This C+ ride of 18-25 miles will average 11.5-12.5mph. Bring snack/hydration as route depends on wind, tide, position of moon and ride leaders disposition. Newbies welcome and well taken care of and nobody gets left behind. Any cancellation will be by 8:30am. No need to text, email, phone, send message by carrier pidgeon or smoke signal me. Just show up 15-20 minutes before ride start to get your s**t together.
This ride has morphed into the Wings Cafe ride. Come join us as we make our way around Manorville and Calverton, on mostly quiet paths and roads. All and all, a neat 35 or so miles with some nice stretches of riding and the now special stop at the airport where we may see small planes or skydivers, but where we will stop for a bite at Wings Cafe (which is open on Thursdays).
Ride starts at 10:30 to get a bit more warmth into the day. Also given the wind forecast, the ride may be modified as to speed and/or distance.
Please bring any snacks you may want as well as sufficient hydration and some cash if you want to get something at Wings. Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore and discover.
To join the ride or if you have questions, please text Bill Mastro at 917-921-5358. I usually send the final ride file to those that text me. Any updates or weather issues will be posted to the ride listing by 7:00 on the day of the ride.
The SBRA February General Meeting (TRIVIA NIGHT) will be held as a "VIRTUAL" meeting, on Thursday, February 1st at 7:00 pm. We will be using Zoom as the conferencing software. You can download the free application and be able to join this virtual club meeting.

It's time for another adventure to Area 51, which includes Mill Road and that hill! But this time, we are going to do the climb up past the Shrine and ride up the Col de RCN. Along the way we will pass the dreaded mind-controlling alien antenna!
NOTE: We'll make the antenna hill optional; you can wait for us at the bottom of the hill and we'll see you when we return from the hill.
SO, what's the frequency Kenneth? https://youtu.be/jWkMhCLkVOg Come along and find-out, as we climb the infamous antenna hill in Area 51. This hill can be fustrating, as it hits 8%, so bring plenty of climbing gears for this ride!
As with other rides to Area 51, there will be no formal stop! But, we will have plenty of wait-ups, so no one will be left on their own! (It's Winter, so we will let people catch-up after any hills!). Again, the plan is to warm up and then stay warm without any stops..

I'm posting a B ride to give more SBRA members a chance to get a ride in as few on this level have been available lately. Also a chance for those like myself who plan on joining other rides this weekend not to burn ourselves out.

We might add a few extra miles, but that'll be determined the day of the ride. We'll stay within the c+/b- pace, probably finish at the upper c+ pace. No one is ever left behind. Please be sure your bike is road ready - pack hydration and snacks - the deli will be optional so please plan accordingly.

We will go the usual route heading south using the Connetquot Park bike bath. We’ll work our way down to Heckscher Park .I would like to keep the road speed between 16 - 17 mph and come in at an average 14 and 14.9. Its still cold out there and alot of riders have not been riding. Pulls always appreciated.

Calverton is probably one of the best places to learn how to Mtn Bike BUT you need a DEC Access/Parking Permit ... here's how to get one: https://www.sbraweb.org/node/6490 .
If you don't get an access pass you might want to park at the Vet's Memorial Park lot BUT call me so we know to wait at the trail parking lot.
CHECK BACK before leaving for the ride. It will be a Begineer ride with a number of stop/waitups and we will wait for the slowest rider ...
Text me at 631-988-6557 if you plan to ride with me and I will wait at the start if you're running late OTHERWISE if I don't hear from anyone, we may start early.

SO, let's leave The Maples parking lot, for a paceline ride out to the bagel place in Riverhead. The route will be flat to lightly rolling, so no big hills on this ride. We will head north on Edwards Avenue up to Sound Avenue, do a run down Twomey Avenue, before we head out through the fields to Doctor's Path and Riverhead. After the break we'll head around Peconic Lake to Grumman Boulevard and back to the start.

This ride might be delayed until 10 AM ... check back before leaving for the start ...I will post by 8 AM if delayed.
We'll adjust the route depending who shows (but I'd really like to do the South route in an easy fashion before the shorter Hilly SOUPER Bowl ride on Sunday ;-) ...

Not a race but just a bit faster than Mel's ride Saturday. We will leave before Mel at 8:55 am and ride out to Riverhead, Goldberg's Bagle shop for a short stop. Please download the route or at least review it so you are familar with the turns.
This week the Thunderbirds change things up with a lightly rolling terrain paceline ride out to Cupsogue Beach. Let's take advantage of the warm weather and get some endurance miles in!
On the way east, we will go through Eastport and do the downhill rollers passing the Casa Basso. Then it's on to Westhampton Beach; once we hit Dune Road - you are free to stretch your legs. After a quick look at the beach at Cupsogue, it's back to Westhampton Beach for a stop at the Beach Bakery.
The return takes us along the south shore and through Remsenberg and Eastport. But, save some energy for those little hills leading to the finish at Dayton Avenue School.
A Mel-O Saturday ride in Lee's absence. B+/A- winter pace. Cruise at 20. No surging please. We will ride out to Riverhead on the usual routes to Goldbergs Bagels on Main St in Riverhead. Hope you can attend.
The forecast for Saturday is for temperatures in the 50s, so get those legs back in action and come join us for a 35 mile ride with a stop for some of Nettie's wonderful treats. The ride incorporates a number of fun short rolling hills. Please bring hydration and most importantly an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore and discover.
If you have any questions, please text Bill Mastro at 917-921-5358. I also appreciate if you text me to let me know you are joining the ride. The Upper lot MAY still be closed ... park at the bottom unless the roadway up is open ... From the bottom lot we'll ride up the road and use the trail at the end of the ride.
This will be a MIXED trail ride ... From the upper lot we'll ride North-West across the field to the fire road that intersects the trail before the Out of Bound hills. We'll work on the hills and finish with some of the early BDs (and all those roots ;-( ). Ron's group will [probably catch us!

The Notorious Big Roads ride is back, with a new start location: Veterans' Memorial Park!
This will be a nonstop paceline ride, except for regroups after 51 Hill - so bring two water bottles and a snack. As an alternative, we can just ride the 6.5 mile loop around the old Grumman property, if conditions are too cold or windy.
As we did in the past, we'll keep onto the main roads that are more likely to have been plowed and cleared of snow. We'll do Grumman Blvd., Route 24 and then go up and down County Road 51, before we ride on home.
Thanks for the advice Ron! ... Note: Sorry for the indecision BUT Check back AGAIN as venue MAY change again to ? ...

Everyone rides together until the Area 51 Hill, then you are on your own. After the Hill, we'll do a regroup to get everyone back together. Then we ride together back through Manorville and back to the Park.
NOTE: To stay warm, this ride will be non-stop, except for a couple of regroups! So pack a couple of water bottles and some snacks to ensure you have the energy to finish.

Gonna keep it in the woods at East Setauket...especially after a fun night at Sonoma Grill. 9am start dialed back a little go till we get tired and maybe add some West Side of East Setauket.
Depending who shows maybe we'll do the Rt 112 loop and jump over to Glacier Ridge for the Darkside of the Moon and Eclipse before heading back to Overton. We'll skip some of the BDs after that.

The route will include Route 24 to Riverhead, then to County Roads 104 and 31. After the long rise up to the airport, we'll do a long run down to the Village of Westhampton Beach, where we'll have a rest stop at around 25 miles. This week's M.O.M. Ride will be at a B+ level. Lately most of my rides have been coming in at 17-18mph avg with cruising speeds of 17-21, so let's do that. Winter ride, steady pace with no surging and lots of enjoyment.
The above link has been updated to include the the latest edition of M.O.M. which is now 40.5 miles. If you have downloaded the old version (prior to 2/25/2024) you should delete it from your bike's computer and replace it with the route above (same route #). Questions, please call or text me at the number below. Thanks.

With March around the corner and Spring a little more than 3 weeks away the expected mid to high 40's temperature is a good opportunity to get out there and ride.

Since it's predicted to be a windy day, let's do another Tour de Manorville. We'll ride in and around the Pine Barrens and Manorviile, with a visit to Mill Road. We'll try to do this non-stop, except for a couple of regroups.
Since this will be a nearly non-stop ride, bring two water bottles and enough snacks to keep you fueled for 33 miles and some climbing. Don't worry abour being cold, the ride will keep you working and warm! Also, we'll never be too far from the start, so we can easily cut the ride short.
