It's time for a Century! Riding out to beautiful Orient State Pk. We will stop to S T R E C H replenish & refuel every 25 to 30 miles or as need be. Lunch break TBD, most likely Greenport unless someone has a new suggestion. We will head out Sound Ave. after the intersection of Wildwood St. Pk.. In the early morning hours I have found it to be ok. On the return avoid it as much as possible due to traffic. Exact route TBD. This is B B+ pace ride. We are not racing here, rather enjoying the Journey & each other. My cell 631 922-0632. Park by TJMax side lot off Canal Rd. The bathroom across the street in the bagel shop is available. Please arrive early & ready to roll 7:30. Tag alongs or meet ups welcome at different paces & locations like Andrea Miller did last year. That was fun! Rain date is Tomorrow Sunday. Update...One member is meeting us at Briermiere Farms at 8:10 (ETA) am to jump on board the ride, you are welcome as well...
We will be going out to Great River area where we will take a quick break at the Great River Deli before heading back to the Park.
This is a B/B+ a ride with an average pace between 16 to 17 mph+/-, depending on the road conditions and wind direction. The road speed will be between 18 and 20 mph.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations, which will be posted no later than 6:30 am if necessary. My cell number is 347-677-4164; call or text anytime if you have questions about the ride or need directions to the start location.
Hilly ride so class is based on effort not speed. There are lots of turns so please download the route posted below. Please bring hydration and nutrition, there are no supported stops. Bathroom break at Cedar Beach and return to start. We will try to do the hills smoothly and stay together, waitups as required. Soul Brew after the ride.
Off to Briermere's with a possible viewing of Bison, if they are in the corral near our route. If you want to share a pie, bring singles and quarters. Briermere has a variety of baked goods, coffee/tea and fruit slushies. Real bathrooms are available. The lot where we are parked has 5 porta potties. We will be parked towards the far left of the lot, the furthest area away from the baseball fields. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 06:30am.
Hopefully we will treated to a Buffalo sighting today. We were lucky last time to see the whole herd! We will be going out to Briemere for a quick stop and then head back.. I might change this to 9 to give more time to get out there so check back the day before the ride.
I was alerted (thanks Tom) to Sayville's SUMMERFEST this weekend and, since a number of activities are happening on Saturday, I have changed the ride a little.
We are now starting from the Holbrook Country Club and will go around Ronkonkoma and Bohemia, with a short trip to the outskirts of Sayville, and then back up to Holbrook and the ride start. The actual direction may be determined by the wind, but we will take our break at the Gourmet Bagel Co. on Lakeland Ave., where beverages, food, and a bathroom are available.
This will be a structured C+ ride which will average 12.5 - 12.9.
NOTE: bathrooms are available inside the building at the ride start.
Well this time we're going to head out to Briermere Farms, through the fields along the nice and easy north route. Then we'll head south down to Route 24, that borders the river, where we'll have some winds and rolling terrain to paceline through...
About that north route, it always seems like no one likes to take it easy, they always like it nice and rough. But lets take the songs advice and take the first part easy, since the winds will make the return nice and rough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzQnPz6TpGc
8/9/2019: The tuna tournament is a "go" so be prepared for a longer than ususal break at the docks, we'll take quick water breaks along the way. This mileage has been increased from 28 to 30 miles. Bike lock is suggested in case you don’t feel like walking it around at the docks.
8/7/2019: Since I was provided with useful information letting me know that the Sayville Summerfest is taking place and rather than trying to dodge alot of activity throughout the town, I decided to change the entire direction of this route and head to Babylon instead. I still need to confirm that the Tuna Tournament is taking place, if it is, then we will take a longer break to attend the tournament. It's a very nice event where they have vendors and plenty of good food to eat (i.e. sausage and peppers). This event gets crowded so we'll have to walk our bikes at the docks. Please anticipate that there will be added mileage to this ride than originally posted. I'll fine tune it, so please be sure to check back.... :)
So air up those tires, fill up those water bottles, grab your helmet and gear...get ready to ride on what I hope will be a beautiful summer morning...
No go in the rain...
All changes/cancellations and responses to questions will be posted here :)
Easy C+ ride no one left behind if temperature is hot the pace will be slower rest stop at Briermere Questions call cell 631-484-1650 before 7pm or after 7am.
Note: The reason for the later start time is – Tully’s opens at 11am, this should put us there about that time.
We did this ride last week so let’s do it again. We’ll be taking a scenic ride through Eastport, Remsenburg and Westhampton Beach. The average pace will be between 14.5 and 15.0 mph. +/- depending on the wind, road conditions, geese, ducks, squirrels, rabbits and that stray goat you see every once in a while. Road speed will be between 15 & 17 mph. There will be a long break-a-way for those who want along Dune Road. Around mile 20 we stop at Tully’s, at 33 we’ll stop at the Beach Bakery for some goodies and a bathroom break before heading back to the start.
My cell number is 631.484.3490; call or text anytime if you have questions about this ride, or need directions to the start. Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 7:30am if necessary
