I have made a little change to where we are going. Bobby and his wife Christine are going on a cross country trip and I want to do a companion ride so we meet up with his ride at points along the route and after the ride so we can tail gate and wish him and Christine farewell. I am posting it as a B since there are parts of the ride that need to slow down and we will do a couple of loops at Hecksher. We will stop at Bobbys favorite Bagel shop and then head back so we can meet them after the ride. Feel free to bring something to snack on or drink since this is a very social bunch!
Easy B/B+ to Moriches from Holbrook Country Club..check for any changes the morning of the ride.
We will be leaving Bank of American in East Islip heading to Great River and East Islip area. Then we will head to Bohemia and stopping at McDonalds around mile 23 for our break. Any questions call Mike at 516 448-8545
Please Note: This is a B ride with an average speed of 15.5 -16 mph, road speeds may reach 17-20mph. Check the ride calender for any changes posted by 7:00am day of ride.
We'll leave out of Old Veteran's Memorial Park and head towards Handy Pantry in Shirley for a quick water break (mile 16). Sprint down William Floyd to Victory. Regroup in the parking lot on the corner of Victory and William Floyd. We'll make a quick right onto River Road and make a right onto Flower Hill Dr over William Floyd.
Later we'll turn right off of Chapman Blvd onto Hot Water St and make a left onto Halsey Manor.
Cruising speeds outside of winds and hills will be between 18-21mph.
Today's’ route to Great River will change up a bit towards the end of the ride, if the wind is in our favor; making this route pretty flat except for 2 overpasses. We will go the usual route heading south using the Connetquot Park bike bath. We’ll work our way down to Heckscher Park, do a loop where one can stretch the legs a bit if desired. The average pace for this ride will be between 14.5 & 15.0 +/- mph, or what conditions allow. The road speed will be between 15 and 17.0 mph, or slower if needed for safety concerns.
Please DO NOT PARK in the Meat Farms parking lot. Use the west side of the bank if the east side is full. Thanks!
We’ll be making a rest stop around mile 19 at the deli/bakery. The route back will be determined by the wind direction. Good Stuff after the Ride. Not sure what good stuff; it's always a surprise.
Any cancellations due to unforeseeable circumstances, or weather related problems will be posted by 7:30am. If you have any questions about this ride, or the start location, please call or text my cell, 631-484-3490.
Let's avoid most holiday traffic by doing loops on the Grumman trail, and loops North and South of the trail. Break at Bean and Bagel. Porta-Potties available where we park. Basically everything about this ride has changed with the exception of the start location! I've pushed the start time to 9:30 AM, decreased the mileage as well as the pace.
I got on my bike and found all is good...so...we'll head East doing our normal route through Sayville, I'll add some nice loops in order to get a total of 30 miles. Bring water, snacks and money for our stop...which might be a deli along the way. Air up your tires and let's have a safe and fun morning ride.

We'll ride to Short and Long beaches. There will be wait ups and places to stretch your legs. Bring a snack for the beach breaks and I assume the bathrooms will be open at the beaches.
Please note that this is classified as a C+/B- due to a good deal of hills. We should come in around 13.4 - 13.7. Pretty views too, so I think the hills are worth it! Short mileage but you'll get a good workout and have plenty of time to enjoy the rest of your Labor Day.
Check back by 8am on day of ride for any weather changes or cancellations.
We are doing a low B- average, about 15 on the flats and whatever we can manage on the hills. On hills, it's each cyclist for himself, no need to "keep up" with the leader. We meet up at the end of our climbs and take a breather/drink as necessary.
B- to the lighthouse in Oldfield and West Meadow Beach. Rest stop/ bathroom break at the beach
Get your hill practice served many different ways by the hills of the Three Villages. Our break is at West Meadow Beach; bring your own snack. Bathroom stop at the beach. Ride around the Great River and Islip area with a loop in Heckscher Park and a short rest stop at Islip Beach. Cancellation for any reason will be posted by 2PM.
Tom is away, so I am posting this ride for Darlene and others who usually do this Tuesday evening ride.
We are riding from SAYVILLE over toward Patchogue, for around 17-20 miles. The ride average will be 11 - 11.5 and you should wear bright gear and have lights.
Park on South side of RR in lot across the street.
We head out promptly at 6 PM so we don't run out of daylight!
This is a training ride for people looking to gain some experience riding in a paceline. There will be a chalk talk at 5:45. Ride leaves at 6. This is much more about technique and practicing form than getting in a workout. Run by Shannon and some East End Team members.
They say the "third time is a charm" so we are doing this ride again!
This will be a C+ ride from Sayville, that will include parts of Sayville, Bayport, Blue Point and Patchogue. We will have a bathroom stop at Corey Beach and then take our break at a deli in Patchogue (early breakfast special available) and then loop back around Sayville to the ride start.
This is a structured ride which will average 12.5 - 13.0.
NOTE: Park on the South Side of the train station.
There is a new boardwalk across the road from the preserve that has three different lovely paths. Total walk time is about 15 minutes, so bring a a pair of light sneakers or tongs, so you don't have to be uncomfortable in your bike shoes. If you have a bike lock, bring it, otherwise, I have 3 locks to share. There will be a bathroom stop at mile 9, another at the preserve, and a snack stop at the Westhampton Bakery. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 07:15am. Strong winds could slow our pace, and possibly reduce our mileage.
Join me on a leisurely ride starting in Yaphank through Brookhaven hamlet, Bellport (with a rest/snack stop at the village dock), and East Patchogue befre returning to the ride start. Leader will maintain a 12-14 mph cruising speed. No one will be dropped. Call me at 631 846-7825 if you have any questions.
This ride is now going from Port Jefferson Station to Poquott, Strong's Neck, Old Field and West Meadow...the tradtitional "Roller Coaster" route in between it all. Note: I have reclassified the pace to B- (14-14.7).
Meet at the eastern end of the parking lot (bagel shop side vs. bank side). There used to be a clothing donation bin near Rt. 347 as a meeting marker but its gone now. So use your judgement when you arrive and I'll find you! I'll be riding from home and will be there @9:15am.

Wed 3:40pm Update: Weather is kicking up here, radar showing strong storms to move through later. Given the "fun" of getting caught out there with some rain and thunder a few weeks ago, I am moving this ride to tomorrow morning. Check back tonight for the revised details as start location, mileage and pace will change.

Sunset is at 7:20pm...so we will be leaving promptly at 5:30pm. Please plan accordingly. Parking note: Parking may be tight at the Stony Brook RR lot now. If there isn't a spot, you can park in back of Sterling National Bank, just past the Quaker Path traffic light, and meet us in the RR parking lot.
Bring lights if you have them and wear brighter clothing.

Join us as we travel scenic backroads thru the Stony Brook-Setauket area: historic places, great views, great sunsets, great folks. We are a diverse group out for an enjoyable ride and fun nite.
The ride classification takes into account the rolling/hill route, often finishing around 13.1-13.7. There are wait ups after climbs and places to stretch your legs ahead... but please note this is not a "race ride". Dinner afterwards for those interested.
Check ride calendar for any changes or cancellations by 4:00pm the day of ride.
We will be leaving Bank of American in East Islip heading to Great River and East Islip area. Please bring your snacks and drinks for this ride. Any questions call Mike at 516 448-8545
This is a B- ride with an average speed of 14.5 to 15mph, road speeds may reach 17-18mph. Check the ride calender for any changes posted by 2:00pm day of ride.
**Please note- Mike Cochran will be leading this ride**
We will head North for 23 mile loop around the Dix Hills area. The day light hours are getting shorter so as result we will be doing shorter routes. I will suggest that everyone have at least a tail light and a head light if possible. Please pack hydration and snacks for quick stops along the route.
This is a B/B+ ride with an average pace between 16 to 17 mph+/-, depending on the road conditions and wind direction. The road speed will be between 17 and 20 mph. Total mileage may vary +/- a few miles depending on daylight and weather conditions.

All members are welcome. New members are encouraged to attend. Light food and refreshments will be served.
Guest Speaker: Jared Caspe graduated with his doctorate in physical therapy from SUNY Stony Brook in 2005. Since then he has developed many successful practices, with a focus on orthopedics, pediatrics, geriatrics, aquatics, and fall prevention. One of his passions is teaching prevention, and he will be speaking to us about the proper stretching and strengthening techniques we can use to prevent cycling related injuries.
Slowing it down a bit ....no tag along this week.......out to the Maples. Then double paceline work.........open it up on 101. Gazzola to finish it off.
The plan is to bike out to Montauk from East Islip BoA and take the LIRR back home. Trains depart Montauk at 3:30pm, 5:26pm and 7:33pm. Train ride back to Great River station takes approximately 2hrs (3 min bike ride from Great River LIRR station back to BoA parking lot).
I suggest riders bring two water bottles, some energy snacks for the ride and extra $$ for rest stops/lunch/train fare). We will make hydration/rest stops approximately every 20-25 miles. Depending on when we arrive in Montauk (and what shape we're in when we get there - lol) we can discuss options (extend ride to lighthouse, sit-down lunch in town, Gosman's Dock, etc.).
Please check this posting again Friday evening for any additional updates.
If you are interested in this ride or have any questions, please let me know by 6pm Fri. FYI - The LIRR has the right to limit the number of bikes they allow on each train so I need to get a rough headcount. Please call or txt my cell (number below). I’ve done this ride several times and never had a problem with LIRR but you never know.
Special note: Riders will need a Bike Permit so you can bring your bike on the train. The permit cost is $5 but it is good for life (unless you lose it) and it can be purchased on the train without a penalty fee. You will also need to purchase a one-way off-peak ticket for ride home (approx $10) and should be purchased prior to boarding. LIRR ticket machine is at the station.
This is not the shop ride. If you are looking for a faster ride please check out the ride at 730. This is a pace line ride in preparation of the up coming TOH and any longer fall ride you might be tuning up for. The cruising pace will be in the 21-22 range. There will be one rest stop at mile 29 (Exxon) and a few wait ups. (top of 51). I will discuss the others at the ride start.
The TOH is hilly and long so better get ready for some hills and mileage. This ride is not a race!
Check the route below, I changed it from last year at a few points.
We moved back the rides to 8:15am due to rain tonight into tomorrow morning. We'll make a final decision by 6:30am tomorrow morning and can move our rides to Sunday if needed. Feel free to call or text with questions.
This is a duo ride with Jim Drago. We'll ride the same route as Jim's group but at a B+/A- pace, so cruising speeds will be between 18-21mph (outside of hills and winds).
Breaks - we'll quickly stop at Exxon (mile 29) and at the top of 51 (at the light around mile 35). Sprint on 111 if you wish but we'll regroup after turning onto Halsey Manor.
Since Tom is still away on his trip, I am posting this ride again at the request of his regulars.
I will take the same route as I did this past week, with dips and turns into new "nooks and crannies" along the route. This C paced ride of 20 miles will average 11.0 to 11.8 mph and, as Tom always says, newbies always welcome and nobody gets left behind. We will circle around Sayville, then meander toward Patchogue, where we will make a bathroom stop at Corey Beach before taking our break at the deli around the corner.
I am cancelling the ride for this weekend, as some roads along the water may flood. I’ll post for next Saturday.
Flat, water views and a half-way stop at Dunkin'. Need I say more?
Questions before ride, my email is (frchtchr@hotmail.com). Day of ride, my cell is 631-835-1454. Cancellation for weather posted by 7:30 morning of ride.
From Port Jeff we'll go to Belle Terre then to Poquott, through Setauket and the Mill Ponds, back via Lower Sheep Pasture. Bring snack and water for a short break along the way, bathroom stop along the route. B- pace (14-14.7). There are a few rolling hills/climbs, but wait ups as needed.
Meet at the eastern end of the parking lot (bagel shop side vs. bank side). There used to be a clothing donation bin near Rt. 347 as a meeting marker but its gone now. So use your judgement when you arrive and I'll find you! I'll be riding from home and will be there @ 9am.
Check back here by 8am day of ride for any updates/weather changes.
Lots of folks avoid East Setauket as it has a good deal of technical and hilly sections BUT there are also milder single track sections that many riders can handle when keeping the speed down. Come along and I will be more than willing to wait if you want to walk any section that you feel is above you pay grade!
Lots of the trail is pretty wide and ticks will not be a problem unless you dive into the bush ... Also, I will have bug spray available before the ride.
For faster and more skilled riders please look at the ride level ... you will be out ahead of the group I lead that will go at the slowest rider's pace. No one will be left behind in the woods!
Check back to this posting early Sunday morning ... as Life Happens and Things Change.
We will ride from Oakdale railroad station south parking lot closest to Montauk Hwy to the Bellport Deli for breakfast and a quick break, we will be averaging around 15mph for the entire ride, which means we will be riding between 14-17 possibly even 18 in order to average 15. Weather is supposed to be nice this Sunday so hopefully the we won't be riding against the wind.
I'm filling in for Bobby. There will be little change in the ride as he has led it in the past, so I copied his description with some minor changes.
DON'T WORRYwe will still have VERYGood Stuff after the Ride. Not sure what good stuff; it's always a surprise.
Any cancellations will be posted by 7:30am. If you have any questions call or text my cell, 631-804-0751.(Bernie's Cell)
Tom is still in Europe, so I am posting this C paced ride for his regulars (and anyone else who wishes to come along). The ride will be approximately 20 miles, at an average between 11.0 and 11.5. We will ride around Ronkonkoma, through Holbrook, and down to Sayville before returning to the start. The exact route may be determined by the wind, etc.
Our break will be at The Gourmet Bagel Shop, where food, beverages, and a bathroom are available. Newbies always welcome and nobody gets left behind. Remember to bring a beverage so you can keep hydrated.
That's 32 miles... For this run, we will leave South St. School for a controlled paceline ride out to Briermere Farms. I'm planning on an easier pace, as I've been off the bike for a few days... Fingers crossed that the hurricane wiil be long gone by the day of the ride!
The route outbound will take us along Route 24 for some paceline work to Riverhead, and then on to Briermere. The return will take us through the farms, hopefully avoiding the headwinds!
I had to change the ride from Friday to Sunday do to the weather. The time will also be 12:00 instead of 5:00. W will also make a deli stop by the docks. The ride start has also changed because the park is still charging until 4pm We will be starting at Abraham Lincoln school on West 15 street Deer Park.
This is my first-go at being a full-on SBRA ride leader. No better place to begin than Mellow Monday. In Brian Toole's words: This will be a "steady 21-ish mph" ride. It is the usual Monday route (see map for details) with a quick stop at our favorite world class gas station. See you there!
Today I am going to change it up a little and, as usual, food is a part of the day (if you wish to participate).
We are going to leave the Timber Point Golf Course and ride through Connetquot and over to Sayville, where we will take a brief break. Then we will return to the golf course in time to have lunch at the cafe at the golf course (if you want to). They have very reasonable "lunch specials" that often are "high end lunch items (sometimes like lobster), depending on what was served at the events over the weekend. That is not "leftover" food, but just surplus items which was prepped for a weekend event. I know the food served there is very good, and the daily lunch specials also include a beer or other beverage. So, if you are up for it, join me and we'll see how this goes.
The ride average will be 13.1 - 13.8, depending on who shows up and, of course, the weather.
PARKING NOTE: As you come up the driveway, park in the first parking lot on the right.
There will be some hills C+ ride with rest stop at Bean & Bagel no one left behind I will take bike path south on the way back Questions call cell phone before 7pm or after 7am 631-484-1650

Roll along the causeways leading to the Ram Islands. Keep in mind there will be short ups and downs throughout the ride. Bring a pocket snack for our stop at Wade’s beach. Ferry fare $ 6.00 round trip includes your bike.
We are doing a low B- average, about 15 on the flats and whatever we can manage on the hills. On hills, it's each cyclist for himself, no need to "keep up" with the leader. We meet up at the end of our climbs and take a breather/drink as necessary.

We'll start out of Grumman... around mile 4 we're making a left onto Whiskey. If traffic is heavy, we can ride up to the light, regroup and then cross William Floyd together when safe instead of cutting across.
Mile 28 - we'll take a really quick water stop at 7/11 in Riverhead. I don't want to be here long.
Mile 31 - up CR 51 to 111. Sprint on 111 if you'd like but we'll regroup at the Halsey Manor light (don't turn onto Halsey Manor - we're heading to Chapman). We'll make the left onto Chapman together. If too busy to cross, we'll go to the light, then wait by the italian restaurant lot and cross together with the light.
Mile 44 - Nettie's for food, drink and bathroom.
Feel free to sprint going either way through Grumman too.
I am going to cancel my ride and go with Bernnie on his ride from Southaven park off of Victory..Hope to see you there!
Usual ride out to Manorville with a break at McDonalds. Steady B/B+ pace everyone stays together. Please check back the moring of the ride for any changes to the post.
BThis 42 mile route will be a test run for the SRA Cares ride on 10/6. There are numerous potential variations of the route from less than 32 miles to over 50. Anyone who wishes to use one of my routes are welcome to it, just email or text me.
On this route, we will go from Southaven Park out to the Beach Bakery and back. Please note it is posted as a B/B+ modified paceline ride. Please read Mike Cole's article in the September issue of Rolling Wheels on Paceline Etiquette. (Yeah, it's a cheap plug to get more readers, but it's a good article nonetheless.)
Leaving Oakdale RR we will be heading to Bellport. Our food stop will be at the Bellport Deli. Depending on the weather & route this ride may be a few miles more or less than posted.

This is a hilly training ride of the iconic Bear Mountain. IT IS NOT A RACE!! The route follows the same as to the GFNY but with a start/finish at the Rockland Lake State Park. It starts with a 4 mile warm up at 18/20mph then a couple of hills similar to the Wednesday ride. Bear Mountain starts at mile 19. It's 1250 ft of climbing and 4.5 miles long. Regroup and rest stop at the top. After the descent there is a 20 mile strech of rolling hills. One of them of about 510ft ( Check out the route for details on all 8 climbs). There will be another rest stop at mile 42. ( Regroups in between is needed).Last 20 miles is more descent fewer/smaller hills and cool down to get back to the park.

COME ON THIS 18-22 MILE RIDE AT A 10.6-11.6 PACE. Newbies always welcome and well taken care of. Bring water and a snack if we do not stop as direction depends on the wind direction, tide, position of moon and leaders disposition. Nobody gets left behind. Any cancellation will be by 8:30am.
Ride this cycling gem counterclockwise on lightly traveled perimeter roads exploring the coves and inlets. There are great waterside views and scenic vistas throughout this hilly route. Roll along the causeways leading to the Ram Islands. Keep in mind there will be short ups and downs throughout the ride. Bring a pocket snack for our stop at Wade’s beach. Ferry fare $ 6.00 round trip includes your bike. Optional post ride meal at Crabby Jerry’s on the Greenport wharf.
This is a resurrected route to Bellport Dock to view the bay. It is mostly flat with a few rollers, especially down Mill road (some new pavement-yay). We will take a short rest stop at the dock. Please bring snacks and water. There won't be a deli or lunch stop. There are bathrooms at the dock. With a strong south wind i may need volunteers to help pull! Crusing speed will vary depending on conditions but expect faster with tailwinds and slower into headwinds!
Check back for any changes/cancellations by 8 am Saturday.
I'm filling in for Bobby. There will be little change in the ride as he has led it in the past, so I copied his description with some minor changes.
DON'T WORRYwe will still have VERYGood Stuff after the Ride. Not sure what good stuff; it's always a surprise.
Any cancellations will be posted by 7:30am. If you have any questions call or text my cell, 631-804-0751.(Bernie's Cell)
In Brian Toole's words: This will be a "steady 21-ish mph" ride. We will keep it mellow and ride all together, except for three sections that you can choose to stay mellow or be more "ish". Those sections are:
1) Mill Road (we will stop at gas station at the end of Mill)
2) 51 hill (wait up at light)
3) 111 (wait up at Halsey Manor turn)
Then mellow home. Map is linked below. Hope to see you there!
There will be some hills C+ ride with rest stop at Westhampton Bakery no one left behind Questions call cell phone before 7pm or after 7am 631-484-1650
