Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride. This ride is for anybody, all welcome. Every week I will add some more miles. The century is Sunday September 7th. You must register for this ride, there are a few of us going. This is a great ride we do every year. This week we will be going from sunshine mall to the Riverhead McDonalds on 24. No one left behind.
We'll head out from Manorville through the pine barrens and along the back roads on the North Fork, with a lunch stop in Cutchogue.
Along the way we'll see the buffalo ranch, stop at Iron Pier Beach, Breakwater Beach and New Suffolk beach, and ride past the oldest house on Long Island.
Average pace will be a moderate B of about 15 mph.
Meet at the Manorville King Kullen, about 1/2 mile south of LIE exit 70 on CR 111. Shopping center is on the corner of Chapman and CR 111.
Please arrive in time to be ready to roll at 8 am.
I am changing the ride from Sunshine mall to Patchogue. We will meet at Briarcliff College. Park in the parking lot across from the entrance to the YMCA. We will go to Smith Point where we will take a break and then head back. The route is around 39 miles. The ride will be around 16.5 mpg so the lower end of the B+ pace. I am only posting this as a B/B+ because we have been coming in higher than a B but not high enough for a B+. Anyone riding with me knows what I mean!
Join me for a B/B+ ride. We will do the 50 mile version of Marty's ride. I want to try keep a pace line with the cursing speed about 18-20 MPH and to try to keep the group together. Those who want to go off the front are welcome. ***NO GO IN RAIN***
The route will be changed leaving and on the return, due to roads under repair. I will check the roads to be sure the detour is needed. I have come up with an detour route if still needed by Saturday the 9th.
Park behind Wendy's. Rollers on Mill Road done at your own pace; we regroup at the end. We will then go up to the Bean and Bagel for our break. Cell phone 516-330-1542.
Join us for a scenic tour thru the historic community that once was the Vanderbilt estate in Oakdale. Ride thru the Mews, pass the buildings Vanderbilt built, the homes that came later along the canals, Dowling College, the Connetquot River with views of the Bayard Cutting arboretum...and more! Meet at the south end of the Oakdale train station parking lot.
Join me for a short, early ride to beat the heat, get some exercise, and still allow you to have most of the day for other activities. We will loop around from Ronkonkoma to Connetquot, and then return through Ronkonkoma, where we will make a brief bathroom stop. This is a structured C+ ride which will average 12.2 - 12.6, with cue sheets and no one will be dropped.
PLEASE NOTE: This ride leaves from the NORTH side of the RR Tracks and we are meeting in the parking lot EAST of the train station.
I tend to be long winded so click "read more" on the bottom for the entire ride description. - I haven’t done this ride for a while and a jelly donut is calling me. Let’s take a scenic ride through Eastport, Remsenburg and Westhampton Beach. The average pace will be between 14.8 and 15.0 mph. depending on the wind and other factors. Road speed will be between 15 & 17 mph. You can call this a “B-“or a”B” ride; whatever makes you happy. There will be a short leg stretch on Dune Rd. This is not a pace line.
The ride will be either 27 miles or 31 miles depending on the wind direction and any local flooding. Around mile 22 we’ll stop at the Beach Bakery for some goodies and a bathroom break before heading back to the start.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 7:30AM if necessary. My cell phone# is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions about this ride or need directions to the start.
When I get back from Barbara's D ride let's do 25ish miles from the Oakdale RR station. Park on south west side of station. Average pace 11-12.5 and route depending on wind and tide. NOBODY LEFT BEHIND. Special care taken for newbies. Any cancellation by 8AM (will be on Barbara's ride from 9-11).
