This will be a mixed terrain ride, some road, some gravel, singletrack, doubletrack, fireroads, and sand. No official rest stop planned, but we will take breaks as needed. Not really recommended for tires less than 35mm in width. Liz and I are using 58's, wider is definitely better. (Course will be somewhat different than last year) This ride is great for mountain bikes, gravel bikes, fat bikes, and everything inbetween. Rode the route on 9/18 and everything was in good shape.
We will be riding on lots of multi-use trails, we will be considerate of others.
Please take tick precautions, use whatever works for you, bring a spare tube, be sure to have water and a snack or two.

Weather looks perfect for a ride out to Montauk on Sat. Forecast shows full sun, relatively warm temp and a favorable SSW 5-10mph wind as I write this post on 10/18. This will probably be my last ride out to Montauk for the season so who's interested in joining me??? Route is very very scenic and was designed with safety in mind (I try to avoid Montauk Hwy whenever possible). Have a look at the route below. I'm estimating ride will be on the lower end of B+ pace but this is always subject to weather conditions. This ride is about endurance and not speed. We need to save some energy for the hills in Montauk. No one ever gets dropped. Wait-ups whenever needed.
Plan is to bike from the Blue Point Brewery (BPB) in Patchogue to Montauk one-way and take the LIRR back to Patchogue. Train station in Patchogue is 1/2 mile from BPB. Trains depart Montauk at 3:30pm and 5:37pm.
I suggest riders bring two water bottles, some energy snacks/food for the ride, cell phone, extra $$ for rest stops/lunch/train fare and possibly a bike light for anyone contemplating taking the later train. We will make hydration/rest stops approximately every 20-25 miles. Depending on when we arrive in Montauk (and what shape we're in when we get there) we can discuss options. For example, if timing gets tight and you need to make the 3:30pm train, riders can opt out the loop to the lighthouse and Montauk Harbor which will cut off about 15 miles and about an hour of riding (see RwGPS route below). For riders who would like to spend more time in Montauk after the ride, we can discuss lunch options and possibly a quick celebratory pint at Montauk Brewery.
Pls note that the LIRR always reserves the right to limit the number of bikes they allow on each train (there are NO guarantees); however, I’ve done this ride many many times and never had a problem.
We will be leaving the bank heading to Babylon. Our rest stops will be at the Dock and Islip Beach. Please bring snacks and drinks for this ride. This is a B ride that will average around 15.5 mph with road speeds that will reach 17 to 19 mph.
If you have any questions call or text Mike at 516 448-8545.
Park in the overflow lot across from the RR station for a mostly flat ride to Bellport for our break. check for any changes which would be posted by 7 am. contact me if you have any questions.
This will be a mild ride. Mileage could be less. No offcial stop planned, so bring plenty of water and snacks. It will mainly be off road, expect singletrack, doubletrack, some sand, gravel, and some road. You might have to dismount in a couple of places for obstacles. I highly recommend wider tires, 40mm and wider. Gravel, mountain and Fat Bikes are welcome. No one gets dropped. Please contact me if you have any questions.
Ride originally listed for Friday was changed to Saturday. Off to Nettie's, with outdoor seating areas and indoor bathrooms. To join this ride, text Bill G. at 631-356-3036 with your full name and date of ride. Check for changes the day of the ride, which would be posted by 07:45am.
Today's’ route to Great River will change up a bit towards the end of the ride - if the wind is in our favor; making this route pretty flat except for 2 overpasses. We will go the usual route heading south using the Connetquot Park bike bath. We’ll work our way down to Heckscher Park, do a loop where one can stretch the legs a bit if desired. Pulling is appreciated! I would like to keep the road speed between 17 & 18 mph and come in at an average between 15 and 16.

This is an A- paced ride. Early Birds is a faster ride. It starts at the Manorville King Kullen at 7:30. Our ride at 9:00 should be a brisk pace club ride not the Shoot Out at the OK Corral. If you find yourself pulling above 24 you're probably going too fast.
Off to Nettie's for a treat ( without a trick). Netties now has soup with a roll if you don't want cake. This bakery has a great outdoor eating area, and indoor bathrooms.
