Under the Ride Level details, the "Type: Road Bike" refers to the ride will be on paved roads (rather then off road trails). Although a Road Bike is suggested for Road Bike Type rides it is not required. Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride. This ride calendar is for club rides, club meetings, club event posts and shop rides only.

3 Laps of 25, Floyd and 25A. Paceline ride averaging 18-19 mph. There are sections that we can stretch out our legs if we are comfortable. No one gets dropped!
Let's have breakfast at Bean and Bagel. Note: weather conditions could result in a change of ride speed, ride location, destination, mileage or result in a cancellation. Be sure to check the ride calendar by 08:30 am day of ride for any changes. For information, contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036.
Exploratory trek through Timber Point Country Club and Heckscher State Park. Golf course is closed for a few months so we can ride the cart paths which run along the Great South Bay (great photo ops). From there we will hop across to Heckscher State Park and explore the many trails and bike paths.
This is a scenic ride so pace will be relatively slow. Trails are flat and very wide. Mountain bikes, fat bikes and even hybrid bikes can handle this terrain.
Please call if you have any questions (347-922-3824).
No need to arrive 20mins early. Just be ready to roll at start time.

Time to get started. My first ride of the year. Easy, easy B- with a stop at the Bakery on the way back. Any changes posted by 7:30. My cell 646-643-6856
It looks like we have a Thunderbird launch window for Sunday morning, after it warms-up and before the afternoon rains.
Let's plan on a even pace at the lower end of the B+ scale, as I am coming back from some time off the bike... The distance may be changed, depending on ride conditions and the group.
There will be several regroup points, but no formal stop. No rider gets left behind!
We will be leaving Bank of America and head to Great River and East Islip for a 21 mile ride. The ride will be at a B- pace with an average speed of around 14.5 to 15mph and road speeds that will reach 16 to 18mph.
Changes or cancelation will be posted by 12:30pm day of ride.
If you have any questions concerning this ride, call Mike at 516 448-8545.
Ride out to Quogue with a few scenic stops, followed by a break at the Beach Bakery. As with all winter rides, this ride is weather dependent, and all aspects of the ride are subject to change. It is vital that you check the ride calendar the day of the ride by 08:15 am for any changes or cancellation. For info: contact Bill G. at 631356-3036.

Winter Mid-Week Base Miles pace. That means moderate effort and a steady pace. Brief stop at the Exxon (that is now closed)- so bring what you need. This is winter and weather may change or cancel this ride, so check back before heading out. Please be famialiar with the route posted below; so I don't get lost!
Off to Bean and Bagel for brunch. Ride will be between 25-28 miles, depending on weather. Due to winter weather every aspect of this ride could change, so be sure to check the ride calendar the day of the ride for any changes, which would be posted by 08:30 am. For info: contact Bill Gravitz at 631-356-3036.
Time change to 09:30am, rain is expected in the afternoon. Off to the preserve with several scenic stops along the way. We will break at the Beach Bakery on our return. The ride is weather dependent, so be sure to check the ride calendar the day of the ride. Changes will be posted by 08:00am day of ride. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036.
This will be a steady winter A paced ride with MAX speed 22-24; like the midweek A rides. The goal here is to ride a 1/2 centruy in January and enjoy MRB after the ride. No scheduled stops (that doesn't mean we won't) so be self sufficient with nutrition/hydration. B+/A riders welcome; route posted below.
Slight route change after mile 45 new route posted below.
Dan and I will be traveling the same route. I have downloaded the route and it will be a new one for me. I have posted it as an A+ route because we have been riding at that rate. Actually, we should bring it back because it's winter and we haven't done 1/2 a century in a while. The reason I am posting is that I will take the knuckleheads with me so Dan can have a nice group ride.
I plan on a steady pace ride except for the tanks where no one behaves. The rest of the ride should be at a steady pace we can all handle. There are no food stops or planned stops but we can talk about that at the ride start.
The trail will still be too wet tomorrow morning so this ride has morphed to a ROAD ride from the Rec Center. We'll head west into the wind first and on the way back we'll have a struggle against the north component of the wind again. The pace will be more B than a B+.
CHECK BACK to this posting after 7:30 tomorrow morning ... if it's still to wet on the roads than this ride will be delayed until Tuesday ... who knows? it may become
a Mtn Bike ride again.
REMEMBER TO CHECK THIS POSTING BEFORE LEAVING FOR THE RIDE ... Life Happens and Things Change!
This ride has been moved from Sunday to Monday AND the venue has been changed.
NOTE: changes may still occur dependant upon when the rain stops. The type of ride maybe morphed into a road ride of 20 to 30 miles.
Check back this evening after 9 for an update which will be separated with a posting demarkation as seen below.

is being DELAYED until Monday AND the VENUE has CHANGED to Shoreham! AND the type of ride maybe morphed into the road ride!
Hopefully I don't have to delay until Tuesday! Sorry for the late update.
Check back tomorrow evening for an update which will be separated with a posting demarkation as seen below
------------------------------------------------------ Original Posting Below ------------------------------------------
This ride is highly dependant upon the weather (precip is forecast through Sunday) and the condition of my left knee
CHECK BACK to this posting on Saturday night for an update. If the ride is delayed to Monday than the location of the ride may be changed or the ride might even morph into a road ride known as the Big Road ride. Overton is too noisy to ride on a weekday due to the scrap metal reclaimation on Rt 112 and the compost/fertilizer company on Mill Road.
Time changed from 10:00 to 10:30 to pick up a couple of degrees. Off to Bean and Bagel. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Everything about this ride is weather dependent, so be sure to check the ride calendar by 08:15am day of ride. Mileage will be between 25 and 28. Speed will be between 13.5-14.5 mph, depending on wind.
We'll do the usual diamonds but in a different order. In the past I've noticed that due to the distance and varying terrain of Glacier Ridge that I have more strength while riding some BDs than others. For this ride we'll do Darkside of the Moon first, maybe cross over Rt. 112 to do the first big BD of Overton, then White Ghost followed by CR 83. After that we'll take a vote on doing all of the Ridges or skipping the first half and finishing up with Hunter's Path.
If you're a B rider don't hesitate ... GR has plenty of waitup spots.
As usual also CHECK BACK to this posting before leaving for the ride as Nothing is for Sure ... Life Happens and Things Change!
Off to Preserve with some miles on Dune Road. Beach Bakery for our rest stop. All aspects of the ride are weather dependent, so be sure to check the ride calendar by 07:45am day of ride for any changes.
That happened 85 years ago; I assure you that won't happen today. Steady A ride to Manorville, no official stop with official facilities. Lets hope for ridable weather. Check back for updates. Route posted below.
Going to Strongs Neck with a stop halfway at Dunkin Donuts. This is rolling and flat with two or three very short uphills. We’ll have waitups for anyone finding them a challenge. There will be scenic views and two places where anyone with a need for speed can go ahead. Make sure to check back the night before the ride and then again morning of the ride as the weather is so changeable. Before the ride, my email is [frchtchr@hotmail.com]. Morning of ride my cell is 631-835-1454.
Off to Bellport – AKA The Pizza Ride…This ride to Bellport will be a 95% flatty. The average pace will come in between 14 and 15 mph; and of course the road speed will be higher to get the average. About half way through the ride we’ll make a pit stop at the café in Bellport and then return. The final mileage will be somewhere between 23 & 26 miles
NOTE: Please check the calendar by 11:30. It’s winter, anything can change; the start location, mileage or the route. Or maybe it's just too cold or windy.
Any cancellations due to unforeseeable circumstances, or weather related problems will be posted by 11:30am. If you have any questions about this ride, or the start location, please call or text my cell, 631-484-3490.
This ride is being delayed to SATURDAY to give the trail time to dry after Thursday night rain.
I also changed the ride level to B/B+ ... an intermediate rider can do this ride if he/she are willing to get off the bike when necessary for caution ... this part of East Setauket takes LOTS of work and most of the technical challenges are do to Effort in climbing. Two early technical turns can be ridden to the top and then dismounted and walked down. I never mind waiting for a careful rider who's willing to work.
As usual check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as nothing is permanent ... Life Happens and Things Change.
Being optimistic ... can it be as warm as 50oF? ... and rain . Hoping to do the Advance section of East Setauket. Depending on how much rainfall there is, this ride start may move to another venue further east AND/OR be delayed until Saturday.
Check back Thursday evening for an update.
As usual check back to this posting beofre leaving for the ride as nothing is permanent ... Life Happens and Things Change.
We'll flatten-out the route, this week, so we can do some long paceline runs. There will be places where riders can stretch their legs, but the rest of the time the group stays together in a team effort.
Happy eve of Daytona Day! (I thought of making a course with only left turns, but maybe next year).
So dust-off the bike, it's saying take me out, and ride with the Thunderbirds!
Route and distance change as it doesn't look as if we will be riding on Sunday. Wait ups on Little Flower and 51. Remember the gas station is closed so bring everything you need.
Park in front of the liquor store next to the line of trees. There is an optionto add a mile or so if we all agree. We will take our break at the deli on river road. lets give this a chance to melt
Smooth ride, faster A+ riders sometimes gather and leave at 8:30. No catering stops, wait ups on top of hills. Please check here at 7:15 for any changes.
This will be a snow ride ... the venue may be changed to Calverton depending on how much snow falls ... check back on Sunday evening for a possible update.
Also, the start time may be delayed based upon riders who have to travel a distance during commute time.
As usual check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as nothing is permanent ... Life Happens and Things Change
Sorry I'll need to postpone this ride to tomorrow. Roads are wet and still icey in spots where the sun hasn't hit yet - not to mention the wind. Tomorrow (Mon) should be a better day.
I'm being very optimistic with this post. Weather could be an issue and ride might be delayed or cancelled. Please check post before leaving house.
This will be the standard Sun morn "Sayville to Babylon" route with a few twists. We will be starting at BoA in East Islip which is approx the midpoint between Sayville and Babylon. Wind speed/direction will determine whether we head toward Sayville or Babylon first (tailwind on the way back). Upon completing the basic loop (31 miles), riders will have the option to join me for two loops around Heckscher State Park for additional miles.
Let's meet in the overflow lot of the train station and take a spin to the deli. Please check back on this post for any changes/cancellations, I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that any snow accumulations melt quickly!
DELAYED DUE TO FOG MILAGE WILL BE SHORTENED AND ROUTE MODIFIED. New Route Posted Below
Changed pace to B+/A; afterall this is still February!
Steady A pace out to Briermere Farms where we'll take a break before returning. Tanks can be an option. May yourself familiar with the route posted below.
The ride is on for 11:00am. Our food stop will be at Bean and Bagel, so we don't have to sit at wet picnic tables. Time changed to 11:00am. Off to Wildwood State Park, with a deli stop just prior to the park. Wildwood has picnic tables, and heated bathrooms. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Winter weather can change any aspect of this ride, or even cause cancellation, so you must check the ride calendar for changes. Changes will be posted by 08:15am day of ride.
Update – 2/22/18 – 7:20am.Due to wet roads and a possible sprinkle before 10am which will keep the roads wet I have moved the ride to 12 Noon.
This is the first ride in about a month for Chris and I so we will keep to the posted pace. It will be a nice ride around the Holbrook area. The average pace for this ride will be between 13.0 & 14.0 mph; naturally the road speed will be higher to produce the average. We can all go for coffee and a bagel at the end of the ride and chat if you want.
Any cancellation due to weather or any other circumstance will be posted no later than 7:45am if necessary. If you have question about the ride or the start location please call or text me 631.484.3490
We will be leaving Bank of America and head to Great River and East Islip for a 21 mile ride. The ride will be at a B- pace with an average speed of around 14.5 to 15mph and road speeds that will reach 16 to 18mph.
Changes or cancelation will be posted by 12:30pm day of ride.
If you have any questions concerning this ride, call Mike at 516 448-8545.
Weather forecast shows fog burning off by 9am but roads might still be wet. We'll need to review road conditions at ride start. Route may be altered and/or shortened for safety reasons.
Scenic ride out to Bellport. Food/restroom break in Bellport before return trip home. Additional rest stop in Patchogue, if needed.
Average speed will be approx 16-17mph with max road speed of 20mph (all dependent upon weather conditions). There are a few hills near Oakdale but the ride is mostly flat.
As Norm once put it, life happens. A last minute thing has come-up, so I am cancelling the ride. Hopefully this will give everyone time to find another ride for tomorrow.
Let's take advantage of the summer-like weather and do a fun ride out to the Riverhead area. The route will be mostly flat and the pace can be a little slower, depending on the group - this will be a no one gets dropped ride.
There probably will be a short stop in Riverhead and several regroups along the way.
Ride cancelled, bike is in for repairs. Off to Bean and Bagel for brunch. For info: contact Bill Gravitz at 631-356-3036. Check ride calendar for changes, which would be posted by 08:15 am day of ride.
The temperature should be quite nice by the time we start! Dust off your bike and join me for an nice easy ride from Sayville - exact route will depend on the wind and road conditions.
This is a C ride, which will average 11.7 - 12; there will be cue sheets; we will have a bathroom break; and we will make a deli stop in Patchogue for a snack/break.
Update – 2/23/18 – 7:15am.Due to wet roads and a possible sprinkle before 9am which will keep the roads wet I have moved the ride to 11:30AM. Looks like the same deal as yesterday.
This morning it might be nice to take a ride through Bellport and Patchogue stopping for a break at Mickey D’s around mile 20. The average pace will be between 14.0 to 15.0 mph depending on the roads, wind direction, dew point, and other conditions. The ride will probably come in twords the lower end a B-. Naturally, the road speed will be higher (15 -16.5 mph.) to produce the average; all things being dictated by the wind direction.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 7:45am if necessary. My cell phone number is 631-484-3490; call or text anytime if you have questions about this ride...
We will be leaving Back Of American in East Islip heading to Great River and East Islip area. Then we will head to Islip Beach. Please bring your snacks and drinks for this ride. Any questions call Mike at 516 448-8545
This is a B- ride with an average speed of 14.5 to 15 mph, road speeds may reach 17-18mph. Check the ride calender for any changes posted by 12:30pm day of ride.
Let’s meet in the parking lot and take the trail to the town of Babylon docks. Since I’m not sure when the trail becomes dark, pack a snack just in case we can’t spend a lot of time at the deli. Lights are also recommended.
Check back on this post for any changes/cancellations which will be prior to 1pm the day of the ride.
Steady winter pace high end of B+/A. There will be a short stop at the closed Exxon gas station. Chance of afternoon rain may change ride so check back. Move-up riders are welcome, I suggest knowing the route posted below and bringing a friend to ride with if the pace is too much.
The Executive Board Meeting will by held at Panera Bread in Bohemia at 6:30 pm.
All members are welcome to come. If a member has business they would like to discuss at the board meeting, please contact Jeff Meyer VP so the board can be preparded to address their topic of discussion. Any vote taken at a board meeting are by board members only.
We will be leaving East Islip BOA and head to the Great River area and stopping at the TP Golf Course if needed. Then we will make our way to the Babylon Dock area for a short break. Please bring your snacks and drinks for this ride. Then off to Islip Beach before returning to the bank.
This is a B- ride with an average speed of 14.5 to 15 mph, road speeds may reach 16-18mph. Check the ride calender for any changes posted by 7:00am day of the ride.
We'll do the Intermediate trail including Mogul 2 and add some of the hills we've been skipping ... definitely do Switch-a-Roo and an introduction to the WALL ... we'll leave Hell Hill for another time. Depending on how much precip we get early Thursday the venue may change.

Looking to keep the group together on this ride. The usual wait up spots. Bring what you need as the main stop is closed. Please check out the route before you arrive. Last time this route was done at a 20 + average at a steady pace.
This will be an easy C ride. My road bike is in for repairs, so I am using an older bike which will insure my slower C pace. For info: contact Bill Gravitz at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for any changes, which would be posted by 08:30am.
Thunderbirds are go for launch; we have a good weather window! Just note the start time and pace; we'll start a little later this week and drop the pace down. I'll be taking it a little easier today, as I have to save some energy for the rest of the weekend!
This will be a paceline ride, but this week we'll do a little flatter run to keep everyone together. Fear not, there will be a few places where the faster T-Birds can stretch their wings, but afterwards we all regroup and ride together! So, if you have been thinking about trying on some wings, (Red Bull is not necessary), this is your chance.
The ride venue has been changed to Glacier as it has not previously suffered the rutting that East Setauket Intermediate trail has. Hopefully the drainage of the today's rain in GR will leave the trail ride-able. The selection of BDs will depend on who shows but we will definitely do the new Eclipse extension.

We'll ride to Shoreham for a quick view of the water and then head back (so I can get to work in the afternoon!). There is one short climb as we leave the north shore...wait ups as needed. Will be keeping this at an easy/low end of B- pace. Bring a snack and water as we won't be making a long deli/bagel shop break - only as needed for bathroom.
Please check back here Sunday night/Monday a.m. by 7:30am for updates or changes.
Off to the Quogue Preserve, with a stop on the way back at the Beach Bakery. Pace will be a standard "C" pace. For info: contact Bill Gravitz at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 08:15 am. My road bike is in for repairs, so I am posting "C" rides untill my bike is fixed.
I'm calling this a preview as the next Slow Hills will be late March or early April. This ride is hills 101. We do C+/B- on the flats and whatever we personally can do on the hills. As the weeks go by, we improve to a B- average. Join us. Waitups on hills occur as a normal part of this ride. The only challenge is a personal one: do better than the last time. This morning will be a warmup for the season.
Our break is at the Oldfield lighthouse. Be sure to bring your own snack. There is no bathroom stop. Cancellation for any reason will be by 8:30am.
