NOTE:
Under the Ride Level details, the "Type: Road Bike" refers to the ride will be on paved roads (rather then off road trails). Although a Road Bike is suggested for Road Bike Type rides it is not required. Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride. This ride calendar is for club rides, club meetings, club event posts and shop rides only.
For Other Events in our area and off Long Island check out the "Other Rides & Events calendar" and the "Forums"
To go more quickly back or forward "several" months click the "Year" link here or at the top of page.
The weather prediction is for hot and humid, so bring plenty of water. The pace will be slower if needed, and the mileage can be shortened if the combination of heat and humidity is debilitating. Definitely check the ride calendar by 6:30 am for any changes, especially since there is always a chance of rain in this type of weather. Off to Wildwood with a deli stop just before the park. Wildwood has picnic tables and restrooms. Early start time to avoid the heat. For info., contact Bill Gravitz at 631-356-3036. Standard C+/B- pace, depending on wind, temp./humidity and rider ability. Check the calendar the day of ride for changes, which would be posted by 06:30 am.
Friendly pace line out to Cupsogue with a rest stop at Hampton Coffee.
Dear SBRA Members,
The management of the Manorville King Kullen shopping center spoke to several SBRA riders today (Aug. 4, 2016) in regards to bike riders parking in the shopping center. It was explained that the parking spots along Chapman Blvd. are for employees of the shopping center retailers. As such, it was requested that all bike riders park in the spots along the driveway near McDonald’s and the spots in that vicinity.
We ask that youplease adhere to their request or our use of the shopping center could be in jeopardy.
Today’s Mi Tierrita ride will be going to Smith’s Point. The route is mostly flat with a small incline here and there and of course the Woodside bigger incline. The average pace for the ride will be between 14.5 to 15.0 mph, depending on the roads, wind direction. The road speed will be between 15 and 16. mph.
We'll stop along the way for a pee break around mile 10. Don’t forget to bring a snack for the beach stop. Do you know what AGUAPANELA is? Come and find out; no googling allowed. PARKING: Use the area of the parking lot on the SOUTH side first.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 7:30am if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions about the ride or need directions to the start.
This is a scenic Bill Gravitz ride. We will ride out to Westhampton, do three miles on Dune Road, then head up to the Quogue Preserve. Our return will include a stop at the Beach Bakery in Westhampton. Bathrooms are available at the Preserve and the bakery. Standard C+/B- pace, depending on wind, road conditions and rider ability. No one left behind. Call my cell if you have questions or concerns.
A mostly flat ride from Stony Brook to Centereach for bagels. Mileage will be 20-22 miles depending on group. Bagels stop is about mile 13. Cancellation posted by 7:30am if necessary. Prior to ride you can contact me through this post; morning of ride my cell is 631-835-1454.
BMX practice rides start at 6 PM ... here's the site: http://www.shorehambmx.org/ for more information. I'm planning to bring my Mtn Bike in the car and maybe take a lap or two after our road ride. The regular BMX folks pay $6 for the practice session ... I'm hoping that the people who run the place give us a lap or two for free to gain our interest. If ALL (and it must be 'ALL') the SBRA riders show up with Mtn Bikes we will vote and maybe take a short Mtn Bike ride in Shoreham North instead of a road ride.
**** Suggestion: Since we're riding at 5 and watching the BMX until 8 ... you might want to bring some dinner to eat while watching the BMX riders. ****
Since this ride starts relatively late in the day ... if you have a headlight bring it along and rear flashes are also a good idea.
A lot depends on the weather ,,, so be sure to check back to this posting after 3 PM on Thursday. Call my cell if necessary ....
I"ll be at the ride start, ready to ride. Looks like the rain will hold off until the evening.
The shorter version of Coram to Cedar Beach, still a few good hills, still scenic. We'll have a brief rest stop at the beach. Bring $$ for organic, locally grown corn on the way home, if you wish. Any changes will be posted by 3 PM. Rain or heat and humidity will cancel. Call my cell with any questions.
