Let’s go to Islip on this New Years Day for a short 23 mile ride. We will use a similar route like the Great River 28 going around Connetquot Park and taking a deli break about half way through. There will be a short leg stretch on the way back if needed. The route is mostly flat with 2 little hills; maybe 3. The average pace for this ride will be between 14.5. & 15.0 mph, depending on the wind and other factors. The road speed will be 15-17 mph to produce the average. After the ride cookies and whatever supplies show up.
My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions about this ride or need directions to the start. Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00AM if necessary.
I am leading this ride from my recumbent, so I am reaching out to all other recumbent riders to come out and ride. All are welcome of course regardless of the bike you ride. This will be a C+ pace on a very flat route. No one left behind. Any questions call my cell, 478-9072. Check back day of ride for any changes.
The weather forecast is for a low of 18 tonight and 25 mile an hour winds for the morning so rather than cancel i decided to ride through the woods to break the wind. we will stop at the deli by the docks for a snack and of course to warm up. Rest rooms are open in the park.
If the wind is 15mph from the west, we will be heading north up Sills Road and continue North on Middle Island Yaphank Road and Rocky Point Road. East to Ridge Rd, stop at McD's, South on Smith to Longwood, heading to Main Street Yaphank and going out to River Rd, to Victory, to Horseblock to Woodside.
If the wind is Northwest we will take the usual route to Manorville.
Leave the Manorville King Kullen for a spin out into the Pine Barrens. We take a route to avoid the winds and that allows us to keep warm... This will be an opportunity to recover from New Years, etc. Even Time Lords need to regenerate on occasion! There will be no formal stop, but there will be regroups, if needed. Happy New Year to all our friends and hopefully we'll see you at Area 51 in the future!
It’s off to Manorville, hopefully the wind will be in our favor today or we can change the route slightly on the return. The average pace for the ride will be between 14.5 to 15.0 mph; perhaps a tad higher or lower depending on the wind direction and other conditions. Naturally, the road speed will be higher (15 -17 mph.) to produce the average. A rest/ food stop at McDonald’s or the bagel shop is on the schedule around mile 12. There will be some leg stretches along the way for those who feel the need.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00AM if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions about the ride or need directions to the start.
Meet at the southwest corner of the train station lot. We will meander through Oakdale, south of Montauk Hwy before heading east through West Sayville and Sayville. On the return we will do a loop around the Bohemia area south of Sunrise Hwy. Bring snacks, there is no food stop on this ride but we will have a short rest stop around mile 12. Cancellation for any reason will be posted no later than 8:00AM Saturday.
Ride east through Center Moriches, East Moriches, Eastport and Westhampton Beach, with a snack/rest stop at the Beach Bakery. Pace will be between 13.5 and 14.0. Cancellation for any reason will be posted no later than 7:30AM Sunday.
