Since the weather forecast for tomorrow (as of 3:30 PM on Saturday) is: "Wind chill values between 30 and 40 early. This is it “The Hampton Maid Ride”. What does that mean? Pancakes, bacon, eggs, omelets, waffles and coffee, and maybe chocolate milk, but no jelly donut. *** RIDE POSTPONED UNTIL SUNDAY 11/2/14 ***
=================================
Sorry everyone, but the rain and wind would make for a miserable cold ride, today.
It's time to resurrect the alien ride for another season. So, we'll leave the Manorville King Kullen for a ride back out to the Alien Highway a/k/a Route 51. We will do the traditional regroups at the former Hess station and at the traffic light after the Hill.
So, dust-off the winter bike, warm-up the oscillation overthruster, engage the warp drive, say hello to Ripley and let's ride.
First ride of new season for me, so this ride could be slower than usual. We could also be going west, east, north or south but eventually back to our starting point. Not sure if we will go to Bellport or Babylon ,Riverhead or New York City. I will try for either Bellport or Babylon . Going to cancel tonight so people can make other plans.
SORRY-A BIT TOO WINDY, CHILLY AND WET LEAVES ON ROAD. RIDE IS CANCELLED.
We will ride out to or towards the Refuge but make a stop at the Beach Bakery. Likely slower pace due to wind. Check back here (by 7:30 am) in case roads are not dry yet in the morning. The ride will be delayed if that is the case. Start accruing miles for the next SBRA mileage year! Cell phone 516-330-1542.
LIE exit 70, go South about 1/2 mile to King Kullen/7-11/McDonald's parking lot and park facing McDonald's and 7-11. We will make a deli stop just prior to Wildwood State Park. Wildwood has a picnic area and bathrooms, and is about midway on our ride. Average speed will be between 13-14mph, depending on wind and rider ability. Check website by 8:30 am for any changes. For information contact Bill Gravitz at 631-356-3036.
SORRY I MEANT TO POST FOR TUESDAY. Come join JAYBONE and I as we start off the new SBRA season with a quick 15 mile ride. No one left behind. Lights are required on this ride. Hope to see you there. Any cancellations will be posted by 1:00.
How about a ride to Ronkonkoma today? The average pace for the ride will be between 14.8 to 15.0 mph and the extra tad if the wind works in our favor. The road speed will be between 15 and 17 mph, stopping around mile 17 for our morning coffee at the Ronkonkoma Lounge. As usual there will be a spot or two where one can stretch the legs if desired.
My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions about this ride or need directions to the start. Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00AM if necessary.
A gas pipeline is being built and the construction is blocking off our normal route. We can choose some alternate routes to Bean and Bagel, or go out to the beach bakery in westhampton. Mileage will be between 20 and 27. LIE exit 70, go South about 1/2 mile to KK/7-11/McDonald's parking lot. Park nearest to McDonald's and 7/11. Average speed will be between 13-14mph, depending on rider ability and wind speed. Bagel stop is about midway thru the ride. Check website for any changes, which would be posted by 8:30am. For info call Bill Gravitz at 631-356-3036. Note: new sign in sheet asks for your SBRA #, which is available on the SBRA website under the MY ACCOUNTS found in the left hand side column.
THE NEW RIDE SEASON OFFICIALLY STARTED ON SAT. NOV. 1, SO LET'S GET ROLLING! 64° w/8MPH winds and Low tide predicted for the day! Looks like you might get sick at (of) work and have to take the afternoon off. Park on south side of RR at west end of lot. As always NEWBIES always welcome. Average pace should be 11-12.5MPH (depending on groups ability). Any cancellation will be by 2PM. Wheels rolling at 3PM SHARP!
**UPDATE – 11/06/2014 – 7:20 AM. Oh well, it looks like the ride for the morning is going to be washed out. See you Saturday; Think jelly donuts, hot soup, and coffee.**
I thought we would change it up this week go to Middle Island. The average pace for the ride will be between 14.8 and 15.0 mph depending on the wind direction and other factors. Road speed will be between 15 & 17mph. There are a few places along the route where one can stretch the legs if needed.
Around mile 12 we’re going to stop at the senior citizen discount bagel shop or the full price deli; your choice. Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00AM if necessary. Make your voice be heard.

Today's ride will be the high end of B. Out to Manorville and return.
SBRA guidelines state that the maximum cruising speed is 17-19mph. This is a flat ride with very few traffic lights. The average for the entire ride should be 16.5, but could be higher or lower by 1mph if there is a headwind or tailwind.
Leave the Manorville King Kullen for another alien encounter. Hopefully, Area 51 will welcome us with light winds. There will be no formal stop, but plan on a couple of regroups, including one at the former Hess station and one at the traffic light after The Hill.
The jelly donut still calls, maybe with some hot soup. Let’s take a scenic ride through Eastport, Remsenburg and Westhampton Beach. The average pace will be between 14.8 and 15.0 mph. depending on the wind and other factors it could be a tad higher. Road speed will be between 15 & 17 mph. Naturally there will be the usual leg stretches. Around mile 22 we’ll stop at the Beach Bakery for some goodies and a bathroom break before heading back to the start.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00AM if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions about this ride or need directions to the start.
Almost entirely flat route that was well received on the Halloween ride (nice fall scenery). Likely on the lower end of the B range, weather and legs permitting.
Riding to Moriches, destination McDonalds around mile 15 for a brief rest/food break. Pace will be the higher end of the B pace. The wind at our backs will give us a higher average during the ride but the headwind will bring the average to where it needs to be for a B. We will all stay together. Check for any changes in ride start time or cancellation due to weather conditions the morning of the ride.
Note: I am cancelling Thursday's ride and rescheduling it for Saturday. Take LIE exit 70 South, about 1/2 mile to King Kullen/McDonald's/7-11 lot. Park facing McD. and 7-11. We will ride to Westhampton Beach, travel a short distance East on Dune Road, and if the Quogue(Post Lane Bridge) is still closed, head up to Quogue Preserve. On the return we will stop at the Beach Bakery for soup, baked goods or lunch, and than head back to Manorville. Bathrooms are available in Westhampton, and also at the preserve if we go there. Speed will average about 13-14mph depending on rider ability and wind. For info. call Bill Gravitz at 631-356-3036. From the bakery it is about 12 miles back to Manorville.
Any changes will be on the website by 08:45am.
Leave from King Kullen in Eastport for a ride out to the Refuge with a stop at the Beach Bakery. Looks like a sunny but chilly day. Mileage may be slightly higher than 20. Cell phone 516-330-1542. Please look up your SBRA ID # by signing in on the website and clicking on "My account" on the left menu listing. You will find your SBRA # there for the sign in sheet.

SBRA Guide Lines state that a B/B+ ride may have a cruising speed of 18-20mph. This ride is relatively flat with very few traffic lights and miles of open roads with no stops. It is rather easy to maintain this cruising speed especially if there is a tailwind. There is a probability that the ride may come in slightly higher than the normal B/B+ ride average of 17mph recommended by the club. There are no wait-ups since my policy is no one ever gets left behind. I will always be with you. Come out and challenge yourself, learn to ride slightly faster and how to ride safely in a pace line. Ride with the confidence that no matter what happens, it is perfectly acceptable to back your pace down slightly and still have people riding with you.
Todays ride will go out to the Manorville McD’s where a break is taken.
I will post any changes in the ride by 6:30am the morning of the ride. Please check the ride status before starting out from home. There are circumstances I have at home that may cause me to cancel a ride even if the weather is perfect.
My Cell Number is 516-672-1564
Special Note to the Clubs Elite Riders (“Elite meaning those that ride 22+ mph hour)
I would like for all of you to continue riding with me this new season. These past few months I have enjoyed offering rides where you can all meet and cycle together. You are all excellent, safe riders that have taught myself and many others how to improve their skills and challenge themselves. You have always respected my requests to “Keep it 20 or under” and you know there are sections where I give you free rein. I am especially grateful how you always team together and pull my entire ride when conditions are bad and sometimes downright miserable. I must strictly adhere to SBRA guidelines, but I pledge to you I will continue to try to provide enjoyable rides for the “Fastest of the Fast”. I have heard enough parking lot chatter to understand that more attention must be paid to a large percentage of members that ride hard.
We are going to do 50 mile ride it will include the sister hills ......we will wait at top of all climbs ......will have stops if needed and no real stop in mind except early in at mcdonalds http://www.strava.com/routes/1133974

Check for any weather/start time updates the morning of the ride.
How about taking a ride to Great River today? We will go the usual route through Connetquot Park and then do a loop in Heckscher Park where one can stretch the legs a bit. The route is mostly flat with 2 little hills; maybe 3. The average pace for this ride will be between 14.8. & 15.0 mph, depending on the wind and other factors we could be a tad higher. The road speed will be 15-17 mph to produce the average. We will be making a deli/rest stop somewhere between miles 18 and 20. After the ride maybe Guinta's will have steak on sale.

The current forecasts (two sources) show that there is 65-95% chance of rain and/or light snow for 6-8 hours late tonight/early tomorrow morning. I will endeavor to arrive at the trail head at 8 AM ... if the ride is not cancelled there will be no change on this posting. If you want an immediate update around 8 AM ... just send an email to me before tomorrow 7 AM and I will include you in an email blast.
I don't have my studded tires mounted yet and I'm sure I wouldn't need them regardless ...

My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions about this ride or need directions to the start. Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00AM if necessary
Off to Manorville we go. Easy high B average for the ride. Rest stop in Manorville to warm up and take a rest. Check for any changes the morning of the ride.
Sunshine to Smith Point and back ...easy ride ...will stop at 7/11 just before the beach if anyone wants to....my cell # is 631-882-4366 if you have any questions about the ride
SBRA Guide Lines state that a B ride may have a cruising speed of 17-19mph. This ride is relatively flat with very few traffic lights and miles of open roads with no stops. It is rather easy to maintain this cruising speed especially if there is a tailwind. There is a probability that the ride may come in slightly higher than the normal B ride average of 16mph recommended by the club. There are no wait-ups since my policy is no one ever gets left behind. I will always be with you.
Todays ride will go out to the Manorville McD’s where a break is taken.
I will post any changes in the ride by 6:30am the morning of the ride. Please check the ride status before starting out from home. There are circumstances I have at home that may cause me to cancel a ride even if the weather is perfect.
Let's head west first since the wind looks pretty bad. Then we can head back with a tail wind. I Hope!!!
******. I lowered the mileage to 31

1st time at GR this year and the temp will be 25F (wind chill in the teens). Watch this posting as the ride time may also change until the temperature warms up ;-). If you ride dress appropriately... multiple layers will be necessary. I plan to do the CR83 loops then head over to the Dark Side of the Moon (who knows what lies on this trail ... something NEW!!) and finish with White Ghost. The cool temperatures may limit the distance.
Be prepared ... the CLIMB map is here: http://www.climbonline.org/pdf/glacier_ridge_west-east_8x11_05-01-08.pdf
CHECK BACK TO THIS POSTING FOR CHANGES.

We'll hang around the north shore for this ride. The ride is a mixture of flats and short hills. The forecast is for a balmy 45F-50F. Some pace line riding may take place on the flat sections but only if all riders are comfortable with pace lines ... please show up and let me know if it's not your thing (privately if you want) ... if you let me know then this Ride Leader will not lead a paceline on this ride. NOTE this is a B ride as the distance of the short hills will effect the average more then the longer flat sections.
Also, regardless of the automatic note inserted below ... it's not necessary to show up 20 minutes before my ride start which will be promptly at 9.

Lets get out there and get a workout in before the big Meal! Ride will go to Bellport but if the weather is not on our side we can cut the ride short and go to Patchogue. Bring something lite to snack, stop will be brief. Average will be mid to high B average.
Leave the Manorville King Kullen for a spin around the Pine Barrens and Manorville, in search of the elusive Manorviile turkeys. This will be a friendly non-competitive ride, so that everyone will have energy for the rest of the day. There won't be a formal stop on this ride.

Refreshments / Coffee stop at Jamesport Duffys Deli, brief stop/reassembly as needed at IPBP and other key locations. [/][/b]
Looking for a good base level A (but up to A+, AA at times possible with wait-ups as needed) pace. No one is getting dropped.
In general I want to see this smooth super efficient team effort to optimize time!!! Smooth but fast in general. Little playing allowed at the few dedicated hilly sections (you will find out). Reassembly after that -- always, no worries.
** Come for a training ride -- "as fast as you are working with me" **
I classified it back down to A all-over -- but we will go some sections at A+..AA pace for sure (if you go and work with me) -- A and good B+ riders are always welcome, may form a trailing group, if any? -- learn how to work as a team!! -- we will have some wait ups (on top of the 1st lil hill if needed) but we will not wait on every turn -- as I also classified it as TEAM, what means exactly this -- stay all together as much as possible and help each other for most efficiency and best pace w/o dropping any one -- regardless, unless on riders request or extreme mismatch.... -- you better be able sit in easy at 19..21mph and try to handle a few faster sections (slow down afterwards for reassembly) -- have fun!
Rocky Point 2 Iron Peer Beach Park for quick snack watching the sound and reassembly, Coffee/Refreshments now in Jamesport Duffys Deli. Watch for weather related updates or delays -- will post any change or cancellations by very latest start time -1 hour at the day of ride, if unsure, contact me. Let's Go Flying. Starts promptly as indicated on top at Tildas Bake Shop, typical moving time 2h45..3h depending on you. Starts out with some rollers on North Country Rd to warm up, will go fast, but will do the best to reassemble group after 1st climb(s) and as needed, group stays together as a Team AND SHARES THE WIND if any and has fun like few flying birds! Read here for past ride logs, stories, photos and details: http://pyzahl.blogspot.com/search?q=RP2IPBP
However, this is a team style training ride, lean and execute team play, work together not to show off -- with exception of a few designated sections to play... with following regrouping.
It’s off to Manorville, hopefully the wind will be in our favor today or we can change the route slightly on the return. The average pace for the ride will be between 14.8 to 15.0 mph; perhaps a tad higher or lower depending on the wind direction and other conditions. Naturally, the road speed will be higher (15 -17 mph.) to produce the average. A rest/ food stop at McDonald’s or the bagel shop is on the schedule around mile 12. I will keep a group together, as no one likes to ride alone!
Ride out to Manorville at a B Pace . It will be a mid to high B depending on which way the wind blows. Faster in the tail wind slower in the headwind. Average at the end should be around 16 mph. This time of year the weather is always an issue so please check the morning of the ride for any changes.
