This is number 8 of the SEAGULL CENTURY training rides. You DO NOT have to be doing the century to go on any of these rides. The ride will be about 71 miles. We shall continue to build up our endurance slowly without killing ourselves, just pushing for a little more mileage. The route today will be similar to training ride number 6 and flatter than last week’s ride. The ride will start out in Holbrook, working its way up through Manorville, into Calverton, and a little further Northeast, not in the direction of the wagon trains, but in the direction where the buffalo might roam. Around mile 26 there will be a stop at Bean & Bagel for food and the necessary bodily functions. Also, keep an eye out for the famous landmark of The Big Kahuna. Continuing Northeast we shall look for the buffalo before heading back to Holbrook. On the way back there will be a second stop at McDonalds around mile 49. This puts a rest/food stop about every 20 miles which is what the Seagull Century is slated to have; and you thought we knew how to eat.
The average pace for this ride will be between 15.0 & 15.7 mph (you’ve done it before) +/-, depending on the wind and other factors which could change the average. The road speed will be 15-17.5 mph to produce the average. There will be a leg stretch here and there for those who desire; what the heck, a pace line here and there as well.
Give the ride some thought and come out with your fellow riders and have some fun! Hopefully, our resident baker LYNN will be able to attend, and once again grace our table with her delectable baked goods which make the entire ride worth it! Other supplies after the ride; working on it.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 6:30AM if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions about this ride. If rain is scheduled for Sunday this ride will be moved to Saturday and Saturday’s ride will be cancelled.
