Rolling hills via Smithtown, Nissequogue, Head of the Harbor and St James to Stony Brook. Mileage includes West Meadow Beach. If really hot, 6 mile RT ride to the beach may be cut from ride. Return ride has fewer hills than ride out.
Off to Briermere's with a brief stop to see the American Bison (if they are out to pasture). Brieremere's has bathrooms and picnic tables, plus coffee, slushies and other goodies. Average speed will be 13.5-14mph. For info. call Bill Gravitz at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar by 06:30am day of ride for any changes. If you want to share a pie, bring singles and quarters.
We are going to Manorville with the extended loop on Mill. We stay together as group and everyone helps pull the ride. Our break is a McDonalds for food/etc.
Meet at the King Kullen parking lot in Manorville for a very scenic cruise out to Hampton Bays. Remember to park by the McDonalds. Route is basically flat with a few rollers in the beginning and end. We'll make a lunch/deli stop, either bring your own or purchase, around mile 35. I aim to average 13.5-13.8 mph with cruising speed 14-16 mph depending on wind, group, etc. Any changes to ride will be posted by 6:30 am. Call my cell if you have any questions.
Leave the Manorville King Kullen for a paceline run out to Briermere Farms. We'll ride through the Grumman property, before we head out along Sound Avenue to Briermere.
Short stop at Briermere, before we return along the south route.
Enjoy the near end of the North Fork. We'll go out as far as Peconic via New Suffolk with a stop at the deli in Cutchogue. On the return we'll go over the Northville hills from East to West and then stop for our just desserts at Briermere. Pace will be a relaxed B depending on the wind. My cell 646-643-6856
Some hills you know (NOT East Broadway) and perhaps some you don't on the road to and from Belle Terre. Snack/bathroom break at the CVS in lower Port. Changes or cancellation posted by 7:30am. Contact me prior to date via this post and on morning of ride at 631-835-1454.
Ronkonkoma to ?????? I'll make it up as we go. This ride should average 11.5 - 12.9 (depending on the wind, tide, position of the moon, as fast as the slowest riders, etc.), NO ONE LEFT BEHIND, NEWBIES ALWAYS WELCOME. Check ride calendar by 8:00am for any cancellations. Bring water & a snack in case route has to be changed due to heat/wind, ride leaders disposition.
PARK ON THE NORTHERN SIDE OF THE RR IN THE EASTERN MOST LOT.
You DO NOT have to be doing the century to go on any of these rides. Each week the ride will increase by 5 miles or so. By the time all training rides are completed I’m sure we will be able to do an easy 100 on a flat course, in Maryland, at a B pace. We may take turns at the front, this way you can enjoy the wind in your face and be the first to smell the roses or the road kill.
I know we did 51 miles last week due to the flooding on Dune road so, this week we’ll do 50 miles with some rollers here and there. I probably can’t work the wind as well as last week but there will be enough turns to give you a change of wind direction. The average will come in around 15 mph with road speeds between 15 & 17 mph. Faster riders will have their spots as well. The rest of the group will hang with me and the sweep. You are not obligated to do this; you can hang back with me and do a nice steady pace. No one gets left behind.
The plan for the upcoming weeks will be around 55, 60, 65, 70, and 65. This schedule will enable you do the 100 with no problems. If you personally feel you need to ride more than 70 miles that can be arranged also.
We will go to Manorville with one food stop at McDonalds or the bagel place and another pee stop along the way. I really suggest you bring 2 bottles filled with G2, Gatorade, Powerade or something with electrolytes in it.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 7:30AM if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions about this ride or need directions to the start.
