Today's Mi Tierrita ride will be going to the Beach. The route is mostly flat with a small incline here and there. The average pace for the ride will be 15 mph, depending on the roads and wind direction. The road speed will be between 14.0 and 18 mph depending on hills and wind direction. The usual break-a-ways will happen for those who desire. We'll stop along the way for a bathroom break around mile 10. Don’t forget to bring a snack.
Please check ride calendar day incase of cancelations due to rain or extreme high winds. If Winds are a constant 15mph or higher ride may get shortened or cancelled. Any changes will be posted herein no later than 7:15 am on day of ride.
We will follow the same route as Howard except it will be shorter, and slower. We are going to take a break at Wertheim at 10 miles and then head back. I hope to come in with an average between 13 and 14 mph. In order to get this the road speed will be between 14 and 16 mph. Things could change slightly due to the road conditions and the wind. Maybe we will add a mile or 2 depending on many factors.
Help in pulling the ride would be appreciated, but not required.
If you have any questions or concerns please text me at 631.484.3490. Should there be a cancelation or change it will be posted by 7:45am.

This will be the last 2023 Century Training Ridefor The Thunderbird Orient Century !
This week, we taper-off the miles, to recover for the upcoming century!
Sorry folks, but the weekend weather doesn't look good for riding any long distances. I'm trying to get in this final training ride, so I'm forced to run it on Friday - instead of Saturday or Sunday.
The plan is for us to ride in a controlled paceline, riding at a pace to keep the group together. That means not jacking-up the pace when you get to the front of the paceline, and downshifting on rises to keep the pace even to keep the paceline together!
This week's route takes us through Riverhead and out along Peconic Bay Blvd to Mattituck. We'll have a rest/food stop in Mattituck, and then it's the spin back home along the same route. On the way back, we may have a possible last stop to stretch near Riverhead.
We'll have S.A.G. support for this ride, in case we have a flat or someone needs help making it back home!
This will be an easy & flat C ride around Center Moriches, on a modified route to keep out of any winds that may crop up. We will average 11.3 - 11.8, and will be taking our break at Nettie's. There are some very nice water views along the way. No one gets dropped and we will be observing spacing rules, etc. Since the exact route will be determined as we go along, there will not be a cue sheet.
The number of riders is limited, so if you want to ride you must text me with your SBRA Member Number and Emergency Contact phone number. I will respond to your text and let you know if you have a spot on the ride. Once the ride is filled, I will change to post to indicate that.
Riders should arrive at least 15 minutes before the ride start, to allow enough time for me to get everyone signed in and to "get yourself" ready.
Come join us for a 35 mile ride with a stop for some of Nettie's wonderful treats. The ride incorporates a number of fun short rolling hills.
The forecast for Friday looks good, though a bit on the warm side, so be sure to bring plenty of hydration. Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore and discover.
if you have questions, please text Bill Mastro at 917-921-5358. I also appreciate if you text me to let me know you are joining the ride. Generally, I forward the final ridewithps file to those who let me know they are attending. Any updates or weather issues will be posted to the ride listing by 7:30 on the day of the ride.
If you are interested in this ride, please call or txt me by 9pm Friday (347-922-3824).
Plan is to take the 9:17am train from Patchogue to Montauk (arrival at 10:55am) and ride back to the Blue Point Brewery. This is a special train configured to hold more bikes than the usual LIRR trains. Current forecast shows rain ending in Montauk at 8am so this allows approx 3 hrs for roads to dry before we hit the road. This shouldn't be a problem with a projected 14-15 mph NE tailwind!! Rest stops approx every 25 miles or as needed. Pack sufficent hydration, food, $$/cc, cell phone, etc.
Pls park between the Blue Point Brewery and YMCA. We will leave the parking lot no later than 9am as we need to ride a short distance to the train station and purchase tickets. Pls note bicycle permits are no longer required to board LIRR trains.
Join me for this C ride, which will average 11.3- 11.9; no one gets dropped and we will be observing spacing rules, etc. Ride route will be determined by the road conditions; decision to be made the morning of the ride; no cue sheets. We will head to Blue Point and loop around Corey Beach, and our break will be at the Atlantic Ave. Deli; there will be a bathroom stop.
NOTE: I am limiting the number of riders on my rides, so you must text me with your name, SBRA Member Number, and Emergency Contact Phone Number if you want to ride, I will return the text: YES, you have a spot; NO, ride is filled. CELL #: 631-523-2129.
CHANGED TO SUNDAY, due to iffy weather on Saturday
Early start, early finish. Enjoy this scenic ride out to Netties with the rest stop at mile 26. We'll average in the mid lane range of B-, cruisng 15 - 17 mph, the tour of the coast line will slow the pace a bit, but worth it! Any changes will be posted by 6 AM Sunday. Kindly text me if you plan to do this ride. Call or text any questions to 631-455-4251.
HI, Donna Leahy subbing for Howard's usual sunday ride. We will go the usual route heading south using Connetquot Park bike path. We will work our way down to Heckscher Park. Pulling is appreciated. I would like to keep the average road speed between 16 and 19mph and would like to come in just under 16.0 mph. There will be 2 to 3 stretches where riders can go at their own pace.
Please, cyclists coming with E-bikes must stay at the end of the bike line.
We will be leaving the bank heading to Babylon. There will be a quick coffee break at the Docks. This is a B- ride that will average around 14.5 - 15 mph with road speeds that will reach 16 to 19 mph.
If you have any questions call or text Mike at 516 448-8545.
We will follow the same route as Donna except it will be shorter, and slower. We are going to take a break at the bagel shop about half way through the ride. I hope to come in with an average between 13.5 to 14 mph. In order to get this the road speed will be between 14 and 16 mph. Things could change slightly due to the road conditions and the wind. There will be, (hopefully) GOOD STUFF after the ride
Pulling always appreciated
If you have any questions, or concerns please text me at 631.484.3490. Should there be a cancelation or change it will be posted by 7:45am.

If you plan to do my ride then please contact me by texting to 631-988-6557 ... else I may not wait for the posted Ride Start time if I think I'm going to ride alone.
I'm tired of the wind so will be riding in the woods ... this will be a Begineer/Intermediate ride and will go as slow as the slowest rider.
Check back to this posting regardless ... Life Happens and Things Change!
--------------------- original Posting ----------
It will be a SLOW ride up the hills as it's early in the year for 1900+ feet of climbing. I've posted a C but the effort will be a B+ ;-). I hope the finishing pace may be more like a C+ ride but will go as slow as necessary for anyone who shows up to suffer with me.
If I don't hear from anyone, I will leave from home -- so please be sure to text that you're coming. My cell: 631-835-1454.
I am still cruising at 13-15, but I must be pretty heavy on the 14/15, as our average has been 13-13.5. The old route through Stony Brook/Setauket. When we get to the hills, take whatever speed, fast or slow, and we'll meet at the top. Expect an average of 13+. No bathroom break, just a snack stop at the lighthouse. Any changes or cancellation will be posted by 8:00 morning of ride. New hill riders welcome.
Take a tour of some beautiful North Shore scenery. This is a good chance to get a little hill training in. This ride has some long flat sections and some long easy gradual satisfying grades both up and down. There are a couple of steeper climbs but those are short. We'll be slower than C+/B- on some ups and faster down!! There's nothing to worry about because we'll be patient and take appropriate wait ups as we all try to get into shape! This is a great way to get your feet wet on some moderate hills or possibly at the beach. After the ride, reward yourself at Little Vincent's for arguably one of Long Islands's best slices.
Bring $ and snacks. Pizza is cash only. There are no food stops during the ride. There will be quick scenic breaks for snacks with restrooms available.
We will be leaving Bank of America and head to Great River and East Islip for a 22 mile ride. The ride will be at a B- pace with an average speed of around 14.5 to 15 mph and road speeds that will reach 16 to 18 mph.
Changes or cancelation will be posted by 1:300pm day of ride.
An easy paceline ride in the lower B/B+ range, heading out to Briermere Farms. We'll ride out through the fields and onto the North Fork, for a stop at our favorite scone / pie place. This will be a no-drop ride -> everyone stays together and works together like a team!
After the stop, we'll head back through the fields and take Old River back into Manorville. Since we'll probably have some headwinds on the return, pace yourself so you'll have the energy to make it home.
Off to Bean and Bagel, using the Grumman Trail and mostly local roads in Manorville. Bean and Bagel has picnic tables, and restrooms. To join this ride, text Bill G. at 631-356-3036 with your full name and date of ride. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 08:00am.

Cruise the waterfront in Oakdale and Heckshire. One restroom stop. The ride should be back before dark but lights are reccomended in case of unforseen mechanicals or delays.
Off to Briermere's, with a viewing stop at the American Bison farm. hopefully the Bison will be in a field near the road. If we have enough riders interested in sharing the cost of a pie, we can buy a pie. Individual baked goods are available, as are hot and cold drinks. Restrooms and outdoor picnic tables are on site. To join this ride, text Bill G. with your full name and date of ride.

This is the same ride i have been posting as a B and nothing has changed other than we might go into the B/B+ range. To keep it honest i will post as a B/B+. Everyone that has been coming has been respectful of the pace and if we feel we want to ride a B thats what we do. if there is no wind and we all work togehter we may go into the B/B+ range.
Join us for the ... SBRA Century/Metric Century Ride 2023 Saturday, June 10, 2023
The rides will leave from Calverton and go out to Orient and back. There will be Century and Metric Century ride distance options. Check the ride calendar for all available rides posted by the ride leaders.
There will be minimal sag support (may be only 1 vehicle). Bring your own food and drinks as there will be no official rest stops. No registration is required. This is a very casual "let's do a century" for SBRA members.
UPDATE: It looks like we will have favorable weather for the Century, and the air quality is improving! SO, the Century is a go for now, but please check the SBRA Calendar for any changes!
Any questions, or if you want to let us know you'll be riding; please leave a comment to this post!
The slogan for the day: To finish first, first you must finish!
Why settle for nothing less than the full century, the 100 miles, the big ride (Sorry Kevin), the long run! https://youtu.be/884VNMgJxpA
It's Orient Point or bust!
We'll keep an endurance pace throughout this paceline ride. We'll ride out East through Riverhead, Mattituck, Cutchogue - all along Peconic Bay. Then it's along the Sound eventually reaching Orient Beach State Park. On the return we will ride through Greenport, then to Cutchogue, Mattituck and Riverhead and back through Manorville to the finish.
There will be a couple of stops on the way out to Orient Point and on the return, so we can keep everyone together and avoid the dreaded Bonk, or even worse leg cramps! (Remember to hydrate and fuel-up at every stop, so you'll have the energy to finish the ride and not bonk!). We will have a S.A.G. vehicle with us, just in case!
The pace will be a high B/B+ outbound with a tailwind and probably slower on the return, when tired legs meet the headwinds of the North Fork.
We hope to see you on the ride!
Let's Go!
Now, if we could only find some Thunderbird for the post ride celebration!
Orient Point Century ride at a moderate B pace, consistent with the training pace on Joe D's rides for the past month. Thanks to Joe D. for leading all the training rides.
Group will stay together, nobody gets dropped, and we'll have snack breaks on the way out and back, as well as a lunch stop mid-ride.
This is a very scenic ride with about 1,900 ft of climbing. I am planning to make 3 stops along the way (Mattituck, Orient and Cutchogue) for hydration, restrooms and lunch but this may change as "nature" calls. Avg speed should be on the low to mid point of the 17-18 mph range with max cruising speed of 21, but this is always subject to change based on weather conditions.
Please pack proper hydration (at least 2 water bottles), food to eat along the way (Cliff Bars, trail mix, GU packs, etc), some $$ for lunch and a cell phone.
I will try to keep the group together and my intent is not to drop anyone; however, based on past experience, some riders may not be able to finish the full century for various reasons (muscle cramping, heat exhaustion, mechanical issues, etc.). In this case, please have a back-up plan to get yourself home (spouse, friend or Uber).
If anyone has questions, please call or txt me (347-922-3824).
A steady 100 miles out to Orient Point. Depending on the group and wind we may possibly tip into the A range. We will stop briefly at the end of Nassau Point but will stop again to refuel at 7-11 in Greenport. Please bring at least 2 bottles of hydration and some snacks. We also could stop at the Deli in Southold if needed on the return. Leaving at 7:30 am so get there early. Please download and review the route, hope to see you there.
For those who aren't doing a Century or Half-Century ride, join me for this morning ride from SAYVILLE to ?? This will be an easy C ride and will average 11.4 - 11.9.
The exact route will be determined at the start. Wherever we go there will be a bathroom stop & a food break. Since nothing is certain until we start, there will not be a cue sheet for this ride.

No one gets dropped and we will be observing spacing rules, etc. The exact route will be determined the morning of the ride (thus, no cue sheets).

Today's’ route to Great River will change up a bit towards the end of the ride - if the wind is in our favor; making this route pretty flat except for 2 overpasses. We will go the usual route heading south using the Connetquot Park bike bath. We’ll work our way down to Heckscher Park, do a loop where one can stretch the legs a bit if desired. Pulling is appreciated! I would like to keep the road speed between 17 & 18 mph and come in at an average between 15 and 16. Cyclists coming with "E" bikes must stay at the end of the bike line. Good stuff after the ride.
We will follow the same route as Howard except it will be shorter, and slower. We are going to take a break at the bagel shop about half way through the ride. We will be doing a route around Holbrook, perhaps a little of Patchogue, and Medford. Think Woodside Ave, East direction. only I plan on coming in with an average between 13.6 to 14 mph, plus or minus a bit depending on how we all feel. In order to that average the road speed will be between 14 and 16 mph. Things could change slightly due to the road conditions and the wind. We will take water breaks as necessary, no food stops. After the ride if you want we can go to the bagel shop and BS for awhile. Help in pulling the ride would be appreciated, but not required.

First ride back since battling Sciatica.. will take a slow pace to see how I hold up. I posted as a B+ but could come in a tick faster based off Riders and My endurance.
We will be meeting this week at Cathedral Pines Upper Lot.
This will be a weekly friendly group ride serving as an opportunity to meet other women to ride the trails with. No one will be dropped. We will split into groups if necessary.
Feel free to text me if you have any questions or concerns.
Repaving is going on North Country Road which is well needed but we will skip this section for today. Also we will bypass Dam Road which is still under construction, but add 51 and 111. Hope to see you there (8:30 start!).

Today's Mi Tierrita ride will be going to the Beach. The route is mostly flat with a small incline here and there. The average pace for the ride will be between 15 to 16.0 mph, depending on the roads and wind direction. The road speed will be between 17.0 and 18.0 mph. The usual break-a-ways will happen for those who desire. We'll stop along the way for a bathroom break around mile 10. Don’t forget to bring a snack. Do you know what AGUAPANELA is? Come and find out. Pulls are appreciated. Cyclists coming with "E" bikes must stay at the end of the bike line.
We will follow the same route as Howard except it will be shorter, and slower. This time we have added a few extra miles. We will have a short rest stop (10 minutes) at Wertheim on the way back. I hope to come in with an average between 13.7 and 14 mph +/- a few tenths. In order to get this the road speed will be between 14 and 16 mph. Things could change slightly due to the road conditions and the wind. Help in pulling the ride would be appreciated, but not required.
If you have any questions or concerns please text me at 631.484.3490. Should there be a cancelation or change it will be posted by 7:30am.
With the changeable weather, it's sometimes a roll of the dice for what day to run a ride. The tumbin' dice https://youtu.be/AJ1CRKiwdho came up Thursday for a ride out to Briermere Farms. So let's roll out from the parking lot across from the Maples bar for another paceline ride out through Deep Hole to the fields and areas East.
After a break that can't be beat, we'll head back through the fields to River Road / Old River Road and back to the finish.
The pace is going to be in control, to save some energy for the weekend rides!
Concerned about the weather? Make sure that you are looking at the forecast for Riverhead and the North Fork. The Down Island forecasts don'r always apply to the Twin Forks!
Join us as we ride out from Bellport at first utilizing some of the usual roads, but then go for a bit of a Mastic Meander taking the longer way to Osprey Point with lots of turns and some interesting and different views. From there, we head north, pass by the airport, head to River Road before heading back south to Bellport. All and all, a neat 35 miles that has both a bunch of turns along, with some long stretches of riding. Long-term forecast seems decent.
Other than a quick opportunity at Dunkin Donuts, we will not be making a stop to buy food/lunch during the ride, but there will be stops along the way, so please bring any food/snacks you may want or need as well as sufficient hydration. Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore and discover.
If you have questions, please text Bill Mastro at 917-921-5358. FYI, I usually send the final ridewithgps file to those who contact me, so if you can, let me know you are coming. Any updates or weather issues will be posted to the ride listing by 8:00 on the day of the ride.

At these speeds Pulling is Important ! I would like to keep the road speed between 17 - 19 mph and come in at an average Hi 15 and Lo 16. Cyclists coming with "E" bikes must stay at the end of the bike line. Good stuff after the ride.
HAPPY FATHERS DAY! Thank you for coming out... We will follow the same route as Howard except, it will be shorter, and slower. I would like to come in between 13.8 and 14 mph +/- a tad. Trying to build up distance and speed so all of us can get back to riding a Low (14.5) B minus. In order to get this average we will be doing road speeds between 14.5 and 16 mph. Expect down hills and wind at your back to be faster. We will take a break at the bagel shop about mile 14. Things could change slightly due to road conditions and wind direction.Pulling is always appreciated. There will be, (hopefully) GOOD STUFF after the ride
If you have any questions, or concerns please text me at 631.484.3490. Should there be a cancelation, or change it will be posted by 7:30am.

After a stop at 25 miles at Westhampton Beach, it's off to the Casa Basso rise and Old Country Road in Eastport. This leads to Harts Rd. and Florence Dr., which takes us to the final run to the finish.
Lots of rolling terrain will make this ride (ahem), a real pleasure. Did I mention we pass by the Big Duck?

UPDATE: New ride start location and revised route posted 6/20/23 at 7:45pm.
I've made the ride start slightly further west (Speonk LIRR) to avoid Hamptons "contractor traffic" in the morn on Rte 27. We can all sleep a little longer. LOL I also revised the route slightly to help shelter us from the forecsed east wind.
If you intend to join this ride you must pre-register. Pls call or txt me at 347-922-3824.
This is a very scenic ride with about 4,000 ft of climbing if we complete the full route. I've created a new route which will allow for several "bail-out" options if we can't all complete the full course. I am planning to make stops about every 25-30 miles for hydration, restrooms and food but this may change as "nature" calls. Avg speed should be on the upper end of the B/B+ range (close to 17 mph) with a max cruising speed of 20; however, this is always subject to change based on weather conditions.
Please pack proper hydration (at least 2 water bottles), food to eat along the way (Cliff Bars, trail mix, GU packs, etc), some $$ for lunch and ferry ride and a cell phone.
I will try to keep the group together and my intent is not to drop anyone; however, based on past experience, some riders may not be able to finish the full century+ for various reasons (muscle cramping, heat exhaustion, mechanical issues, etc.). In this case, please have a back-up plan to get yourself home (spouse, friend, Uber, etc). I also have a bail-out option once we reach the south fork. There are several trains leaving Montauk in the afternoon which make all local stops back to Hampton Bays. Riders can hop on at Montauk, Amagansett, East Hampton, Bridgehampton and Southampton. Pls download the MTA TrainTime app so you can have access to the train schedule.
If anyone has any questions, please call. Check website Tues evening for any possible changes. As Norm always says "life happens

A flat ride to Coram with a coffee break at Uncle Giuseppe's at mile 20. Please note that this is flat in a north shore way -- but not full of the upgrades we experienced on the way to Belle Terre. Much flatter :).
This will be a C+ ride, which will average 11.8-12.3. We will be riding out to Mattituck, where we will take a break at the Deli on Love Lane. Our return will take us through Jamesport, then up around Riverhead, and then possibly ride past the Buffalo on our way back to the ride start. Due to the weather forecast, I am changing the ride to a Bellport Loop, with the hope of getting a ride in.
We'll start at 9AM, with a C+ pace, averaging 11.9 - 12.5; route to be determined iat the start of the ride.
Please confirm you are coming on the ride via text - 631-523-2129.
We will depart from Captree Boat Basin and make a stop at Tobay Beach, where bathrooms are available. Our "half-way" point of the ride will be at Jones Beach State Park, where we will take our break ans, again, bathrooms and snacks/beverages are available. The round-trip ride is just over 28 miles. Due to the fact that this is a "mulituse" path, with pedestrians, runners, and skaters (to mention a few) using it, I have posted this as a C ride, and our average should be 11.5 - 11.9. As usual, the pace may also depend on the winds, who is in the group, etc.
Park next to the greenway entrance in the west lot. If you are under 62 the parking fee is $8 - butfree if you arrive before 8AM (which is why I am starting the ride at 8:30); those over 62 are free (yea!).
