Riding from VMP in Calverton we do the Tanks and head out to our first rest stop in Greenport; then it’s out to Orient State park and the Cross Sound Deli stop. On our return we stop at the MRB for a break before heading back to VMP via Mill Road (sorry no 51 & 111). Posted as an A, I hope to come in between 19-20 MPH. Cruising speed will be higher.
Note: 6/25 updated the route to avoid 25 between Burnham and Edwards. Included re-group points (these will be at the end of long runs and some turns as we usualy do). This is a twist to the usual route so please review the route and put it on your Garmin/Wahoo. Amanda will be leading a B+/A group slightly behind ours.
thanks to: Amanda, Jim, & Mike Cole for their assistance with the route.
Ride Leaders: Tag-alongs and Companion rides welcomed.
Parking is free before 8 a.m. in the Old Silvermine Lake ski area. It takes about 1.5 hours to get there from the Uncle Giuseppe parking lot on Rte. 110 near Northern State Parkway, where we will meet at 6 a.m. to drive up together (or you can drive up on your own). Be there by 7:30 a.m.
There are water and bathroom stops, bring your own food.
Ride is rated B+, not for average speed (it will be lower) but for the effort & bike handling skills needed on the climbs and steep descents. There is some paceline riding, but we will climb and descend at our own pace, with waitups at top and bottom.
If interested, please contact me before so I have your email and phone number in case of changes, etc.
Get your muscles ready to work! We'll start together with Dan's group out of Veteran's Memorial Park and will probably separate at some point depending on our group, our legs, etc. We'll do the Tanks and stop in Greenport for our first rest stop, then it's out to Orient State Park and the Cross Sound Deli. On the way back we'll stop at Main Road Biscuit and head back to VMP via Mill Road (no 51 or 111). Wait-ups as needed.
Ride Leaders: Other tag-a-longs/companion rides are welcome!!
Note: 6/25 updated the route to avoid 25 between Burnham and Edwards. Included re-group points (these will be at the end of long runs and some turns as we usually do).
Don't forget plenty of water, snacks, gels, etc. This is an unsupported ride.

Today's’ route will be similar to the Great River route with some added mileage, and a few changes. The changes will bring us through Islip Terrace or East Islip; it will all depend on the wind. The route is pretty flat except for an overpass, here and there.
We will go the usual route, heading south, using the Connetquot Park bike path. We’ll work our way through the Islip’s then down to Heckscher Park, do a loop where one can stretch the legs a bit if desired. The average pace for this ride will be between 14.5 & 15.0 +/- mph, or what conditions allow. The road speed will be between 15 and 17.0 mph, or slower if needed for safety concerns.
We’ll be making a bathroom break around mile 21. The rest stop around mile 27 will be the deli/bakery. The route back will be determined by the wind direction. Good Stuff after the Ride. Not sure what good stuff; it's always a surprise.
Any cancellations due to unforeseeable circumstances, or weather related problems will be posted by 7:30am. If you have any questions about this ride, or the start location, please call or text my cell, 631-484-3490.
