NOTE:
Under the Ride Level details, the "Type: Road Bike" refers to the ride will be on paved roads (rather then off road trails). Although a Road Bike is suggested for Road Bike Type rides it is not required. Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride. This ride calendar is for club rides, club meetings, club event posts and shop rides only.

We will be leaving Back of American in East Islip heading to Great River and into Heckscker park for a restroom break, if needed, and a loop around the park. Then we will head to Babylon Dock area. Restrooms are available at the dock around mile 17. Then its off to McDonalds for a short break at around mile 26.
This is a B ride with an average speed of 15 to 15.5mph, road speeds may reach 17-18mph. Check the ride calender for any changes posted by 6:30am day of ride.
Scenic ride out to Bellport travelling through Sayville and Patchogue. Quick rest stop in Bellport and then taking northern route back via Woodside/LI Ave/Johnson/Connetquot Ave. There are a few small hills along the way (Oakdale Merge area and Woodside) but nothing major. We'll have wait-ups after the climbs - no one gets dropped.
The average speed will be around 16.5mph and road speed may reach 20mph depending on weather conditions.
Let's celebrate Christine's birthday with a ride from the Sunshine Mall heading out to Manorville. This will be a slightly faster-paced and longer ride than the one Andrea has posted. But we'll also have a stop in Manorville, with the same goal as Andrea; wishing Christine a Happy Birthday! There will be some rolling terrain, some descents and birthday wishes.
Park at the bank at the Sunshine Mall - hopefully we won't have any issues over parking.
Since we always seem to miss the turn off River Road, let's remember that it's the turn at the red house onto Norwood Drive. Many famous race circuits have names given to their most memorable corners like Maison Blanche (White House) or Eau Rouge (Red Water), so we'll call the turn Maison Rouge (Red House). So, let's see if we make the turn :)
We will head north into Manorville then east into Calverton. Food/rest stop at the Bean & Bagel. Pace will most likely be on the low end of the B- range (13.0 - 14.0). Cancellation for any reason will be posted by 7AM on Saturday.
Depending on wind, tide and position of moon we will ride approx. 20 miles at an 11-12 average speed. Either going toward Bellport or Oakdale/Great River. As always newbies always welcome and NOBODY gets left behind. So get off your butt, put down the TV remote and lets ride for some exercise. Cancellation for any reason will be posted by 8am. Cookies at the rides end?
Make sure you have water, also bring a snack as the route is not set until I get there.
Park in lot on South Side of RR across from school field.
This is number 3 of the Seagull Century training rides. You don’t have to be doing the century to go on any of these rides. However, if you would like to know more about this century click on this link - (link is external)http://seagullcentury.org/ (link is external) (link is external) For some riders who did the century last year click on this link - (link is external)http://seagullcentury.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/SGC_Brochure_Final_17.pdf (link is external) (link is external) - to see if you are in the 2017 Seagull Century registration brochure group photo.
Now, let’s talk about the training rides. Each week the ride will increase by 5 miles; give or take. This way you won’t feel so bad when you eat that extra donut. By the time all the training rides are completed I’m sure you’ll be able to do an easy 100 miles on a flat scenic course. Since these training rides are a shared effort I would hope that riders would come forward and help in the pulling. During the weeks I am unable to ride Chris Musso will be taking my place and leading the rides.
This week I thought we would change it up a bit and go to Manorville. The route will take us northeast, then south, and finally southwest working our way back to the start. There will be one or two spots for some break-a-ways for those who wish to do so.
The average pace for the ride will be between 14.5 and 15.0 mph, depending on the roads and wind direction, the ride could come in a tad faster, meaning in the lower “B” range. The final mileage will be +/- a mile
Only one food stop this time, around mile 28 at McDonalds or the bagel shop
