This will be a controlled paceline ride, to make sure that we have the energy for the return into those West winds. Remember the racing phrase, "...to finish first, first you must finish!" Let's stay in control and stay alive for the finish! BTO and Little Richard: https://youtu.be/o_6MTM-Ljag
The route takes us through Riverhead and out along Peconic Bay. We'll have a quick break in Mattituck, and a food stop in Cutchogue. This will be a C ride, which will average 11.5 - 12.0, partly depending on the winds, the riders, etc. Since the exact route will be determined at the start, there willnot be a cue sheet for this ride. We will ride part of Dune Road (direction determined by the winds that day) and then take our break in Westhampton at the Beach Bakery, where bathrooms and food are available.
This ride is for Darlene's Birthday, so at the end of the ride we may go somewhere (Pizza, Triangle Inn for great burgers, JR's Steakhouse {LOL, inside joke}, etc.) for a quick bite to eat {at personal expense}.

We will ride around the scenic roads of Oakdale, a unique community steeped in Vanderbilt History.Shortly after crossing a wooden footbridge, we'll be taking our break on the riverside steps of Idle Hour, the former William K. Vanderbilt Estate. Unfortunately, it is the now defunct Dowling College and falling into disrepair. Continuing with the Vanderbilt theme we will be heading into the mews, also once part of the Vanderbilt Estate. The mews is such a fascinating pocket of History & Architecture that we will be sure to ride each and every road. Please bring water, spare tube, and a snack if you wish, to enjoy riverside.
