You DO NOT have to be doing the century to go on any of these rides. Each week the ride will increase by 5 miles or so. It would be helpful for me at this point in the training that we take some turns pulling, just a few; please.
For this Seagull training ride the route will take us up to Shoreham and Calverton via, LI Ave, Granny, Rocky Point Rd, Whiskey, Route 25 and Sound Avenue; you get the idea. Then we’ll work our way back. The average pace for the ride will be between 14.5 to 15.0 mph, depending on the roads, wind direction, and the group. The road speed will be between 15 and 16.5 mph. faster downhill, slower uphill. There are 2 North Shore type hills on this route; what the heck we are on the North shore it can’t all be flat - just think how strong we’ll be. The rest of the route will be flat and rolling.
We’ll make a rest/food stop at McDonalds around mile 23 and then another McDonalds/bagel stop in Manorville around mile 35; no, I don’t have stock in McDonalds. If it’s needed we can make another pee stop around mile 53.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 7:30 AM if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions about this ride or need directions to the start.
