Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride. PACE CHANGED TO A SOLID "B", just in case there are some riders who want to join us, but who may not be up to a full B/B+ pace!
Time to dust-off the bike and get riding with some Spring-like weather!
We'll leave The Maples and ride in a controlled easy paceline to Westhampton Beach. This will be a B ride where no one gets dropped; at this point in the season, the average doesn't matter! We will wait-up for riders after any difficult sections, where it's either windy or there is a hill!
Since it's predicted that the winds will go up as the ride is on the return loop; save your strength for the return loop.
Outbound we'll zigzap through Manorville with a visit to Florence Drive, before we hide from the wind heading through East Moriches, Eastport and Remsenberg.
After a stop in Westhampton Beach, we'll return via the Casa Basso and then head north to Old Country to cut across the wind. That takes us to a short section of Frowein and some roads cutting across the winds to Chapman Avenue and South Street to the finish on Silas Carter and Ryerson Roads.
Come join me at the Bellport Municipal Parking Lot.We will meander thru the South Shore. It is a C+B- ride, averaging 13-14 MPH. The cruising speeds will be 15-17 to get the average.
I will be riding my new recumbent trike.
I will wait-up whenever someone falls behind. No one will be dropped. If you want to join me please text me on my cell, 631-655-7801. I will let you know if you are in, or the ride is full. Please provide your name, SBRA, cell, and emergency numbers. Any changes to the ride will be posted by 7:30. The ride will be limited to 10 riders unless there is another ride leader joining me who wishes to split the ride. Once accepted onto the ride if you need to cancel for any reason please text me as early as possible.
Come in like a lion with a scenic ride to the Smithtown Beaches. About half of the ride is flat and half rolling. It understandable if you're not in hill shape so we will slow or wait as needed. Restrooms at the beaches are still closed so allow time to walk to the convience store across from the parking. Join us for one of our favorite old school slices after the ride (cash only). Park in the rear of the lot across from Little Vincent's.
Please contact me if you are joining this ride with your name, SBRA # and emergency phone number. If no one contacts me, I'll leave from home. My cell is 631-835-1454.
This ride is the same as the Flat St. James/Stony Brook ride of the past. It has been pointed out to me that there are two upgrades on the ride, so the name -- not the route -- has been changed.
This will be a SLOW C+ as I've been off the bike for weeks. We'll have a break at Dunkin' around mile 16.
Hope to have you join me as we start stretching those legs.
Overton is great as many of the BDs loop out andback to the Main. I'll do two or three BDs depending on who shows.
Text me at 631-988-6557 if you plan to ride with me and we will wait at the start if you're running late OTHERWISE we may leave the start when we are ready to ride!
Check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Life Happens and Things Change.
This will be a regular ride now through early fall.
This ride is hills 101. We ride to the Setauket lighthouse (where we have our snack) and back. There is no bathroom on this ride. Doing this ride over the weeks makes us stronger on hills and on the flats. We ride together on the flatter sections and when we get to the hills we take them at our own pace and meet up at the top. New hill riders are welcome. Any questions, please text me at 631-835-1454.
Please let me know if you're coming on the ride (text above). If there are no takers, I will leave from home. Hope to see a few SBRA'ers Tuesday. Any change or cancellation will be posted by 8am morning of ride.
