Details (RL read field instructions carefully):
This is the sister ride to the Ride of Silence leaving from Bellport. We should be able to meet up with the Bellport ride in Sayville (the mid point). Black armbands will be provided. Please wear a contrasting color.
The early posting of this special ride is being done because this year we are doing it in coordination with the national Ride of Silence. This ride is a memorial for those who have died while riding their bicycles. The idea of this ride is to raise the consciousness of the non-cycling public to the hazards that cyclists face while sharing the road with motor vehicles. Many of the current members of SBRA do not know that an ex-President of SBRA, Jeff Ferber, was killed by an automobile while on a bicycle ride in Colorado in 2004. A memorial posting for Jeff will soon be available on the RoS site. On this ride there will be only one slow pace maintained by all riders. All traffic laws will be obeyed.
