This will be the start of the Seagull Century training rides. You don’t have to be doing the century to go on any of these rides. However, if you would like to know more about this century click on this link - http://seagullcentury.org/ For some riders who did the century last year click on this link - http://seagullcentury.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/SGC_Brochure_Final_17.pdf - to see if you are in the 2017 Seagull Century registration brochure group photo.
Now, let’s talk about the training rides. Each week the ride will increase by 5 miles; give or take. This way you won’t feel so bad when you eat that extra donut. By the time all the training rides are completed I’m sure you’ll be able to do an easy 100 miles on a flat scenic course. Since these training rides are a shared effort I would hope that riders would come forward and help in the pulling. During the weeks I am unable to ride Chris Musso will be taking my place.
The first ride will be the one I did a few weeks ago; chowder/desert. It’s a scenic ride through Eastport, Remsenburg, Westhampton Beach and points east. The wind direction will determine the route to be taken. If we have a westerly wind we’ll use Dune Road as part of the route; great for those break-a-ways. If the wind doesn’t cooperate we’ll use the inland route which is different, but just as nice.
The average pace for the ride will be between 14.5 and 15.0 mph, depending on the roads and wind direction, the ride could come in a tad faster, meaning in the lower “B” range.
We’ll be making a rest, food, and bathroom stop at Tully’s around mile 22 for some great clam chowder or other stuff. Peddle for another 10 miles or so and we stop at the Beach Bakery for desert. After that, another 7 miles and training ride one is "under your belt". If this all sounds like fun, it is, come out and join us.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute changes which will be posted no later than 7:30am. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call or text if you need additional information about the ride, start location or the Seagull Century…Thanks
