Come join for my first full century of the season. This is a very scenic ride with about 1,900 ft of climbing. I am planning to make 3 stops along the way (Mattituck, Orient and Cutchogue) for hydration, restrooms and lunch but this may change as "nature" calls. Avg speed should be between 16-17 mph with max cruising speed of 20, but this is always subject to change based on weather conditions.
Please pack proper hydration (at least 2 water bottles), food to eat along the way (Cliff Bar, trail mix, GU packs, etc), some $$ for lunch and a cell phone.
I will try to keep the group together and my intent is not to drop anyone. However, based on past experience, some riders may not be able to finish the full century for various reasons (muscle cramping, heat exhaustion, mechanical issues, etc.). In this case, please have a back-up plan to get yourself home (spouse, friend or Uber).
If anyone has questions, please call or txt me (347-922-3824).
I will be leading a B/b+ Metric. I am looking to enjoy the ride so I am looking to do a Mid B/B+ pace. I would like to get an idea of who is coming so if you wouldn't mind please text me. 631-747-3464.. Check back for any changes ...https://ridewithgps.com/routes/39589381
I don't feel up to doing 64 miles so am shortening the ride and starting it further out (no traversing Riverhead). We will go to Greenport for snack and then have ice cream in Mattituck on the way back. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/39768972
It will be a gentle B- because of the distance, we may even be a C+\B- depending on a lot of variables. This is a social ride not a race. There will be stops for views, photos, ice cream, etc. Please bring plenty of water and nibbles.
Because I don't like too many people in my groups please text me 631 331 5642 if you want to join the ride. Thanks.

Sorry, but as of 4:55 pm on Thursday THE RIDE IS FULL!
Changed to a C pace.
We will depart from Captree Boat Basin and make a stop at Tobay Beach, where bathrooms are available. Our "half-way" point of the ride will be at Jones Beach State Park, where we will take our break ans, again, bathrooms and snacks/beverages are available. The round-trip ride is just over 28 miles. Due to the fact that this is a "mulituse" path, with pedestrians, runners, and skaters (to mention a few) using it, I have changed this as a C ride, and our average should be 11.5 - 11.9. As usual, the pace may also depend on the winds, who is in the group, etc.
Park next to the greenway entrance in the west lot. If you are under 62 the parking fee is $8 - butfree if you arrive before 8AM (which is why I am starting the ride at 8:30); those over 62 are free (yea!).
NOTE: I am limiting the number of riders on my rides, so you must text me with your name, SBRA Member Number, and Emergency Contact Phone Number if you want to ride, I will return the text: YES, you have a spot; NO, ride is filled. CELL #: 631-523-2129.
I am posting this ride to see if there is any interest. You MUST contact me if you are interested in doing this ride (347-922-3824). If there is no interest, I may cancel or modify the ride.
The plan is to bike to Montauk from the Blue Point Brewery in Patchogue one-way and take the LIRR back home. Trains depart Montauk at 3:30pm and 5:37pm. There is also a 7:37pm but bikes are NOT permitted on this train.
I suggest riders bring two water bottles, some energy snacks for the ride and extra $$ for rest stops/lunch/train fare). We will make hydration/rest stops approximately every 20-25 miles. Depending on when we arrive in Montauk (and what shape we're in when we get there - lol) we can discuss options, Extend ride out to lighthouse and make it a Century, sit-down lunch in town, Gosman's Dock, etc.
Pls note that the LIRR has the right to limit the number of bikes they allow on each train (there are NO guarantees); however, I’ve done this ride many times and never had a problem.
Too Lazy to deal with 19 mph wind ... So into the woods for me ... I'll ride at the rate of the slowest rider who shows up ... UNLESS they're faster than me ;-) ... Will do only diamonds that are Intermediate level ...
Contact me (text or call) at 631-988-6557 if you plan on showing.
NOTE 1: Since organized rides on multi-use trails have NOT previously have been posted I am limiting this ride to five other riders. If you want to be on this ride you must contact me at 631-988-6557 (text or call) or email at [nsamuels@optonline.net].
NOTE 2: The Ride Start has been be moved to the west end trail head of the North Shore Rail Trail ... one mile less in each direction on the road.
Only ~10 miles of this ride will be on the road! The North Shore Rail Trail is not flat and neither is the southern leg of the Calveton (Grumman airfield) trail. Come explore these two bike paths.
R & R planned to be at the Bean & Bagel. If you have anything left at end of the ride you can do the hills of the Setauket Greenway trail as a "bonus".
You must let me know you're planning to do this ride ... text me at 631-988-6557.
Check back to this posting as I will post the RideWithGPS link later this week and always good to check back anyway as Life Happens and Things Change!

We will then head to Bevin rd with its wonderfully restored Historic Victorian Bevin mansion along with many architecturally interesting homes. On our return trip we will retrace our route with further exploration of "The Pit."
