This ride venue has been moved to Calverton because Cathedral Pines gets muddy too quickly and wet roots are a little bit tricky. Those of us who are a bit stronger can do two passes of Roller Coaster for good measure.
Sorry if this change has messed up your plans ...
Check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Life Happens and Things Change.

We'll start the season with a slightly easier pace, as I was forced off the bike for some weeks. Short of a few sections where you can stretch your legs, we keep everyone together on this ride, with no pace-hijacking!

Newbies always welcome and well taken care of and nobody gets left behind. Be there or be square. Cancellation for any reason will be posted by 9:00am.

We'll try one more time to ride Cathedral after it dries ;-) ... I plan to do all the BDs but if you're a begineer/intermediate come along. NO ONE gets left in the woods and Cathedral has meetup spots at the end of the diamonds and some of the single BDs are not that difficult.

Will probably stay in and around the bike path, so the trees will block some of the wind: distance of 16 - 18 miles.
Join me for this ride around Calverton and Manorville. If it is windy today, this route will keep us on many roads that are not out in the open. A big portion of the ride will also include the new bike path, which has very little rider traffic midweek and should be protected from the wind. Since there isn't rain in the forecast this week, the leaves, etc. on the trail should be dry.
The ride will average 12.4 - 12.7, with cue sheets.
Ok, so it's going to be COLD! Colder temps than I usually ride in so be sure to check back here by 7:30 am day of ride to see if I chicken out! But I am going to try to do it since it's supposed to be sunny. Mostly back roads to the Quogue Wildlife Refuge for a short snack and bathroom break, no formal food stop. But how about pizza after the ride?

Simple ride from Belmont Lake State park to the Town of Babylon docks. Pack a snack and water, just in case we don't stop along the way. Depending on the weather and how everyone feels, we may do alittle meandering in town, which can increase the ride to 14 miles.
This time the Thunderbirds will be going Southbound, https://youtu.be/oUyjeiWz_6c , for a change of destination. We'll head to our secret island base to take a look at the beach at the Point.
Today's’s route to Great River will change up a bit towards the end of the ride, if the wind is in our favor; making this route pretty flat except for 2 overpasses. We will go the usual route heading south using the Connetquot Park bike bath. We’ll work our way down to Heckscher Park, do a loop where one can stretch the legs a bit if desired.
The average pace for this ride will be between 14.5 & 15.0 +/- mph, or what conditions allow. The road speed will be between 15 and 16.5 mph, or slower if needed for safety concerns.
We’ll be making a rest stop around mile 19 at the deli/bakery. The route back will be determined by the wind direction. Good Stuff after the Ride. Not sure what good stuff; it's always a surprise.
Any cancellations due to unforeseeable circumstances, or weather related problems will be posted by 8:00am. If you have any questions about this ride, or the start location, please call or text my cell, 631-484-3490.

The ride will head to Manorville then head west and south to Moriches for just a couple of long loops to the bay. The break will be at MacDonalds in Center Moriches. This is a shortened version of my To Miller Place ride. It cuts off along North Country for a bagel at Crystal Brook Hollow, leaving out the steepest climb. We’ll cruise in the 14’s and there will be wait ups if needed for the hills. A nice effort to warm us up on a cool day. There will be places to go ahead of the leader.

Mid-40 temps expected on Friday, YAY! This is the companion ride to the long-running Kreb Shop "A" Ride. We make every effort to keep both ride groups together, but if there is a split, we let the A ride go ahead.
Please park your car in the Bellport Municipal Parking Lot located at Bellport Lane & Bell Street, and then ride bike half a block over to the Kreb Bike Shop parking lot at 10 Bell Street, to sign-in for ride and hear the pre-ride briefing.

Change of venue to avoid ruts on the ES trails ....

The weekend forecast looks like a washout so doing East Setauket during the week. Leave some extra time for the commute.
I'd like to do the Advanced section heading north but will not mind to modify and do the Intermediate trail depending on who shows. More BD waitups on the Intermediate trail so we can hang together.
Check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Life Happens and Things Change.

As many of you are aware Edwin Sanchez is running a cycling club out of Longwood and could use our help. What he is asking for is to look at anything you have that revolves around cycling and haven't used in a while. Gloves, helmets, jackets, old wheels, what every you have. He will be on Saturday's ride and I will be cleaning out the things I don't use. Please help out what ever you can.
This is a great cause and even if you can't ride drop something of at Car Hart on Saturday morning and I will make sure he gets it.

For those familiar with the Wed Nite Roller Coaster, this will be some of that route but we'll start by heading up Lower Sheep Pasture and come out over near Poquott. Will pick up the route in Setauket with a shortened loop in Strong's Neck, then on to Old Field and West Meadow. There are hills, so the pace indicates that...and places to stretch your legs out ahead, wait ups after climbs. But please note this is not a "race ride". Soup or Green Cactus is an option for lunch after, if there is interest.
Brings snacks/water as our break will be on the route in Old Field and West Meadow. Bathrooms in Setauket if needed and at West Meadow (port-o-potty).
Smooth ride, no catering stops but we will wait at top of hills for those who can hold a 18 average. Bring a midride snack that does not require heating. Leaves a few minutes after any riders who want a more galloping pace.
Please check here one hour before ride for any changes.
This ride has been moved to Sunday due to the forecast rain.
Doing ES on the w/e makes for less commuter traffic. I plan on doing the Advance trail as it dries faster than the Intermediate trail ... BUT if an Intermediate rider shows we'll determine the route by condition of the trail up to the trail split on the west side of the fire road. Depending on which trail we do on Sunday, I plan on doing the other trail on Monday.
Check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Life Happens and Things Change.
Running late? PULL OVER and call my cell below ... we'll wait but make you feel lousy about it ...
No need to arrive 20 minutes early and get sweated in the car or freeze outside .... just be there in time to start at the posted Start Time.
Let's meet up at the Oakdale train station for a spin to the Bellport docks. We'll stop at the deli for breakfast. Pack a snack, drinks, air up those tires and layer up for a nice flat ride.
Any changes/cancellations will be posted by 7:30 AM the morning of the ride.
The average pace for this ride will be between 14.5 & 15.0; or what conditions allow.
Off to Manorville McDonalds, with some miles on the Grumman Trail. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Check for changes which would be posted by 07:45am. Winds and weather could change/cancel the ride.
Join me for this C+ ride from Sayville - destination will be determined by the prevailing winds. We will have a bathroom stop and take a break somewhere.
This is a structured ride which will average 12.3 - 12.7, depending on wind, riders, etc. There will be cue sheets and no one will be dropped.
NOTE: Park on the South Side of the train station, across the street.
Depending on which trail we do on Sunday, I plan on doing the other trail on Monday. Hoping the weekday pre-holiday traffic makes makes for less commuter traffic. Check back on Sunday night to see which trail I plan to do for this ride.

I'll follow Bill G's ride sheet, a little different than mine, still getting to the same place. This is a moderate C+/B- ride, stopping at Bean & Bagel for the break. Distance is 24 give or take. Any changes by 8:30am
Join me for this ride from Bellport to Bohemia, where we will take our break at Cookie's Deli. If it is windy, we will be able to duck out of the wind here and there, and hopefully have the wind to our back on the return leg of the ride. There will be a few views of the Great South Bay along the way.
This will be a low paced C+ ride, which will average 12.2 - 12.6.
Overton has a number of diamonds that are do-able by Intermediate riders ... Got 6 Minutes, BD #1, #2 and #5. There are waitups and the BD's always loop back to the Blue main. I plan to do most of the BDs including the new Wild Turkey berm which has been made more exciting ... Thanks CLIMB! Though Overton itself is really enough ... depending on a group decision maybe we'll cross Rt 112 and JUST do Dark Side of the Moon (DSoM) and Eclipse.
Let's hope the trail is quiet (no metal crushing or fertilizer grinding ;-) .

Off to the preserve via Dune Road, with bathroom stops and a bakery stop. Several viewing stops along the way. Strong winds could shorten and/or or slow the ride. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Check for changes the day of the ride, which would be posted by 08:00am. Optional pizza or salad at the pizza place in the King Kullen shopping center where we are parked.
Note: Change of starting point, mileage and food stop. About 20 miles of this ride will be on the Grumman Trail, including its brand new extension which is about a week old. The trail has been mostly cleared of deep debris, with the exception of a few hundred feet of pine needles, that were easily traversed at a slower pace. We will pass a huge solar farm that is being constructed adjacent to the eastern part of the trail. Using the trail helps to shield us from the wind, and of course it is car free. Note: the trail is currently being extended at its current terminus, heading North. Can't wait to see where it goes. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar for changes, which would be postd by 07:30am day of ride. Weather conditions can affect the speed and distance of the ride.
Today's Mi Tierrita ride will be going to Wertheim. We will take a break there; bring a snack if you want. The route is mostly flat with a small incline here and there. The route on the way back may change depending on the wind.
The average pace for the ride will be between 14.5 to 15.0 mph, depending on the roads and wind direction. The road speed will be between 15 and 16.5 mph.
Do you know what AGUAPANELA is? Come and find out; PARKING: Use the area of the parking lot on the SOUTH side first.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00 am if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call or text anytime if you have questions about the ride or need directions to the start...

Driving to the Ride Start so I might be a few minutes late arriving ...
I plan on doing the Advance trail as we did the Intermediate trail earlier this week ... I'll be slow and tired from doing Overton on Wednesday.
It's a really late start but also if you want to spend an hour in meditation before riding than give me a call on my cell # below ... I'll be glad to lead you along to a free meditation session at the Bates House.

All Thunderbirds and aliens, the Alien Ride lives: come to the South Street School and prepare to launch a ride into the infamous Area 51 and the Alien Highway! It's been awhile since we've braved the legendary hill and the winds of Area 51, so let's get out on the road and see what adventures await.
We'll do the short course this time, with the new ride start of the South Street School. On the short course, we'll turn off County Road 51 at the second traffic light, and follow Head of the Neck and Clancy to reach Chapman and the finish on South Street.
We will have wait-ups at the top of Moriches-Middle Island Road, at the gas station after Mill Road and after the top of the hill on CR-51 at Speonk-Riverhead Road. Everyone who wants to be on this ride will stop at these points, so that we can all regroup and continue riding as a group. Let's take it easy on each other, as some of us are still recovering from time off the bike.
Hopefully the Men-in-Black (MIB) (and Frank the alien Pug), will be out on the ride, keeping the aliens in line and the ride at a even pace!
Leaving the bank we will be heading to Bellport. Our food stop will be at the Bellport Deli. Depending on the weather & route this ride may be a few miles more or less than posted.
This is a B- ride with an average speed of 14.5 to 15 mph, road speeds may reach 17-19mph. Check the ride calender for any changes posted by 7:00AM day of ride.
If you have any questions concering this ride you can call me on my cell phone at (516) 448-8545.
New route so check route or download before the start, You can also check the cue sheet. Wait ups as necessary. If you think you will have problems on the hills buddy up with someone at or near your ability. This is winter time not race time so work on the hills, don't race them. Quick stop at mile 29.
NOTE: Should it be too cold, or windy the ride will be canceled, moved, or possibly changed to an afternoon ride. Please make sure you check the START LOCATION if any changes are made.
This will be a nice ride around the Holbrook area. The average pace for this ride will be between 14.0 & 15.0 mph; naturally the road speed will be higher to produce the average. We can all go for coffee and a bagel or to the bakery for some sweet stuff at the end of the ride and chat if you want.
Any cancellation due to weather or any other circumstance will be posted no later than 8:00am if necessary. If you have question about the ride or the start location please call or text me 631.484.3490…
I think I've got the route down pat, maybe we'll add an extra loop at the end. It's a moderate C+/B- ride to Calverton with the stop at Bean & Bagel. Any changes no later than 8:30am.
Easy ride to the Quogue Wildlife Refuge. Bring snacks and drink for our short stop there. Optional pizza after the ride. Always check back for changes which would be posted by 8 am.
Depending on wind, tide and position of moon we will ride approx. 15-20ish miles at a 10-11.5 mph pace from Ronk station. Be ready to roll at posted time with water, fully inflated tires and helmet. Newbies always welcome and well taken care of and nobody gets left behind. Be there or be square. Cancellation for any reason will be posted by 9:00am.
come celebrate the new year with your bike and your bicycle buddies!
volunteers from long island cares will be at ride start to collect food donations (human and pets)...a splendid time to share your pantry with others less fortunate.
post ride tailgate event (bring some warm clothes and some food and beverage)
i invite other ride leaders to post rides that will finish at the ecology center by 12 noon.
this ride/event will be weather dependent so let's hope for mild dry weather. msg me for questions and concerns
NOTE: a DEC Parking & Access Permit is Required for this trail.
Time for variation ... I haven't been in Commack since last year. My memory is of a mostly flat ride with a fun hill upto rail road ties on a wide berm ... but I know we skipped at least one other down into a kettle hole (?) where there is a significant climb out. Also, a really challenging tube with tight turns after each climb out of the trench. This ride will be slow as I really don't know the trail. Last year we ran out of time as well as energy ... I plan to do more this year.
I posted this ride as a B as there is a definite begineer/intermediate trail off which the diamonds exit/re-enter.
Check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Life Happens and Things Change.

We will be doing Ron's (guruguy)New Years ride but in a different direction. See his posting for details about tail gate party and food donations.
If the wind direction doesn’t change this should be a pretty good route for today. The ride for today will be a nice ride through Bellport and Patchogue stopping for a break at Mickey D’s around mile 16. The average pace will be between 14.5 to 15.0 mph depending on the roads, wind direction, dew point, and other conditions.
Naturally, the road speed will be higher (15 -16.5 mph.) to produce the average. Depending on the wind and the route back we might be +/- a mile.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00am if necessary. My cell phone number is 631-484-3490; call or text anytime if you have questions about this ride.
Starting this ride at 10 since that's when the bathrooms are open in the park. We may need to shorten the ride to get back in time for the festivities.
Join this multi level ride and tailgate party after. Bring canned food for humans and/or animals and something to share with your bike friends after. (see Ron's post for additional info)
9am start as I want to be done before the rain moves in. Check back for any changes.
Last ride of the year so looking for a friendly group ride. A few wait ups and one brief stop. Route may be adjusted to beat any weather that is coming in.
This is a moderate C+/B- ride to Calverton. Found my way last time, so we'll use the non Mill RD route, stopping at Bean & Bagel for coffee. Any changes no later than 8am.
The ride will average 12.3 - 12.7, with cue sheets.
