NOTE:
Under the Ride Level details, the "Type: Road Bike" refers to the ride will be on paved roads (rather then off road trails). Although a Road Bike is suggested for Road Bike Type rides it is not required. Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride. This ride calendar is for club rides, club meetings, club event posts and shop rides only.
For Other Events in our area and off Long Island check out the "Other Rides & Events calendar" and the "Forums"

This ride has been delayed until Saturday to let the trail dry a bit more ...
Let's hope that Calverton drains enough after the precip of Wed/Thursday else this ride will be moved to BSP at the start of the ride.
I plan to do the whole thing and follow Joe's (the Pathfinder) trail segment in and around the kettle hole. Then do the back end of the regular trail in my typical fashion and speed. If others want to head out on the regular trail back it will be fine with me.
Check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Life Happens and Things Change.
Running late? PULL OVER and call my cell below ... we'll wait but make you feel lousy about it ...
No need to arrive 20 minutes early and get sweated in the car or freeze outside .... just be there in time to start at the posted Start Time.
Ah, 42, that mystical, wonderful number, and for today: the distance of the ride - more or less. (Let's face it, the Universe is fundamentally flawed; we couldn't get it to be exactly 42). The significance of 42 from the Magrathean Archive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aboZctrHfK8
We'll leave the Thunderbird home base at South Street School and ride almost the entire length of County Road 24, (backwards 42), down to Hampton Bays for a quick stop at the bagel store...sorry, but we won't be there for 42 minutes or order 42 bagels! We'll return along rolling terrain, that will include the Casa Basso and the Hart's Road Hump, and we'll have a new finishing segment.
Oh, and the predicted high temperature for today...42! (Wow!).
Mileage has been changed to 34 miles if winds are light. Moderate winds could reduce ride miles back to 30 miles. This ride goes along the scenic Peconic Bay with beautiful views along the way. Our break is at Braun's Sea Food, which has been around for decades and has great chowders, as well as seafood wraps and dishes. There is a bathroom, and picnic tables. Across their parking lot is Scoops and Grinds, where you can get coffee or ice cream for dessert. This ride is very weather dependent, strong winds or chance of rain can change the start time, or cause me to do an entirely different ride and ride start, or cancel the ride all together. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which will be posted by 08:00am.
We haven't used this ride start for awhile so while they are not charging yet I would like to take advantage of using it. We will go to Manorville and back. 40 miles but will shorten if the weather changes. Check for any changes the morning of the ride.
Saving Sunken Meadow for a later date. Heading east with a nice warm up on flats. We then hit the hills of Miller Pl., Mt. Sinai & into Port Jeff. The rest stop will be at Tiger Lilly's in Port Jeff. On the return, a mix of hills & flats. Taking it at an easy pace with wait ups on the hills & picking it up on the flats. My cell 631 922-0632. Park on the side of TJ Max.
Group ride going northbound on 51 to Riverhead. Then heading south to Westhampton and taking Old Country Rd. to get to 111. Loop around Manorville and Moriches via North St. Back to Eastport on CR80. Route link below so you can check it out. NO INTERVALS!! My goal is no stops ( unless nature calls or we get a flat)
Location: Sunrise Hwy south service rd. ( exit 61 ) or access through CR51 off of Montauk Hwy. Click Google maps link under location if needed.
Join me for this mid-day meander around Manorville and Calverton, with a good part on the bike path and the new extension back to the parking lot. If it is windy, this route will keep us on many roads that are not out in the open. We will take our break at Bean & Bagel, where you may snack and use the bathroom.
I am not using my road bike, so feel free to bring your hybrid or fat tire, if you have one. The ride will average 12 - 12.4, with cue sheets.
