Although a Road Bike is suggested for Road Bike Type rides it is not required. Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride. Join me for this C ride around parts of Stony Brook and St. James. The ride will average 11.5 - 11.9 and we will stop for a break at St. James Bagels (food and bathroom available).
NOTE: Ride has been changed to a C pace (for those who need to go a little slower).
The Quogue Preserve has built a scenic boardwalk, 6/10ths of a mile long, accross from the preserve. You can skip the walk and hang out at the preserve for 15 minutes, while the rest of the group takes the walk. If you want to do this short walk, and your bike shoes are uncomfortable to walk in, bring tongs or sneakers. Bring a bike lock, if you don't have one, I have some in my car. The bike ride itself is 30 miles, with a bathroom stop at mile 9, other bathrooms at Quogue Preserve and in Westhampton Beach. Snacks at Hampton Coffee, Goldberg's Bagels, or Westhampton Bakery, whichever appears to have the fewest bees. For information, contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 07:45am.
There will be some hills Easy C+ ride rest stop at Westhampton Bakery questions please call cell phone before 7pm or after 7am, no one left behind. Cell phone # 631-484-1650.
Parking note: Parking may be tight at the Stony Brook RR lot now. If there isn't a spot, you can park in back of Sterling National Bank, just past the Quaker Path traffic light, and meet us in the RR parking lot.
Sunset is at 6:45pm, so bring lights if you have them and wear brighter clothing.
