The road speed will be 15.5/16.0 except when the wind is at your back or going downhill. The average - let's try to keep it in the B minus area. The distance will be 30/32. Some of us still have cold legs so we won't go crazy. For those who have hot legs there will be a break-a-way for you. The stop will be McDonalds in Manorville. If it's crowed with another ride group, go in, get your stuff, do your business. Then go across the street, or down the alley, or around the corner. Don't hang out with them. So let's meet at the South Street School at 9:00 AM for a flat to lightly rolling route to Hampton Bays, where we'll have a short stop at roughly half the distance. The plan is to keep everyone together and work together as a team, so no one gets dropped! Also, short of buying water, etc. or hitting the bathroom, we'll stay outside to minimize our exposure to the Virus. (Remember to bring a mask, for when you are indoors at the stop).
Now for the yada yada, in addition to SBRA's:
This is a paceline ride, so be comfortable when riding in a group.
You should be able to ride in a straight line - no weaving around.
You should be able to pedal continuously -> no pedal-pedal-coooast, pedal-pedal-coooast! Also, there aren't many traffic lights, so get ready for long periods of pedaling!

Depending on the wind and direction we should average 14.5 - 15. Of course in order to obtain this average at times our road speed could be 15-17 mph. No one will get dropped. Please check ride calendar at 7:30am day of ride for go or no go incase of issues which would prevent me from riding or bad weather.
Park in the south part of the lot. Easy ride to the Quogue Wildlife Refuge for our break (bring a snack) and bathroom. Optional pizza after the ride. Text me if you are coming.

The start is just off of route 25 in Jamesport, if driving East take the turn just after the Valero gas station. No bathrooms at the start but we will stop ar Veterans Park (mile 6).
There is a wonderful view from the end of Nassau point but if you don't like big rolling hills you can always wait at the beach. The speed will be in the B- range, trying to keep within the 15 - 17 cruising speed, slower on the uphills, faster down. We will. of course, wait for everyone after the hill. If it is very windy and/or I am tired I would appreciate help with the pulling, (completly optional). The main stop will be at Scoops and Grinds at mile 17, where there is good coffee, baked goods etc (maybe ice cream). We will also check out the ice cream shop in Mattituck (mile 33) just in case you want ice cream.
This is a scenic ride with a number of viewing stops. We head out along Peconic Bay for some water views, and a porta-potty stop about mile 8. Heading out further East for more water views with Robbin's Island in the distance. Riding out to Cutchogue, we go North to the Long Island Sound, passing soon to be planted fields. Heading East, we pass more fields and vineyards. Back to Cutchogue with a food stop at Scoops and Grinds, which has baked goods, ice cream and great sandwhichesl and soups, as well as restrooms. There is outdoor seating at Scoops and Grinds There will be one porta-potty stop on the way back. but if we are lucky the real rest rooms might be open for the season. To join, text Bill G. at 631-356-3036 with your SBRA, Emergency and cell numbers, date of ride, and your full name. This is a long ride, so prepare your schedule accordingly. It is important that you check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 07:30am. Strong winds or rain would change the posting. Bring plenty of water and snacks.
Join me for this car free scenic D ride along the new eastern section of the Ocean Parkway Greenway. We will ride from Captree State Park to Tobay Beach (18 mile round trip). A few Notes:
1.Start at Captree State Park, after the toll booth go around the circle to the northern main parking lot, not the overlook lot mentioned in the actual start info. There will be a pavilion of some sort and tons of bike racks at the start of the path. This was suggested by the park office.
2.There will be an $8 parking fee unless you have an empire pass
3.If the forecast becomes unfavorable (windy) Saturday morning, I will cancel and switch to a 15 mile meander from Timber Point Golf Course to Islip Beach, start time also 10:30. Please be sure to check the website before leaving for the ride.
Please bring water, spare tube, and a snack if you wish, to enjoy trailside.
