NOTE:
Under the Ride Level details, the "Type: Road Bike" refers to the ride will be on paved roads (rather then off road trails). Although a Road Bike is suggested for Road Bike Type rides it is not required. Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride. This ride calendar is for club rides, club meetings, club event posts and shop rides only.
For Other Events in our area and off Long Island check out the "Other Rides & Events calendar" and the "Forums"
To go more quickly back or forward "several" months click the "Year" link here or at the top of page.
It will be a return of the heat and be almost 15F at the start ;-). Check out my cold weather suggestion on the forum: https://www.sbraweb.org/?q=forum/19 and see if it helps your hands.
I plan to do Joe's (the Pathfinder) revitailzed trail segment and may take a short cut there and then do the back end of the regular trail. If others want to head out on the regular trail it will be fine with me.
Check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Life Happens and Things Change.

Hunting season has ended! So, lets take an easy meander around Calverton and Manorville, with a good part on the bike path and the new extension back to the parking lot. The temperature shouldn't be too bad and, if it is windy, this route will keep us on many roads that are not out in the open. We will take our beak at Bean & Bagel, where you may snack and use the bathroom.
I am not using my road bike, so feel free to bring your hybrid or fat tire, if you have one. The ride will average 11.8 - 12.0, with cue sheets.
who cares about the game...... weather forecast shows a good day to be in the woods..... traditionally, this ride is led by norm at cathedral with soup at THAT local diner. norm will be out of town and THAT diner has closed. so let's ride calverton and perhaps go to bean and bagel post ride. can anyone coordinate this (private pay/no club funding) all riders and ride leaders are welcome to ride and lead!!
NOTE: If it is too windy the route and the distance will be shortened to make the ride easier. The start time and the ride start location will remain the same.
This morning it might be nice to take a ride through Bellport and Patchogue stopping for a break at Mickey D’s around mile 20. The average pace will be between 14.0 to 15.0 mph depending on the roads, wind direction, dew point, and other conditions. Naturally, the road speed will be higher (15 -16.5 mph.) to produce the average. Depending on the wind and the route back we might be +/- a mile.
Good Stuff after the Ride. Not sure what good stuff; it's always a surprise.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00am if necessary. My cell phone number is 631-484-3490; call or text anytime if you have questions about this ride.
The bagel oven broke today, Saturday, at the Bean and Bagel. Bring a snack for the ride in case the oven isn't fixed. They do have other foods to eat, plus bathrooms. From the Veteran's Park lot we will go completely around the Grumman Trail, appx. 10 miles, returning to where we are parked. If you want to do a second loop, we will continue on the trail, stop at Bean and Bagel for a break, than complete the trail for a second time. At this point we have stayed on a car free trail the whole ride, except to cross the street to get to and from Bean and Bagel. As a bonus, when we have returned to the lot a second time, we can ride another five miles or so on existing roads, bringing total mileage up to about 25 miles. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Check the calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 08:00am. This is a new ride.
Group or team ride. One stop and no wait ups so I will be going up the hills at a moderate (max of 300 watts) pace up Little Flower and 51. Looking at a pace that keeps everyone moving. Last few weeks we have kept everyone in contact. If a faster group goes off the front I will not chase. The ride is about base miles.
A reminder that this is the month you want to renew your membership to SBRA. The club does a lot to promote cycling in the community so pony up.
Join me for this C+ ride from Sayville - destination will be determined by the prevailing winds. We will have a bathroom stop and take a break somewhere.
I am not using my road bike, so feel free to bring your hybrid or fat tire bike, if you have one. This is a structured ride which will average 12.2 - 12.6, depending on wind, riders, etc.
NOTE: Park on the South Side of the train station, across the street.
Exploring a new route. Slow and steady is today's pace at a low B. I'm riding a borrowed hybrid (just saying) & happy to be out there. My cell 631 9220632
Park in lot across from Krebs for a short meander to Patchogue. Get a few miles in before the Super Bowl snacks! Always check back for any changes which would be posted by 11:00.
Join me for this ride around Holbrook, Ronkonkoma, and Bohemia, then down to Sayville and back up to Holbrook and the ride start. We will take our break at the Gourmet Bagel Co. on Lakeland Ave., where beverages, food, and a bathroom are available. I will adjust the route direction for the most favorable winds.
This will be a C+ ride which will average 12.1 - 12.6. I am not using my road bike, so feel free to bring your hybrid or fat tire bike, if you have one.
For a change, let’s go to Yaphank today… The average pace for the ride will be between 14.0 and 15.0 mph. The road speed on this ride will be between 15 and 16.5 mph. depending on the roads, wind direction, and other conditions. There is a nice break-a-way before the deli for those who want to go.
Around mile 20 there will be a rest stop at the deli and then we’ll head back. Depending on conditions we might add a mile or two; no more than that.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00am if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call or text anytime if you have questions about this ride or need directions to the start.
We will be leaving Bank of American in East Islip heading to Great River and East Islip area. Then we will head to Islip Beach. We may be stopping at McDonalds around mile 17 for our break. However, please bring your snacks and drinks just incase we don't. Any questions call Mike at 516 448-8545
This is a B- ride with an average speed of 14.5 to 15 mph, road speeds may reach 17-18mph. Check the ride calender for any changes posted by 8:00am day of ride.
For information, read the posted 2-loop ride listed on Sunday, Feb. 3. This will be the same ride, with choices of 10, 20 or 25 miles, at a C pace. If you haven't ridden for a while, this might be the ride for you. For info, and any changes, look at Sunday's 2 loop ride.
CHANGE: Just wanted to put it out there so there will be no disappointed riders. The ride might be a little slower than posted – reason, CHRIS will be attempting her first ride since the accident; she will not be sweeping!
This will be a nice ride around the Holbrook area. The average pace for this ride will be between 14.0 & 15.0 mph; naturally the road speed will be higher to produce the average. If it's a real nice day we might add a mile or two. We can all go for coffee and a bagel at the end of the ride and chat if you want.
Any cancellation due to weather or any other circumstance will be posted no later than 8:00am if necessary. If you have question about the ride or the start location please call or text me 631.484.3490…
Off to the bakery, with some mileage on Dune Road into Quogue. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 08:15am.
Easy paced ride. It's suppossed to be a nice day so we will get out and save something for Wednesday. Post ride coffe is an option as we will be near DD at the end of the ride.
We will be leaving Bank of America and head to Great River and East Islip for a 20 mile ride. The ride will be at a B- pace with an average speed of around 14.5 to 15mph and road speeds that will reach 16 to 18mph.
Changes or cancelation will be posted by 12:30pm day of ride.
If you have any questions concerning this ride, call Mike at 516 448-8545.
Join me for this ride from Bellport to ?? destination will be determined by the winds - maybe Bohemia, maybe Smith Point. Whereven we go, we will take a break and there will be a bathroom available.
I am not using my road bike, so feel free to bring your hybrid or fat tire bike, if you have one. This will be a low paced C+ ride, which will average 12.2 - 12.5.
(Intrepid Tag Along ride leader, Alley Gonzalez is still on hiatus)
This is the companion ride to the long-running Kreb Shop "A" Ride. We make every effort to keep both ride groups together, but if there is a split, we let the A ride go ahead. For this B+/A ride, please be prepared to average 19mph. We will wait up 2X for slow riders, but after that, it's unfair to the group to make them wait in cold weather. Therefore, if this ride is a reach for you....please bring along a pal for company.
Please park your car in the Bellport Municipal Parking Lot located at Bellport Lane & Bell Street, and then ride bike half a block over to the Kreb Bike Shop parking lot at 10 Bell Street, to sign-in for ride and hear the pre-ride briefing. We do scheduled wait-ups (and as necessary), in addition to one brief rest stop halfway through ride. Please bring adequate drinks and nutrition, as the rest stop occurs in a parking lot (no food/drinks/restrooms available).
Check back after 7 AM on Friday to see if this ride is delayed until Sunday.
Note the ride will start from the SOUTH parking lot on Granny! Changing up the sequence of BDs makes a new route!
This ride may be delayed due to forecast precip.
Time for the Rock Garden + I plan to do most of the other BDs including the Wild Turkey berm + the new section of #6. Though Overton itself is really enough ... depending on a group decision maybe we'll cross Rt 112 and JUST do Dark Side of the Moon (DSoM) and Eclipse.
Overton has a number of diamonds that are do-able by Intermediate riders ... Got 6 Minutes, BD #1, #2 and #5. There are waitups and the BD's always loop back to the Blue main.
Let's hope the trail is quiet (no metal crushing or fertilizer grinding ;-) .
Check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Life Happens and Things Change.
Running late? PULL OVER and call my cell below ... we'll wait but make you feel lousy about it ...
Thunderbirds: Get ready to launch into a ride to Riverhead, where we'll have a short stop at the bagel place. We'll hit Grumman Blvd., Mill Rd. and Route 24, on the way east.
On the return, the Freeways in life are all pointing us home, in this case south along the Alien Highway!
It will be cold and windy so we head into the hills. There may be more than one group so download or know the route so you don't get off course. I will not be riding hard as it will be cold out. My plan is to minimize the stops so the pace will be slower. Again if you go ahead please know the route. The idea is to do the hills and not race them. I will give directions to each wait up at the start of the ride.
My ride has been moved to Sunday due to Friday morning rain and moving it to ES on the w/e makes for less commuter traffic.
I plan on doing the Advance trail as it dries faster than the Intermediate trail ... BUT if an Intermediate rider shows we'll determine the route at the trail split on the west side of the fire road.
Check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Life Happens and Things Change.

This is a B- ride with an average speed around 15 mph, road speeds may reach 16-19mph. Check the ride calender for any changes posted by 8:00am day of ride.
This will be a moderate paceline ride, where the group stays together, for protection from the wind and creatures from the deep. Let's target a pace at the lower end of B/B+. Pace hijackers will be sacrificed to the seaweed monsters!
Getting ready for the FANY. Heading east then north to Belle Terre. Doing some hills & loops for training. Taking it slow & easy. My cell 631 922-0632 A short rest stop TBD. Park by TJ Max
This ride includes 2 car free loops on the Grumman Trail (except for crossing back and fourth to Bean and Bagel on our second loop). Since this is a series of loops, you can drop out at mile 10 when we return to our starting point. The second loop includes Bean and Bagel, with a return to our cars at mile 20 You can end your ride at this point, or continue for an additional 7 miles, which will include riding on regular roads and we will again return to our cars. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 08:00am.
This ride is taking place at Brookhaven State Park as there will be SNOW on the ground at the start. FAT bikes will have a blast! We'll head south from the Red Fireroad to Rt 25 and then circle around going north upto the Green fire road where we'll vote on continuing to Rt 25A. With 1-2" of snow we'll have a blast! But I'll pass on rolling over any logs (ask me why if you don't know! ;-).
CHECK back to this posting later Mondayday night or before leaving for the ride as I might also be bring my XC skis.
Please leave extra time and DRIVE CAREFULLY ... remember Life Happens and Things Change.
Please be on time but if you're running late ... PULL OVER and call my cell below ... we'll wait but make you feel lousy about it ...
I plan to do the whole thing and follow Joe's (the Pathfinder) trail segment in and around the kettle hole. Then do the back end of the regular trail in my typical fashion and speed. If others want to head out on the regular trail back it will be fine with me.

Long hills so we want to stay together. Lots of climbing, no racing. We have not done a lot of climbing so we will adjust the pace. Meet ups with short recoveries. Bring what you need as there are few stores near by.
Off to Bellport – AKA The Pizza Ride…This ride to Bellport will be a 95% flatty. The average pace will come in between 14 and 15 mph; and of course the road speed will be higher to get the average. About half way through the ride we’ll make a pit stop at the café in Bellport and then return. The final mileage will be somewhere between 23 & 26 miles
NOTE: Please check the calendar by 11:30am. It’s winter, anything can change; the start location, mileage or the route. Or maybe it's just too cold or windy.
Any cancellations due to unforeseeable circumstances, or weather related problems will be posted by 11:30am. If you have any questions about this ride, or the start location, please call or text my cell, 631-484-3490.
This is the long-running Kreb shop ride. This week, we plan to do the extended route for 41 miles (10 mile loop added after The Maples rest stop). GPX file available here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28834907
There is only one rest stop (in a parking lot - no rest rooms or water available), so please bring enough drink/nutrition for ride. Wait-ups as necessary.
**If rain threatens, we may shorten route back to the standard 31 miler, though.
Please park in the municipal parking lot at corner of Bell St & Bellport La, then ride your bike the 1/2 block over to the Kreb bike shop at 10 Bell St to sign-in for ride and hear the pre-ride briefing.
Happy to have the one and olny Lisa Valentin leading the A group on our Valentines Edition Kreb Ride!!! Way to go Lisa!!!!
I'm taking the B+/A group. We'll try to stay with the A's but split if it's too tough. Please download the map if you don't think you can keep up with the B+ pace or even if you can down load the map and have some fun with your Wahoo.
Heading to the Quogue Wildlife Refuge for a short break-bring snack and drink. Looks like the rain will be in the afternoon but check back for any changes which will be posted by 7:30 am.
NOTE: THIS RIDE HAS BEEN CANCELLED AS THE TEMPS ARE EXPECTED TO BE ABOVE 32F AT 9 AM ... ...DEFROSTING TRAILS CAUSES RUTS!
ES on the w/e makes for less commuter traffic ... Hopefully I have some company this time
South of the big log and down BJs Way (on the Intermediate trail) is damaged due to lots of ruts so I plan on doing the Advance trail ... BUT if an Intermediate rider shows we'll do the Intermediate trail heading north from the big log and jump over to the last 3 miles of the Advance when we do the last BD on the west side of the Intermediate.

Just back from a ski trip, so lets take an easy meander around Calverton and Manorville, with a good part on the bike path and the new extension back to the parking lot. If it is windy, this route will keep us on many roads that are not out in the open. We will take our break at Bean & Bagel, where you may snack and use the bathroom.

Heading north through Upper Brookville, Matinecock, Locust Valley & around. A quick stop TBD. On the return we ride through Lattingtown, Dosoris Island, Glen Cove, Old Brookville, N.Y.I.T. campus, Westbury Gardens & back to Post Rd. where we began. Approximately 1500 elevation gain. My cell 631 922-0632. We will tweek the ride depending on the cold & wind. Taking it at a slower pace, wait ups on hills. No bathroom at Westbury high school, but there is one just east on 25.
Well during this ride we'll eventually break through the freezing mark and thaw-out the tail feathers. If you're still cold, get closer to the flame: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuIi19U6UwM
Oh, where are we going? To Riverhead, for a quick bagel and coffee stop, and then back through the rolliing terrain leading to Deep Hole.

The weather held up, but something came up and I have to cancel, Sorry.
Let's see if the weather holds out for us. Looks good so far, but do check back. This will be a moderate C+/B- ride to Bean & Bagel. the stop is at mile 14. Any changes or cancellations by 8:30am.
UPDATE- 2/21/19 – 7:50am – I think the ride should be DELAYED until 12:30. This will give the roads a chance to dry and the snow to melt. Let’s see how it goes. Check back at 11:30 for any other changes, if needed.

After all the Mtn Biking I've forgotten how to spin ! This ride will head North-West into the wind and return with the breeze on our back.

Ah, 42, that mystical, wonderful number, and for today: the distance of the ride - more or less. (Let's face it, the Universe is fundamentally flawed; we couldn't get it to be exactly 42). The significance of 42 from the Magrathean Archive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aboZctrHfK8
We'll leave the Thunderbird home base at South Street School and ride almost the entire length of County Road 24, (backwards 42), down to Hampton Bays for a quick stop at the bagel store...sorry, but we won't be there for 42 minutes or order 42 bagels! We'll return along rolling terrain, that will include the Casa Basso and the Hart's Road Hump, and we'll have a new finishing segment.
Oh, and the predicted high temperature for today...42! (Wow!).
Mileage has been changed to 34 miles if winds are light. Moderate winds could reduce ride miles back to 30 miles. This ride goes along the scenic Peconic Bay with beautiful views along the way. Our break is at Braun's Sea Food, which has been around for decades and has great chowders, as well as seafood wraps and dishes. There is a bathroom, and picnic tables. Across their parking lot is Scoops and Grinds, where you can get coffee or ice cream for dessert. This ride is very weather dependent, strong winds or chance of rain can change the start time, or cause me to do an entirely different ride and ride start, or cancel the ride all together. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which will be posted by 08:00am.
We haven't used this ride start for awhile so while they are not charging yet I would like to take advantage of using it. We will go to Manorville and back. 40 miles but will shorten if the weather changes. Check for any changes the morning of the ride.
Saving Sunken Meadow for a later date. Heading east with a nice warm up on flats. We then hit the hills of Miller Pl., Mt. Sinai & into Port Jeff. The rest stop will be at Tiger Lilly's in Port Jeff. On the return, a mix of hills & flats. Taking it at an easy pace with wait ups on the hills & picking it up on the flats. My cell 631 922-0632. Park on the side of TJ Max.
Group ride going northbound on 51 to Riverhead. Then heading south to Westhampton and taking Old Country Rd. to get to 111. Loop around Manorville and Moriches via North St. Back to Eastport on CR80. Route link below so you can check it out. NO INTERVALS!! My goal is no stops ( unless nature calls or we get a flat)
Location: Sunrise Hwy south service rd. ( exit 61 ) or access through CR51 off of Montauk Hwy. Click Google maps link under location if needed.
Join me for this mid-day meander around Manorville and Calverton, with a good part on the bike path and the new extension back to the parking lot. If it is windy, this route will keep us on many roads that are not out in the open. We will take our break at Bean & Bagel, where you may snack and use the bathroom.
I am not using my road bike, so feel free to bring your hybrid or fat tire, if you have one. The ride will average 12 - 12.4, with cue sheets.
We have to watch the weather, it's supposed to be raining. If it doesn't we'll do a loop down to Bellport. Check back Sunday at 8:15am for the no or go.
The weather forecast for Sunday doesn't look very promising (wind and rain are being predicted) so be sure to check back on this post in case the ride is cancelled.
Otherwise, please join me for a quick ride to the beach bakery. The pace will be set by the group (and the ride leader strength) against the wind. If we work too hard, then I say let's go for the second jelly donut!
This ride has been pushed back to Thursday so we can enjoy the snow on the trail. We'll park at the REC Center and ride SOUTH through the SWR HS parking lot. The last time it snowed the crew that opened the BSP gate took 1 hour to "clear" the 1" of snow ;-( and we had to park outside the locked gate. ;-(
I'm planning doing the trail down to Rt 25 at which time we'll take a vote.
Check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Life Happens and Things Change.
