    New to SBRA

    Good day!

I just joined SBRA and I'm also a new road bike rider. I just bought my first bike in many years. Although I'm new to road biking, I'm fairly athletic and am confident i will pick it up very quickly and be able to ride at least with the average biker in short time. I live in the Setauket area and am looking for any suggestions anyone might have for me (people to rise with, routes, events etc).

I just bought a 2009 Specialized Roubaix Comp. I know its not top of the line, but I think it is a great starting bike. I did have my eye on a Specialized Roubaix Compact Competition, which was significantly more money. But this one, didnt have a scratch on it, is 61cm (i'm 6'3"), has shimano 105's all the way around. I bought shoes, a specialized helmet, a Yakima base rack system and Thule bike racks for my suv. I found a book called "short Bike Rides: Long Island." I have a new pair of bike shorts. However, because of my height and upper body size, I'm having a hard time finding any shirts or jerseys from the store that fit. I'm afraid to buy something online cause I can tell already that XXL in a normal shirt is not the same as an XXL in a bike shirt. I fear I will eventually be a 4XL in a bike shirt (weird).

ANyway, I'm looking to get as active as I can. So, if anyone in the area has a regular group that is willing to take me in and teach me everything I don't know. Which at this point is a lot. BUT, I do promise to be a very quick learner. Thank you
