I haven't ridden my hills for weeks, so this is the perfect time to join if you feel "rusty" or are new to hill riding. This will be a slow ride, even on the flats. Expect an average around 12 mph.
If I don't hear from anyone, we'll leave from home -- so please be sure to text that you're coming, with your SBRA number and emergency phone number. My cell: 631-835-1454.
This will be my usual ride to the Old Field lighthouse (snack break)and back with the addition of a one hour stop to examine the Flax Pond boardwalk. In order to accommodate bathroom needs, we will stop about 6 miles in at the Setauket library before going to Old Field. From the lighthouse, we get to Flax Pond, offering a small hike to those who come along.
Be sure to bring your snack and water from home. Last minute changes posted by 8:30 morning of ride.
Come join me for a 10am C+/B- meander to Bean & Bagel. There will be some water views, and it should be a fairly nice day out.
We will average between 13 to 14, with cruising between 14 to 16 to get that average.
I will wait-up whenever someone falls behind. No one will be dropped. If you want to join me please text me on my cell, 631-655-7801.Please provide your name, SBRA, cell, and emergency numbers. Any changes to the ride will be posted by 8am. The ride will be limited to 12 riders, unless a second ride leader signs up and wishes to split the ride. Once accepted onto the ride if you need to cancel for any reason please text me as early as possible.
For this Flat ride the Average speed is 11.5-12.5mph depending on riders, wind, tide, position of moon and leaders disposition with a distance of 18-23 miles. Nobody gets left behind and newbies always welcome and well taken care of. Any cancellation will be before 9:00am. No need to text me.
Park in south side lot across from RR station.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the ride start, to allow enough time for me to get everyone signed in and to "get yourself" ready.
We'll do a loop in Hecksher with a quick restroom stop. From there we'll go to Islip beach - there will be an optional opportunity to stretch your legs.
Pack a snack and drinks as there won't be a food stop.
Have lights on your bike and be prepared to leave promptly at 5:15 pm to ensure we're back before nightfall.
Call/text me at 631-521-0688 if you plan on joining this ride - no need to provide your details since you'll be signing in when you arrive.
Changes/cancellations will be made by 4:00 pm the day of the ride.
