NOTE:
Under the Ride Level details, the "Type: Road Bike" refers to the ride will be on paved roads (rather then off road trails). Although a Road Bike is suggested for Road Bike Type rides it is not required. Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride. This ride calendar is for club rides, club meetings, club event posts and shop rides only.

ROUTE: We will take off from Riverhead waterfront behind Twin Fork Bicycles and proceed to a course that will take us through Southampton and up to Sag Harbor. We will be crossing over from south to north by way of Shelter Island, including Ram Island. Once in Greenport, lunch will be at the deli or pizzeria near the ferry (like last week). After lunch, we head west back to Riverhead using a similar route as last week.
STOPS: There will be multiple stops along the route and one long break in Greenport at mile 50.
BATHROOMS: Finding bathrooms is always a chore, especially with large groups. I did the best I could in this regard.
You will NEED:
Money for south and north ferries and lunch.
Water
Snacks
Sun Screen
ENERGY
SPEED: I am posting the ride as a slow B/B+ but if the wind is an issue the average may be in the fast B area. Cruising speed, depending on wind speed and direction will be around 16-17 mph. Naturally, tailwind and downhills will increase the top number.
MODIFIED PACELINE: It doesn’t make a difference how long you pull. A short pull also helps the group. Let’s make the exchange at 5 miles or LESS. Wheel behind a wheel, and don't cover a wheel.
EVERYONE IS EXPECTED TO MONITOR THEIR OWN SPEED AND THE LOCATION OF THOSE BEHIND THEM TO AVOID HAVING LARGE SPACES BETWEEN RIDERS.
If you can, please download the route onto your Garmin, iPhone, etc.
FINALLY: Based on feedback I've been getting, there may be a lot of riders this week, so the ride may be split. If there needs to be two groups, Tim Mayr will lead the other group.
Park in the lot closest to Montauk Highway. This is a metric century training ride but anyone is welcome. We will be doing two loops-one north to Manorville with a stop at McD's then one south with a stop at the Beach Bakery. Check back for any changes which would be posted by 6am.
Sayville to Bellport (this time we go up North and without the brakes rubbing). This will be a B/B+ paceline coming in at the low end of the B/B+ classification
Quick stop at Deli or coffee shop in Bellport before we make our way home
No, not the decade, but the mileage and the time! We'll be doing eighty miles at eight-thirty. So, Thunderbirds, set the alarm earlier and pack the large water bottles, snacks, gels and two tubes; it's going to be a long ride.
Chances are that I'll be dancing / riding with myself; but if you're looking to do an even B+ pace and some distance - the ride is on!
No surges on this ride, we need a smooth pace to keep everyone together.
The route will include William Floyd P'way, Briermere Farms, part of the North Fork, a run to Hampton Bays and Westhampton, before we head west to the finish.
I changed this ride up a little bit to add afew more miles. Our main deli stop will be in Babylon village. Restrooms are open at the docks and in the deli. Any cancellations or changes will be made by 6A.M. Saturday.
We will be leaving East Islip BOA and head to the Great River area. Then we will make our way to the Babylon Dock area. Then off to Islip Beach before returning to the bank. Our break will be in Babylon or East Islip, the group will decide.
This is a B- ride with an average speed around 15 mph, road speeds may reach 16-19mph. Check the ride calender for any changes posted by 7:00am day of ride.
Minor Change: Just in case your parking is away from Atlantic Blvd ! We will wait at the bike statue located near the park bathrooms and the beginning of the Jones Beach Bikeway until 9:15. Also, dress appropriately as it will be in the upper 50's to mid 60's with breeze from the water at 8 mph.
CHECK BACK to this posting after 6 AM Saturday for any changes!
We'll beat the traffic but have to get there early to get parking. Parking at Cedar Creek Park is for Nassau residents only but parking is available around the park. Here's the route AND a good parking area: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/30043559. Zoom into the map to see where I will be parking.
We will probably do up to 15 miles as we can ride along the bike path until we find a good location (food & restrooms ;-). The air show starts at 10 so we should have plenty of time to scout out a good location. Bring SUNBLOCK!, food and a blanket if you can manage it as the stone gets a bit hard for a six hour air show. Here's a link to Newsday's show info: http://longisland.news12.com/story/40503363/guide-2019-bethpage-air-show-at-jones-beach .
This ride is open to ALL levels of SBRA riders. I may be leaving the beach at about 2 depending on weather and show factors.
It's off to Manorville. The average pace for the ride will be between 14.6 to 15.0 mph +/- depending on the roads, wind direction, rider ability or other conditions. Naturally, the road speed will be higher (15 -16.5 mph.) to produce the average. A rest/ food stop at McDonald’s or the bagel shop is on the schedule around mile 12. There are a few places along the route where leg stretches can be done for those who wish to do so. There is no obligation for anyone to do this; you can hang back with me.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 7:30am, if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call or text me anytime if you have questions about the ride
Join me for this C+/B- ridefrom Bellport to ???. Our destination will be determined by the winds, so it may be Smith Point, or it may be Bohemia (Cookie's Deli). Wherever we go, we will take a break and there will be a bathroom available.
As mentioned above, this is a C+/B- ride, which will average 13.0 - 13.6.
RIDE 17-22 MILES AT A 10.6-11.5 PACE AROUND cALVERTON. Newbies alwasy welcome and well taken care of. Any cancellation by 8:30am. Nobody left behind. As always route depend on wind, position of moon, tide and ride leaders disposition.
Join me for a casual ride to see a portion of the Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach. Please note, if you are planning to see the entire show, please join Norms ride at 9am. Air Show is scheduled from 10am-3pm.
I'm expecting to arrive at the Air Show around 1:15pm. Ride starts at 11:30am from North Massapequa. We'll ride along the Massapequa Preserve using the bike path and then take some backroads to get to Cedar Creek Park. From there we'll take the bike path to Jones Beach and then do the additional loop to Tobay Beach. I'm planning to leave Jones Beach immediately after the Thunderbirds complete their routine (usually between 2:30-2:45) to avoid large crowds on the bike path after the show.
You can purchase food and drinks at the Air Show. However, if you would like to bring your own, you may want to consider taking a backpack with you. A small towel might be a good idea too (to sit on).
If anyone has any questions, please call. My number is posted below.
