A line of showers and Thunderstorm forcast cancels this ride
A ride by the watersides of St. James, Stony Brook and Old Field. Plenty of waterviews. We stay on back roads, most with little traffic. There is quite a lot of up and down on this ride. The hills after Harbor Road are mostly easy going up. We will stop at West Meadow Beach at mile 11 for a quick rest stop. No one left behind and wait-ups where there are hills.Bring a snack for the rest stop. This ride is a B- effort although our average will be quite a bit less than on a Flat B- ride.
This ride has been moved to Friday due to rain forcast. Easy C ride will be adjusted to the slowest rider rest stop at Bean & Bagel Questions call or text my cell 631-484-1650. There will be some go aheads for the riders that want to get a little more work out.
This Century training ride is a B/B+, modified paceline. Once again, we will be heading out to the Ponquogue Bridge with a stop at the Beach Bakery. After the century, I will be using new routes to keep it interesting. This route allows me to modify the mileage depending on weather and the spirit of the group. Last week a few extra miles were added which might also be the case with this ride. This will be the last "long" ride before the Century.
During the break or at the end of ride, I would like to discuss the riding plan for the century with those of you who are planing to ride.
Questions about the Century or this ride call or text : 631 804-0751.
We will first take a brief tour of Bohemia, and then head to the Babylon docks. This week we will be stopping at Higbie Bagels for a break. Last week we were short of 32 miles so this week we will head north for a bit through Bohemia to tour the old neighborhood in order to hit 32-miles.
Please check ride calendar before leaving for the ride as rain is being forecasted for Saturday. I will cancel by 8:00am if rain imminent. You can always call my cell if any questions 516-983-4827.
I am starting the ride 30 minutes earlier, at 9:00am, to hopefully avoid the afternoon rain that is expected. Lets do a warmup for tomorrow's bike boat bike. Our break will be at Bean and Bagel. There is a chance of rain predicted, so be sure to check the ride calendar by 07:15am the day of the ride for any changes. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036.
It's off to Manorville. The average pace for the ride will be between 14.3 to 15.0 mph +/- depending on the roads, wind direction, rider ability or other conditions. Naturally, the road speed will be higher (15 -16.5 mph.) to produce the average. A rest/ food stop at McDonald’s or the bagel shop is on the schedule around mile 14. There are a few places along the route where leg stretches can be done for those who wish to do so. There is no obligation for anyone to do this; you can hang back with me. If it's a nice day we might add an extra mile or two.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 7:30am, if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call or text me anytime if you have questions about the ride.

Hello everyone, > I will be hosting a ride Sunday 6/3/18 with Doug Terris at 7:30 from Carl Hart, the ride will be approx 50 miles and a reverse route of last week with a few extra hills on the way back (Thanks Doug ;-).
1) You must be an SBRA member to attend these rides. It’s only $20…
2) My routes are very complicated. If you have a bike computer that is capable of turn by turn navigation, do your friends a favor and load the route. If you don’t, and get lost, you can only blame yourself.
3) These routes are designed to teach you how to conserve at the beginning, so you will be strong at the end. If you attack the early hills, then crack and get dropped later, no one will feel sorry for you.
4) I will lead these rides, climbing at around 3-3.5 Watts/Kg in general. On the steep stuff, I’ll keep it as low as possible with a 34/28. If you think this is an interval workout, you’re mistaken. If we all ride tempo, we shouldn’t have to regroup too often.
5) The group which I am in, is the main group. If you go up the road, you best know the route because your on your own.
This ride is 62 miles with 3700 feet of climbing. The route is "Tilda's to Nissequogue" in the SBRA Route Folder. There is also a link below. There will be a water and restoom break at Westmeadow Beach at mile 20 and in Setauket around mile 48.

This ride is 27 miles with 2000 feet of climbing. It is part 2 of a 2 part 90 mile, 6000 ft ride. It will begin as soon as we complete parts 1 and take a quick break at the cars. The route is "Tilda's to Wildwood" in the SBRA Route Folder. There is also a link below. There will be no stops.
Ride from the Sayville Train Station to the Bellport Docks. This will be a relaxed B- pace with cruising on Middle Road and South country road at 14 to 17 mph depending on the wind. Tonight's route will not have many loops to keep the distance to 24 miles. There will be a short water break at the Bellport docks.
Nice scenic ride on the north shore, with some hills and some waitups. We will stay together and pace ourselves through this route. After ride lunch at Saint James Public House.
Sorry about the late posting ... GR will be fine by tomorrow morning ... and last week the ES trail was very clear of brush (figure it's been maintained by CLIMB) but I'll have DEET on hand regardless ... plan on taking it slow and easy before the RR Century.

This ride is hills 101. We will do a low C+/B- on the flats and whatever we personally can do on the hills.
As the weeks go by, we improve to a B- average. Waitups on hills occur as a normal part of this ride. The only challenge is a personal one: do better than the last time.
Our break is at the Oldfield lighthouse. Be sure to bring your own snack. There is no bathroom stop. Cancellation for any reason will be by 8:00am. My email is [frchtchr@hotmail.com]. My cell morning of ride is 631-835-1454.

UPDATE - TUE 1:45PM - There is now rain in the forecast for late afternoon and early evening. Since I already brought my bike with me to work I will be at the ride start and make the "go/no go" call at that time.
We'll either ride west to Oakdale/Bohemia or east to Patchogue/Bellport. No food stop but we can take a short break along the route. Cancellation for any reason will be posted by 2PM.
As this is an after work ride wheels have to be down at 5:20 SHARP. Be ready to ride at the posted time as DAYLIGHTS A BURNIN! Depending on wind, tide, position of moon and ride leaders disposition we will ride approx. 15-18 miles at an 11-11.5 average speed. As always newbies always welcome and NOBODY gets left behind. So get off your butt, tell your boss you're sick (of work) and lets ride for some exercise. Any cancellation will be by 4PM.
Park on South side of tracks in lot across from the school.
Long distance with new routes will resume after the century. All the prep work for the century is done, so this week let’s just do an easy spin with a stop at the Beach Bakery.
Taco Tues is a "GO" for tonight but the ride is postponed to tomorrow (Wed). Sky looks ominous and forecast is not great so why take a chance. The weather looks a little better tomorrow.
Join us as we travel scenic backroads thru the Stonybrook-Setauket area: historic places, great views, great sunsets, great folks. We are a diverse group out for an enjoyable ride and fun nite. There are places to stretch your legs ahead and wait ups after climbs. But please note this is not a "race ride". Apres ride dinner.
Check ride calendar for any changes or cancellations by 4:30pm the day of ride.
We'll spin out to Wlm Floyd and loop around on Whiskey Road. I want to keep this ride a high B average ... if you want to ride faster you're welcome to show up but you will be on your own and may get dropped from behind.
Be sure to check back after 10 pm on Wednesday ...

Today’s route to Great River will change up a bit towards the end of the ride, if the wind is in our favor; making this route pretty flat except for 2 overpasses. We will go the usual route heading south using the Connetquot Park bike bath. We’ll work our way down to Heckscher Park, do a loop where one can stretch the legs a bit if desired.
The average pace for this ride will be between 14.5 & 15.0 mph, or what conditions allow. The road speed will be between 15 and 16.5 mph, or slower if needed for safety concerns.
We’ll be making a rest stop around mile 19 at the deli/bakery. The route back will be determined by the wind direction. Good Stuff after the Ride. Not sure what good stuff; it's always a surprise.

Really only two flat sections ... getting to the North Country Road hills and coming back ... and coming back which will feel fast as once gravity is not slowing us down it feels really good!
The pace of doing these hills will be lower than the pace of B/B+ but the effort will be the same as that speed on the flats. Think of this as a warmup to do John's Wednesday Morning Hills ride but slower ... We'll run the North Country Rd hills between Wildwood and Wading River and hope to meet up with John's crew.
Be sure to check back Wednesday morning by 7:00 AM ....

Join us for Rons BBB. Bike Beach Brew ride. We start in Patchogue and go to Smiths Point Beach and then back to the start. Thats the Bike and Beach part. Any one that wants to participate in the Brew part can go to the Blue Point Brewery for snacks and Beer of course. There are many of us that do not drink but we do love to see our freinds and catch up so we go to the Brewery anyway. There is a deli accross the street if you want to bring a sandwich over and sometimes there is a food truck that has burgers. You can bring chips , salsa, cheese and crackers or whatever you want to snack on and they don't mind.

This is the other BBB ride (Bike-Beach-Brew) at a slightly slower pace. Riders will have the opportunity to "stretch their legs" at certain points but we'll ride as a group. No one gets dropped. Route will begin in Patchogue at Shorefront Park and we'll head to Smith Point Beach for a quick rest stop. Northern route for the return trip to Patchogue (Victory / Woodside).
After the ride we'll head to Blue Point Brewery where we'll meet up with other SBRA groups participating in this annual get together. Lots of fun.
We'll be joining the other groups leaving Shorefront Park in Patchogue, since the new brewery may not be open yet, and then going to the brewary after the ride. Come for the ride and/or come for the social aspect of the club (no drinking required). Bring a change of clothes for after the ride and munchies will be also be most appreciated ;).
If we go to the old brewery location, there may be a food truck available and there is a deli across the street. If it is the new brewery, they will most likely have food there.
Any food and/or brew costs are at personal expense.
This ride will most likely be going to Holtsville Ecology Center for break, so bring a snack and drink for the quick stop. We will see a "beach" either in Sayville or Bellport.
Check out the other ride posts for additional details.

****please note this is a paceline ride and not suitable for first time riders due to excessive traffic on union and road conditions, however you are more than welcome to join but please ride in the back, thank you****

The RR Century is over! Time to get some hills on those legs!!
Once we start coming back from the hills we will feel fast as once gravity is not slowing us down ... it feels really good!
The pace of doing these hills will be lower than the pace of B/B+ but the effort will be the same as that speed on the flats. Think of this as a warmup to do John's Wednesday Morning Hills ride but slower ... We'll run the North Country Rd hills between Wildwood and Wading River and do Boy Scout as a finale!
Be sure to check back Monday morning by 6:30 AM ....

We are going to check out the new bike path in Calverton and take a short break at the bean&bagel. Speed will be 13- 15mph with plenty of go aheads for faster riders. Check back day of for any changes by 9:15am.
