Ouch! The Alien Ride is back! It's off to Area 51 for the 9th season that we'll visit the Route 51 Hill and other fun roads. Along the way we'll visit Mill Road, Route 24 and the every popular Alien Highway (County Road 51).
As is the tradition, the ride will be non-stop, except for a couple of wait-ups. This way, once we warm-up we'll stay warm, no rest stops to get cold! Non-stop pain, ouch! Just don't slow down too much, those pesky aliens might catch you!
We are heading to Netties (primary route) or Smith Point, largely depends on the wind at an 11.5-13 pace for 22-26 miles. Either way there will be a food and bathroom stop. Check back here for any changes which will be before 8:30am. As always newbies well taken care of and nobody gets left behind. Also bring water and a snack as route depends on wind, tide, position of moon and ride leaders disposition.
NOTE: Once again, the wind for Saturday is predicted to be around 18 mph; and cold. If this forecast stays I will cancel the ride in the morning by 0715.
We will be doing a scenic ride through Eastport, Remsenburg and Westhampton Beach. The average pace will be between 14.9 and 15.0 mph. +/- depending on the wind, road conditions, geese, ducks, squirrels, and rabbits. Road speed will be between 15 & 17 mph. We might end up with an extra mile or two, but that's it. Pulling is always appreciated. There will be a short break-a-way along Dune Road; we will not be going to the big bridge. Around mile 25/27 we’ll stop at the Beach Bakery for some goodies and a bathroom break before heading back to the start.
The average pace for the ride will be between 14.5 to 15.0 mph +/- depending on the roads, wind direction, rider ability, tailwinds, downhills, break-a-ways and other conditions. All of these conditions could change the final average one way or the other. Naturally, the road speed will be higher (15 -17mph.) to produce the average.
Any cancellation due to weather, or any other circumstance will be posted no later than 0715 if necessary. If you have question about the ride just text me at 631.484.3490. Eventually my phone and I will meet in a reasonable amount of time...
This ride is for experienced novice and intermediate riders to build skills, confidence, strength and just have fun! Please arrive by 9:30 so we can hit the trail by posted time. We will do a moderate pace, nothing crazy and wait ups so no one will be left behind. Bring water and snacks as needed. Woods will feel warmer than road with wind naturally blocked
We will meet at Mill Rd entrance just south of Skip Rd and Home Depot
plz text me if you intent to join this ride so I know who to wait for. 631-806-9662 .
***I was just advised that there is deer bow hunting in parts of Overton (as well as a few other trails). People are still biking there but caution and perhaps bright clothing and a bell? Might be orudent
