Leaving a little earlier and taking it nice and easy due to heat. Bring plenty of water!!
This is the same route I have been doing for the past few years. We get back in plenty of time to get changed and get on line for lunch. If you want to stay for the picnic make sure you sign up. You can still come out for the ride even if you choose not to stay. You should plan on getting into the park before 8 am before they start to charge at the entrance. Bagels and coffee will be served...
If the weather is a hot and humid as they are predicting I'll shorten this ride to 20 miles. If so, I will have the cue sheets available for anyone who wishes to do the full 30 miles. Decision will be made tomorrow morning.
Join in for this classic picnic ride: scenic, fun and no one dropped! Any changes will be posted by 7 AM. Note: early start 8:30 AM, to try to get ahead of the heat. Call my cell if you have any questions.
Pace will be between 18-21mph (excluding declines and tailwinds).
We will go through the Tanks on the north shore and will wait up after as needed. Our break will be brief (5-10 min) at the Blue Duck Bakery Cafe in Southold (mile 26). We'll then head to Sound Ave until Mattituck then head south for Peconic Bay Blvd.
You should plan on getting into the park before 8am before they start to charge an entrance fee. You may want to bring a change of clothes for the picnic.
Feel free to call/text with questions. Hope to see you there!
Let's meet at Indian Island County Park, and launch a ride that will take us along the Peconic, and then up to the farms of the North Fork. There will be multiple places where we can stop for a break, or even grab an ice cream to cool off! We'll return along the Peconic, to try to avoid the heat.
Since the day is predicted to be a scorcher, the pace will be on the low end of a B+, so no one overheats! Let's work together, enjoy the scenery and get everyone back to the Picnic, safely.
Don't forget to bring the Thunderbird! Who needs craft beer, when you can drink a classy product that can also be used to fuel your car! :)
NOTE – If it is too hot tomorrow we’ll shorten the ride. Let’s see how we feel midway and we’ll take it from there. Please bring 2 water bottles filled with electrolytes; I will make frequent stops so we all make it back healthy. The speed, and pace will be dictated by the group, and the temps!
It’s time for a scenic picnic ride. Really, this is my kind of ride, pie and refreshing liquid afterwards; what more could you want. So, join me for a nice ride before the picnic where we can burn some calories, not many, just enough for that piece of pie. We’ll peddle for an average pace somewhere between 14.7 and 15.0 mph. +/- depending on the wind the ride could wind up in the lower "B" range. Bring a snack; don’t spoil your picnic appetite.
There are showers there if you want to bring a change of clothes; first one back gets the showers first. My cell phone number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions, or need directions to the start. The ride will be cancelled only if the picnic is.
Ride 16-24 miles at an 10.5-11.5 pace. Newbies always welcome and nobody gets left behind. Any cancellation will be by 7:30. bE BACK IN TIME FOR THE BEST PICNIC YOU WILL ATTEND THIS YEAR. YOU CAN STILL RIDE EVEN IF YOU DON'T WANT TO STAY FOR THE PICNIC. AS ALWAYS ROUT WILL BE DEPENDANT BY THE DIRECTION AND SPEED OF THE WIND, TIDE, POSITION OF MOON AND RIDE LEADERS DISPOSITION.
We will do a 15 mile version of this ride rather than original 22 due to expected heat. We will still have a snack and bathroom stop.
Bring PLENTY of water! There will be frequent stops to hydrate!
Let everyone else get sweaty and intense while we while away the miles enjoying the scenery. There will be a break about half-way with snacks to purchase and a bathroom. Be sure to bring your helmet, water bottles, extra tubes (to insure we don't need them!) and a smile.
Contact me prior to ride at my email: (frchtchr@hotmail.com). Morning of ride my cell is 631-835-1454.
Ride cancellation for weather posted by 6:30 morning of ride.
