A purposeful high zone 1 / low zone 2 ride. Whoever is pulling at the time will keep it in their high zone 1 / low zone 2. I'm not interested in mph. Although this criteria should get us in with around a 17mph average--for those that are.

ALF is still alive and well (!), after undergoing some eye repairs. I'm just getting back on the bike, after a forced hiatus, so pace is going to be a little slower. We'll do a little pacelining, a few rollers and hopefully have some early season fun all together.
So, let's launch from the usual place and head out to Riverhead for some coffee and a bagel!
We will do some riding on the Grumman Tail and in Manorville, shoot up to Bean and Bagel, than up to Sound Avenue, and back to the lot we started from. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 08:00am.

..But at least there's some kind of atmosphere, and you'll have some friends! It beats being stuck inside listening to blaring music while someone sweats on you :)
So put on your winter riding kit and we'll take a ride out to Riverhead for a bagel, coffee or your choice. We'll hit Route 24, with a return through some rolling terrain, before we take the South River Road and back to Grumman Ave, and then back to base.

Easy pedal to the Town of Babylon with a stop at the deli for break. Please arrive 20 minutes before the ride start time and be prepared to leave at 9:30 AM.
The ride will be at an Intermediate level since I plan to have done Glacier Ridge the day before and riding two days in a row is a bit much for me.

Optional pizza after the ride. Looks like a sunny day but starting a little later so it can warm up a bit. Check back for any changes which would be posted by 7 am.
A steady 19 to 20mph for 57 miles. I would like to keep it in that cruising range as we will be riding a bit longer than usual--it's winter! We'll stop at Netties Bakery about 41 miles into the ride. The weather looks good. I hope to see you.
Something new! I haven't been to the Dolci Momenti Bakery but the reviews look pretty good. CVS is in the same lot.
We'll leave from the Holtsville Ecology Center and do part of Ron Goodstadt's Eco to Ridge Deli route, but cut it a little shorter. Since this ride isn't that long, we'll stop towards the end of the ride at the bakery, then have a very short ride back to the finish.
Off to Nettie's for great soup or wonderful baked goods. Nettie's has two indoor eating areas (one has a firelace), as well as an outdoor picnic table area. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 8:00am.
C ride to Netties Country Bakery for Lunch or snacks whatever there will be a few hills most of the roads will have very little traffic, no one left behind will adjust pace to whoever shows up my first ride in a long time so it will be slow with some go aheads.
We will ride around Belmont State Park Lake then taking the trail down to Babylon town dock. The trail can accommodate fat tire, mountain and cross bikes. Short hydration break at the dock or we can stop at the Delica Sea deli just before the dock if needed.

Today's’ route to Great River will change up a bit towards the end of the ride, if the wind is in our favor; making this route pretty flat except for 2 overpasses. We will go the usual route heading south using the Connetquot Park bike bath. We’ll work our way down to Heckscher Park, do a loop where one can stretch the legs a bit if desired.
The average pace for this ride will be between 14.0 & 15.0 +/- mph, or what conditions allow. The road speed will be between 15 and 17.0 mph, or slower if needed for safety concerns.
Please DO NOT PARK in the Meat Farms parking lot. Use the west side of the bank if the east side is full. Thanks!
We’ll be making a rest stop around mile 19 at the deli/bakery. The route back will be determined by the wind direction. Good Stuff after the Ride. Not sure what good stuff; it's always a surprise.
Any cancellations due to unforeseeable circumstances, or weather related problems will be posted by 8:00am. If you have any questions about this ride, or the start location, please call or text my cell, 631-484-3490.
This is the normal 31 mile loop out of Grumman. We'll make a quick stop at the Exxon on Edwards, then head towards CR 51 (wait at the light at the top), CR 111 (wait after we turn onto Halsey Manor) then head back to Grumman. Feel free to sprint through Grumman and on CR 111. Everyone can go at their own pace on CR 51 and CR 111.

We'll start out a little earlier and slower than Robin's group but try to do the whole thing or start with Robin's group and skip one or two diamonds. Hopefully we all finish together ... it worked well last week. If no one shows for this Intermediate level ride than I'll hang with Robin and I'll be the last to finish again! ;-)
No need to arrive 20 minutes early and cook in the car or freeze outside ... Please just be ready to ride at the posted start time! Running late? Call my cell # below and we'll wait a bit.
my afternoon plans require an early ride!! the trail less traveled...recently groomed and ready for some "bicycle love"..... rsvp if you plan to ride-~~~no rsvps=no ride

It's been some time since we've ventured into Area 51, to fight the winds and the alien riders with their otherworldly bikes. So let's get together at the South Street School, and go for a ride of either 31 or 36 miles, that will take us into the heart of Area 51. Along the way, we'll sneak through the Land of the Dimpled Ball - an old favorite road for us...
Take on the Aliens and Area 51: Challenge Accepted!
Good question the winter B- is slower do to the amount of clothing necessary we need to wear in order to keep warm, the winds are stronger, and not to mention we are all heavier. So come out and let's try to lose some weight we will average more than likely less than 15mph due to the facts just mentioned, plus we all haven't been riding regularily. We will take a break 1/2 way through the ride, and of course we will have a freshly baked desert by the "BAKER" with a little refreshments from CMM to keep our bones warm.
Please check back on website on Saturday morning, cancellation due to winter weather will be posted by 8:00am latest.
02/28/2020 – 10:10PM. The weather forecast for ride time is – temps 28, wind 14-15, and the wind chill 18-23. That being said, I’m just a sissy, and I’m staying home. Therefore the ride is CANCELLED. Tomorrow might be better; but not looking too good. We’ll just wait and see.
This morning it might be nice to take a ride through Bellport and Patchogue stopping for a break at Mickey D’s around mile 20. The average pace will be between 14.0 to 14.5 mph depending on the roads, wind direction, dew point, and other conditions. Naturally, the road speed will be higher (15 -16.5 mph.) to produce the average. Depending on the wind and the route back we might be +/- a mile.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00am if necessary. My cell phone number is 631-484-3490; call or text anytime if you have questions about this ride.
