Let's take a ride to Briemere Farms and the Utility Muffin Research Kitchen for a muffin or two...
With the predicted heat and humidity, I'm scaling back the pace. I'm also cutting the distance for this ride with a new route.
For this ride, the route will take us down Route 24 and then out onto the North Fork. We'll get just within sight of the Adirondack Chairs, before we head up to Briermere Farms for a stop at around 16 miles. The return takes us back through the farms and back the entire length of Grumman Blvd. and up Wading River Rd. to the finish.
This will be a B- ride. Expect an average between 14.5-14.9 In order to get this average the road speeds will be between 14.5 and 16.5 mph. Going downhill, or with the wind at your back will be faster. The main objective is to finish the ride without being too concerned about the average. The average will depend mainly on the wind, the hills, and who shows up. We will stay together and there will be one or two break-a-ways for those who want. We will take a break at the Beach and a rest stop at Wertheim about mile 10. Pulls would be appreciated.
If you have any questions or concerns please text me at 631.484.3490. Should there be a cancelation, or change it will be posted by 7:00am.

Come and find out. Pulls are always appreciated.

We will not be making a stop to buy lunch during the ride, but there will be a number of stops along the way, so please bring food you may want or need as well as sufficient hydration. Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore and discover.
If you have questions, please text Bill Mastro at 917-921-5358. Additionally, I usually forward the final ridewithgps route to those that text (I am always tweaking routes). Any updates or weather issues will be posted to the ride listing by 7:15 on the day of the ride.

This time we'll head out through the farms and onto the North Fork. We'll ride past Briermere and visit The Tanks (cue sinister music). Then it's a 4 mile run to Mattituck for a stop at the bagel shop at around 22 miles.
Lets try to get a ride in before the rain the rest of the week. Ride to Strongs Neck, Old Field and West Meadow Beach. Rolling hills-nothing terrible. Waitups if needed. Should be back by 745 at the latest.
This is an A+ ride out of Yaphank, we do our best to work as a team and not drop anyone. Skip this ride if you are not up to a full "A+" ride, or if you want to go faster than the group. As usual this ride will have a higher or lower adverage speed depending on factors including wind, number of riders, and who those riders are. This has been a fast fun ride in the past; I'd like to keep it that way.

Come join us for the East End Ride series, this time with a concentraion on water views and beaches through parts of the Hamptons. We will head out on a journey that includes beautiful riding, amazing vistas, beaches, some incredible homes (and quite a number of absoulte monstrosities), a few dead ends where we can ohh and ahh, a hidden cove and did I mention water views. Weekday Southfork rides, like this one, start at 10:00 AM at the Hampton Bays LIRR train station (there is free parking) to avoid the morning trade parade traffic jam that exists during the morning rush beyond Hampton Bays.
Overall, we will be running much of the ride as more of a tour, enjoying the scenery, surroundings and views; nonetheless, riders should be able to maintain at least 15-16 mph on the flats when necessary (like our interludes on Montauk Highway). Our Hampton riding ends at the East Hampton train station, where we will take the train back to Hampton Bays. Train ride is supposed to be a bit over 30 minutes. Please bring a bungee cord to hang your bike.
We will not be making a stop to buy food during the ride, so, please bring lunch, snacks and sufficient hydration. We will make a few stops where one will have time for a quick snack or sandwich, but we will have an eye to make sure we make our return train. Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore and discover.
To join the ride or if you have questions, please text Bill Mastro at 917-921-5358. Registraion may have to be limited, as we don't want to overwhelm the train on the return trip. I will share the final (I'm always tweaking) ridewithgps file with those who contact me. Any updates or weather issues will be posted to the ride listing by 7:30 on the day of the ride.
Please call or txt if you plan to join (347-922-3824).
Exploratory trip to Connecticut to check out roads for the 150 mile ride on Aug 22nd. Catching the 7:30am ferry to Bridgeport. We'll ride from Bridgeport to New Haven exploring roads that hug the coastline. While in New Haven, I would like to ride through the campus of Yale University. We'll then continue east for a bit (perhaps to Guilford) and then return to New Haven where we'll catch a Metro North train (similar to LIRR) from New Haven back to Bridgeport.
Pack sufficient nutrition and hydration for the trip, however, I do plan to make stops every 20-25 miles. Bring $$ and/or cc for ferry, train, lunch, etc. R/T ferry is $39 for adult and $28 for seniors (60+). Metro North train is about $4 (one-way).
Parking: Parking in Port Jeff can be challenging. There are a few options but I found a free parking lot off Barnum Ave (cross street in Caroline Ave). Less than 1/4 mile to ferry.
Should there be a cancelation, or change it will be posted by 7:30am.

Then, after the food stop, we'll head back west along a more direct route, following Montauk Highway and Old Country Road, back to Eastport.

I'm hoping for a C+/B- average, but this will be a 'B' effort. Several scenic gulp and goes with a break at Ralph's Fishing Station. Call if you have any questions. A ride to Manorville..... If it doesn't rain. Looking for the average speed to come in the low 17s. Short break to be determined tomorrow. Cross your fingers and keep an eye out for a rain delay or cancellation. The idea is to sneak in some miles between the rain drops.
Friendly "A" paced ride out to the nice Exxon station, where you can get a slice of 7-11 pizza or a hot dog and a Gatoraide (at your own personal expense). Friendly means we will stop for mechanical issues, regroup where needed, and make efferts to ride as a team within the parameters of the A guidlines. This is the short and sweet version of the Firehouse 54. Download the route below.
Weather Bummer! Ronnie will lead this ride! Click "Read More" and see the picture below ;-( ... Ronnie may not do the Panamoka extra but maybe next time for me. Regardless, enjoy the ride and Ride Safely.

Adding a few miles to go around 3/4 of Lake Panamoka with its short rollers. We'll dismount to exit the lake road and get back on the usual route to Panera Bread in Riverhead. A few other changes to the typical route: a new quick break point after Edwards Ave and also exiting Panera in a safer manner, can be exprected.
This time we'll do a slightly changed route, to avoid some of the road work that's going on in the area...
So, lets meet at The Maples lot for a run out to Briermere Farms. We'll head out east through the farmlands, and have a Briermere stop at around 18 miles.

Attention Long-haulers - here comes another adventure ride. Plan is to ride along the north shore of LI from Port Jeff to Orient Pt. We'll take 25A and Sound Ave most of the way to save time on the LI side (we've all seen these LI roads before). I would like to shoot for the 9:30am ferry from Orient but there's a 10am just in case (after the 10am, ferry runs every hour). Once we arrive in New London, we'll ride along the south shore of CT all the way to Bridgeport and then take ferry back to Port Jeff. Quick 5-7 min stops approx every 25 miles. To save some time, I suggest we grab a "meal to go" (2nd breakfast or very eary lunch) at Orient Country Deli and eat on the ferry. Food is also available on the ferry but it's about twice the price. I suggest everyone bringing a small string bag so you can safely carry your lunch to the ferry (4 miles).
Depending on time, I would like to make another food stop in CT (they also have a few Breweries along the way too). They say some of the best pizza in the USA can be found in New Haven (Sally's, Frank Pepe and Modern). I had take-out from Frank Pepe on Thurs and it was delish!! We can talk about it on the ferry.
Free parking close to the ferry at the Barnum Parking Lot (corner of Barnum Ave & Caroline Ave).
Orient/New London Ferry: One-way Adult $22 plus bike $12
Bridgeport/Port Jeff Ferry: One-way Adult $23; Senior $20 (60+); no-charge for bikes
Bridgeport Ferry Departures: 6:15pm, 7:15pm, 8:15pm, last ferry 9:15pm
Pls note: RwGPS route shows 164 miles; however, that includes trip over the water on ferry. We actually may need to add about 4-5 miles in CT to make the 150 target. I also a buffer plan if for some reason we're running late. We can cut off about 30 miles at the end if we need to. MetroNorth (same MTA network as LIRR) runs a train about every hour from New Haven to Bridgeport (4 stops /28 mins / Audult $4 and Senior $2 / no-charge for bike).
We will be leaving the Senoir Center and head to North Fork for a 40 mile ride + maybe a few more. Final route to be determined. Our turnaround point will be aroud Horton Lighthouse. We have a few restroom breaks along the way, and our food will be around mile 27. Please bring snacks & drinks for short breaks before and after our food stop.
The ride will be at a (B- pace) with an average speed of around 14.5 to 15 mphand road speeds that will reach 16 to 19 mph.
Please Note: Our road speed/average will depend on rider ability and wind conditions.
If you have any questions text or call Mike 516 448-8545.

We will be leaving EI BOA we will be heading to Bellport and returning to EI for a 33-36 mile ride. Our food/restroom break will be around mile 18/20 in Bellport. The ride will be at a (B - pace) with an average speed of around 14.5 to 15mphand road speeds that will reach 16 to 18 mph.
If you have any questions text or call Mike 516 448-8545. Changes or cancelation will be posted by 7:30am day of ride.
This will be a B- ride. Expect an average between 14.5-14.9 +/- a tad. In order to get this average the road speeds will be between 14.5 and 16.5 mph.
Should there be a cancelation, or change it will be posted by 7:30am.
This C+ ride of 18-25 miles will average 12-13mph. Bring snack/hydration as route depends on wind, tide, position of moon and ride leaders disposition. Newbies welcome and well taken care of and nobody gets left behind. Any cancellation will be by 8:00am. No need to text, email, phone, send message by carrier pidgeon or smoke signal me. Just show up 20 minutes before ride start to get your s**t together.
I'm going to have to cancel - had my flu and covid shot yesterday, feel like a wet rag!
Meet in the back of the car park for the trail. The trail head is at the traffic lights just south of Port jeff LIRR.
We will stop at Ralphs fishing station on the Cedar Beach road. Hopefully it will still be open so we can get a coffee and or breakfast roll.
A fairly flat ride except for the climb out of Cedar Beach. We'll return using the rail trail.
Since I won't have my car I would appreciate knowing if anyone is joining me. Please text 631 331 5642 If I don't hear from anyone by Wednesday evening I will probably cancel so check before you leave.
Park in the rear of the lot across from Little Vincent's. The ride starts and ends with a long flat section. We'll cruise at a brisk B-on the flats, slower and patient on the climbs so this is a good ride if your nervous about some hils. We'll visit Smithtown Beaches with restroom/water breaks (briong snacks). Join us after for arguably one o LI's best slices (cash only). Lights are reccomended just in case!

Meet at The Kreb Cycle in Eastport for a rolling paceline ride that takes us to Cupsogue Beach on Dune Road. The pace will be a little easier, so we save our legs for the big weekend rides!
Oops, it's Jimmy Buffett Day, so be extra careful and be on the lookout for Landsharks (both bottled and walking)! Wear a bright jersey and be ready for anything! https://youtu.be/tNrM7DnYz4Y
The details:
Once we leave Eastport and head through Remsenberg, we'll take the Beach Lane bridge to Dune Road, where you are on your own to Cupsogue! After a quick stop at Cupsogue at 13 miles, we return on Dune Road, where we stay together and go carefully over the Jessup Lane bridge. Then it's Old Country Road, with the treat of Speonk-Riverhead Road and CR 51, and back to the finish!
NOTE: We'll take it easy over each bridge and regroup when we hit landfall, so no one is pressured into riding over their head on the bridges!
Time to get some miles in for those late season century rides! Meet at the Veterans' Park in the old Grumman Site for a paceline ride out to Cutchogue.
The pace will be a high B/B+, but we will keep everyone together! The predicted winds are from the East, so it will be critical that everyone stays in the paceline, since we'll be pushing East into the wind for half of the ride ! BUT, that means we get a tailwind push home!
The route :The east leg takes us out past Briermere, up to The Tanks and out Sound Avenue to the farm fields. We turn around and head west on Bridge Lane for a food stop in Cutchogue at 31 miles. After the stop, we continue west along Peconic Bay to Riverhead, then up Route 24 and back to the start.
We will be leaving Oakdale RR and head to Bellport and returning to Oakdale for a 32 mile ride. Our food/restroom break will be around 17-18 miles in Bellport. The ride will be at a (B - pace) with an average speed of around 14.5 -15 mphand road speeds that will reach 16 to 18 mph.
If you have any questions text or call Mike 516 448-8545. Changes or cancelation will be posted by 7:15am day of ride.

Ride to Smith Point for Lunch. Bring Lunch, snacks or take your chances at the snack bar. We will have a deli stop for lunch pick up or water/restrooms. but you'll need to carry your food another 8 miles to the beach.
Bay and Sound views on this beautiful route from Greenport to East Marion through Orient Village to Orient State Park. There's a bathroom at the start. And again at mile 17. Food at the Orient Country Store at mile 23. No rushing here. It's a tour to take in the East End's stunning scenery.
