NOTE:
Under the Ride Level details, the "Type: Road Bike" refers to the ride will be on paved roads (rather then off road trails). Although a Road Bike is suggested for Road Bike Type rides it is not required. Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride. This ride calendar is for club rides, club meetings, club event posts and shop rides only.
For Other Events in our area and off Long Island check out the "Other Rides & Events calendar" and the "Forums"

Taking the ride for Mike F. This ride is mostly flat with about a mile of hills at the turn around point in Farmingville. The hills are optional because the hilly part of the ride is just a one mile loop. Nobody gets dropped and this is a true B- ride. Social distancing will be in effect for the entire ride. Bring your own pen for sign in purposes. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
Let's do this again! We will do the same route and starting point as last week. We will try to keep it together, but there will be a couple of places to test the legs for those who would like, then we will re-group. The route is mostly familiar roads, but definitely a different routing, so PLEASE MAKE SURE TO DOWNLOAD the route to your device, so you know where you are going. Hope to have you join us!
SOCIAL DISTANCE RULES: I will be signing everyone in also please keep appropriate distance throughout our wait ups and in the parking lot.
Let me start by saying I’m not looking for a rebuttal, or a debate. The SBRA board is thinking about shutting down the ride calendar due to the virus. If you are a ride leader, or a rider who feels like they shouldn’t ride, this is your choice, you know your own situation, don't ride! Don't post! I know my own situation; I will make my own choices, and not be bound by other opinions. If the calendar gets shut down, and you still want to ride with me, we will have to do it by email, or texting in order to set up a ride. My email address is bploetz28@gmail.com. Or text me at 631.484.3490. With me, texting works best. All my rides will be a B minus. If I get slower riders I will adjust the pace. You will not be left behind.
I have a ride up for today which will not be cancelled. For Sunday if it’s not too cold I have a ride up as well. I am an adult, I know my risks, I go to Home Depot, the food stores, the, post office etc. I’m of the opinion, the world is not ending and life goes on. That being said… If you are sick, or feel sick, for the safety of your fellow riders please don't ride today.
It's off to Manorville. The route will depend on the wind direction. The average pace for the ride will be between 14.0 to 15.0 mph +/- depending on the roads, wind direction, rider ability or other conditions. Naturally, the road speed will be higher (15 -17.0 mph.) to produce the average.
There are a few places along the route where leg stretches can be done for those who wish to do so. There is no obligation for anyone to do this; you can hang back with me.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00am, if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call or text me anytime if you have questions about the ride
I willl not be leading any rides until we are over the Covid 19 crisis.
Nice Easy B for anyone just starting to get out there again. Please check the morning of the ride for any updates for ride start time. I might change to 10:00 if it looks to be cold.
due to the current pandemic, I do not feel we should be encouraging people to meet in groups so this ride is cancelled.
Park in the King Kullen lot closest to Montauk Highway. We will travel mostly flat back roads to our stop at the Quogue Wildlife Refuge. Bathrooms will be available but bring your own snack and drink. Always check back for any changes which would be posted by 8 am. Since many people have not been riding, this will be on the low end of C.
UPDATE- The BOARD is suspending club rides being posted on the website, and those currently posted will most likely be removed (including this one). However, individual ride leaders may still lead rides (nothing to do with the club) and, obviously, follow safe guidelines regarding the virus pandemic. I will still be going out on this ride, and will either mention other on the Forum, or in individual emails. Everyone must make their own decision to ride or not - obviously don't if you are sick or ill 0 but if yo want the exercise, and to get out in the fresh air (which is what is being recommended), you are more than welcome.
Join me for this C+ ride (average 12.0to 12.5) around Holbrook, Ronkonkoma, and Bohemia, then down to Sayville and back up to the ride start in Ronkonkoma. We will take a break along the route where beverages, food, and a bathroom are available. Adjustments to the route direction and/or distances may be made due to the prevailing winds and/or temperature changes.
NOTE: I just saw on Bobby's post that the board is considering shutting down the ride calendar. I disagree with this as i feel we are lucky to be able to ride outdoors where we can maintain social distance, get fresh air, and release feel-good endorphines during these very stressful times. Personally i am taking this virus very seriously and observing strict social distance and sanitizing practices per agency recommendations. I believe Riding represents a healthy means of socialing in a low risk situation and as adults we can decide our risk factors. If the calendar shuts down, i too will look to ride with anyone who wants to ride the roads or the woods at about my pace. You can text me at 631-806-9662 or email at arisener@optonline.net. Since i am avoiding almost all social contact, i feel this is my healthiest outlet to maintain my sanity.
If you are up for a ride in the woods, meet me at Glacier Ridge to be ready to ride at 10:15 (it will be a chilly day). I will plan to ride the main trail and the easier diamonds, including County Rd 83 N & S, Hunter and Ghost. I'm leaving the Ridges for the Hammerheads!
Please check back by 8:15 am for any changes to this ride. Any questions, please call my cell. Feel free to bring wipes and sanitizer if you wish.
Bring the bikes and lets take it outside! Learn some of the details of group riding that could help you bump up to a faster group, inprove your skill set and make the cycling world a safer place. Will meet in far right corner of Field 4 which is across the street from the boat launch. Stay to the right when after entering the park. Boat launch on right. Go and perform a U turn and then enter parking lot on the right. This class is done in the afternoon so everyone can ride in the morning. We will not be riding many miles but the miles we do will be quality.
