This C+ ride of 18-25 miles will average 12-13mph. Bring snack/hydration as route depends on wind, tide, position of moon and ride leaders disposition. Newbies welcome and well taken care of and nobody gets left behind. Any cancellation will be by 8:00am. No need to text, email, phone, send message by carrier pidgeon or smoke signal me. Just show up 20 minutes before ride start to get your s**t together.
We will be doing a scenic ride through Eastport, Remsenburg and Westhampton Beach. The average pace will be between 14.5 and 15.0 mph. +/- depending on the wind, road conditions, geese, ducks, squirrels, and rabbits. Road speed will be between 15 & 16.5mph. Pulling is always appreciated. You know the drill.
There will be a short break-a-way along Dune Road; we will not be going to the big bridge. If its too windy on Dune Road the ride will be cut short by 2 miles.

There are 2 things for sure about this ride: it's scenic and it's hilly. Climb at your own pace, wait ups at the top of each climb. I'm hoping for a C+/B- average, but this will be a 'B' effort. You'll be back in the parking lot by 10:45am, in time for your BBQ

Please join us for this IN PERSON meeting for a chance to see some of your fellow SBRA members that you may not have seen for a while.

Guest Speaker: SBRA Member, Fred McKenna will be the guest speaker at the September 5, 2024, SBRA general meeting. This one-of-a-kind experience starts in New York City, goes through some of the most scenic parts of New York State and ends at one of the natural wonders of the world: Niagara Falls. Fred will talk about the ride itself and focus on “Why We Ride,” showing how the funds are being used.
Try it, you'll like it. You've worked your butt off this summer and are at your peak fitness, lets get out and see how it goes. We start out as a group, there are wait-ups at the abandon restaurant (now a brewery), and the Cutchogue deli. There is no upper limit, posted as a AA we try to do the best we can; if that's an A or A+ pace that's fine. This is a full drop ride, so bring your friends and equals to ride with as the group will break up on or before 51 & 111. Fast and Fun!
JUST TO CLEAR THINGS UP; THIS RIDE IS NOW LISTED AS MULTI, ALL "A" LEVEL RIDERS ARE WIELCOME THERE IS NO UPPER LIMIT TO SPEED SO AA IS A POSIBILITY AS WELL AS A+, A AND A-. PASS THE WORD AND BRING FRIENDS THAT YOU CAN RIDE WITH. THE PACE SHOULD BE TEMPO WITH A FEW SPRINTS.REGROUPING AT THE COUTCHOGUE DELI FOR A BIT LONGER OF A BREAK. THE MORE RIDERS THE MORE FUN.
We meet at the east end of the Long Beach Boardwalk at Neptune Blvd. This route will go Long Beach Boardwalk (BW), Atlantic Beach (BW), Far Rockaway (BW)... then we'll board a 10:15am NYC Ferry from 108th Street in Far Rockaway and disembark in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. From there we ride back along the Belt Parkway Bike Path, under the Verrazano Bridge, then onto some city streets to Nathan's in Coney Island for the official pitstop.
From there... the ride continues back through Coney Island, Sheepshead Bay, Belt Parkway Bike Path, over the Marine Bridge, the Far Rockaway Boardwalk from beginning to end, Atlantic Beach Bridge to Long Beach Boardwalk and done.
Although posted as a B/B+ this will be a somewhat casual ride. The moving pace will be in the 16-18 mph range when possible... which will be off-set substantially by much slower riding on boardwalks and some city streets. The "hills" are mostly bridges (which can be challenging for people who don't like heights), but most of the route is dead flat.
The NYC Ferry has an 8-10 bike limit. If we have too many bikes to fit on the ferry… then we ride straight to Nathan’s and return via Howard Beach back to the Rockaways. That route would be more like 50 miles of riding. Here's the link to that route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/25421733
This is an RSVP ride. I would like to know as early as possible if
I have no set time frame for how long the ride will take, but we should be back in Long Beach by 3-3:30pm. This is a no drop ride and wait-ups (if necessary) will be no problem. The speed of the group will be adjusted down to the speed of the slowest rider. Just bring your best bike handling skills and don't get freaked out by some riding on busy city streets. There are restroom options all along the way. Bring plenty of snacks, gels, and water.
Questions? Concerns? Feel free to text me....
Remember to RSVP: Please text me in advance if you plan to come. Include your name and SBRA Member ID and I'll sign you in.
The threat of wet weather will make me cancel this ride and reschedule.
Let's take an early September Saturday morning and head out to the East End to explore the magical beauty and excellent riding on Shelter Island, an island without a traffic light.
The ride will be about 36 miles and provide an overview of the island. We will stop at various points to enjoy special views and some unusual attractions. We will keep a steady pace, but won't rush, allowing us to enjoy the scenic vistas. Please note, Shelter Island is flat, rolling and hilly in many places, usually short hills, but somewhat frequent hills (some with real grades) that are mostly fun with some excellent downhills. Everyone will take the hills at their own pace and we will compress to allow the group to catch up.
We will meet at the Greenport LIRR parking lot and head over to the ferry to Shelter Island at 9:30. Please arrive early to give us time to gather. Bathrooms are available at the ferry terminal on the Shelter Island side. The ferry is $6.00 in cash for a round trip for you and your bike (make sure to get and save your round trip ticket). The fee is paid on the ferry.
IMPORTANT Please eat a good breakfast and bring substantial snacks and plenty of hydration. Also, please bring a sandwich or something for lunch, as we will not be making an indoor food stop. Near the end of the ride, we will stop by our place on Shelter Island. There will a short period of hanging out on our deck and we will have some additional snacks and drinks for all. Afterwards, we will make our way back to the ferry via a 3 mile route with some amazing views and homes.
Please let me know you will be joining us, by texting me at 917-921-5358, so I can judge how many folks will be on the deck. Also please bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore. I will share the final (I'm always tweaking) ridewithgps file with those who contact me.
Roosevelt Island 59th Street Bridge East Side Promenade Randalls Island Yankee Stadium Macombs Dam Bridge Harlem River Bike Path Hudson River Bike Path South Street Seaport Willamsburg Bridge Pulaski Bridge Gantry Plaza State Park
The route is about 42 miles with about 900 ft of elevation. A 42 mile city ride with stops for sightseeing and photos can be a longer day than you might expect. I hope to be back at the cars by 3pm. Here's a link to the route:
Bring snacks and gels. There will be a rest stop somewhere along the way.
Obviously… not your typical "club ride". It's more like a day-long adventure ride. I'm very selective about the roads/paths I choose. Most will have a designated bike lane. A few will not. Some bicycle paths will have bumpy segments. I always use my back-up "rain" road bike with 28mm tires.
This is a B/B+ ride ... not so much for the speed, but more for the hills (bridges) and the general confident bike handling skills required to navigate a variety of advanced cycling situations.
This is also an RSVP ride. Contact me (text) in advance if you plan to come. Provide me with your SBRA Member # and I'll sign you in.
If you need an address for your GPS to find the start location, then use 42-25 Vernon Blvd, Queens, NY 11101
Feel free to text me with your questions or concerns.
Join me for a big loop around Queens. The route is about 40 miles with about 1100 ft of elevation.
The route features:
Flushing Promenade Astoria Park Roosevelt Island Gantry Plaza State Park A short leg into Brooklyn World's Fair Grounds Kissena Velodrome Kissena Park Bike Path Vanderbilt Motor Pkwy Bike Path Cross Island Parkway Bike Path
A 40 mile city ride with stops for food, sightseeing and photos can be a longer day than you might expect. I hope to be back at the cars by 3pm.
Bring snacks and gels. There will be a bagel stop in Long Island City around the 20 mile mark.
Obviously… not your typical "club ride". This will be much more of a "tour ride". I'm very selective about the roads/paths I choose. Many will have a designated bike lane... a few might not.... but on the brightside... there are no bridges. Of all the city rides I put together, I think this one feels the most adventurous.
This is a B/B+ ride ... not so much for the speed, but for the general confident bike handling skills required to navigate a variety of advanced cycling situations.
This is an RSVP ride. Contact me (text) in advance if you plan to come. Provide me with your SBRA Member # and I'll sign you in.
(Just for your 411... I'm finalizing at least another two city rides probably Oct 6th and maybe the 13th or 20th)
