Scenic ride from Eastport to Southampton. We'll try to hang on to the Kreb "A" ride as long as we can and then we'll head east to Southampton by the Shinnecock canal. Tour of Southampton will include some of the best roads this town has to offer along with a stop at Tate's Bakery for some goodies and then a ride through the famous Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.
This C+ ride of 18-25 miles will average 11.5-12.5mph. Bring snack/hydration as route depends on wind, tide, position of moon and ride leaders disposition. Newbies welcome and well taken care of and nobody gets left behind. Any cancellation will be by 8:30am. No need to text, email, phone, send message by carrier pidgeon or smoke signal me. Just show up 15-20 minutes before ride start to get your s**t together.
Park in the first lot on the right back at the West end.
After passing it seemingly a million times, a number of us on Susan's Ice Cream ride investigated the outside restauant near the historical marker for the old submarine base in New Suffolk. Although not inexpensive, we decided it would be interesting to start a ride from near the restaurant (which is called Minnow at the Galley Ho) and after the ride have lunch at the Minnow.
So come join us for another Northforkin variation, this time starting in New Suffolk and heading out to Southold, back to Mattituck and on to New Suffolk, ending at the Minnow. The ride will feature some amazing vistas, a series of fun rollers and of course a few water views. A neat 37 miles or so.
Afterwards, anyone who is interested is welcome to hang for awhile and get a bite and try the food at the Minnow. Park on the Street leading to the submarine historical marker. The address of the Minnow is 650 1st Street, by the New Suffolk Waterfront.
Please bring snacks, sufficient hydration and, if joining the after ride lunch, money for food. Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore and discover.
If you have any questions, please text Bill Mastro at 917-921-5358. I'm always tweaking my routes. The final ridewithgps file will be forwarded to those that text me. Any updates or weather issues will be posted to the ride listing by 7:30 on the day of the ride.
