Hoping to ride Cathy’s Silly Lilly’s Sassafras route but will leave the destination open based on wind direction. We are heading south east to Silly Lilly's fishing station in East Moriches. Beginning with a loop on Ridge Rd. to Wm. Floyd, and working our way to Wading River Rd. taking it all the way south to Montauk Hwy. & east to Silly Lilly's. It's a Long S T R E T C H the entire way south. We will have a quick rest stop in East Moriches, lots to choose from. The return route is different with continued nice stretches and back roads. We are heading back on Pine St. to Chapman Blvd., to South St., to Silas Carter Rd., to Ryerson Ave., around Swan Lake Golf course area & back to Rocky Pt. cycle.
Park in overflow lot to the south of the RR station for an easy ride to Bellport. Deli stop included. Check back for any changes which would be posted by 7 am.
Well here it is, the T-Birds Century Training Ride #9, the final one! We'll flatten out the route and roll on down the highway, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEe8UZ5SCm0, eventually arriving at Briermere Farms at around 25 miles. Hopefully, we'll have a faster average, as we taper-off the mileage and get ready for the Century.
Listen-up for the route directions and grab a cue sheet; this will be a new route. As usual, we'll have some places to stretch your legs and maybe a sprint!
Good luck to everyone doing the Century!
Take a glance at the infamous Memory Motel, as you ride into Montauk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cowl02DXx3A&feature=youtu.be (based on some Rolling Stone experiences). And remember Al Swiezy and his famed ice cream spoon and other SBRA greats like: Al Kelly - who created so many great routes, and Jessie Newman - who ran the famed SBRA time trials!

Come and enjoy cycling the beautiful east end of Long Island. Ride the 39th Annual Bike Boat Bike.
BEAUTIFUL routes ... AND free lunch after the ride!
The Suffolk Bicycle Riders Association (SBRA) invites you to cycle Long Island's East End. Tour through the woodlands, fields, and back roads of eastern Long Island. The longer routes take the ferry and cycle through the scenic coves and byways of beautiful Shelter Island. Ride with friends, family or join a group and make new friends. Whether your preference is social, scenic viewing, or fast recreational cycling, we are sure you will enjoy the tour. Bike Boat Bike has beautiful rolling terrain with hills, and a few more challenging hills on Shelter Island.
NO WAITING IN LONG LINES- All materials mailed to you, just drive up, get on your bike and RIDE!
ALL NEW ROUTES!!! All routes start and end at the same location. Routes are from 25 to 100 miles with Rest Stops and SAG support.
Route is the typical Calverton to Wading River to Riverhead that Jim and Brian post, up CR 51 and 111. Wait ups at the top of 51 and as we turn onto Halsey Manor from 111. Short break at the Exxon after Mill Road.
This will be a B+/A ride. Max pace will be 24mph (unless we are on a decline or have a tailwind).
Many of us got a reality check with Tom's crash today... We ALL need to point things out... debris, holes, grates, etc. Do not assume people will see it...better for all of us to be safe, not sorry.
A fun spin ride out to Riverhead to grab a bagel or snack, and recover from Saturday's rides. This will be a mellow paceline ride, where everyone stays together!
Now is your chance to go for a ride away from the traffic and roads, that you find in the West.
For those not involved with BBB, come out for a pleasant ride to two beautiful beaches. One an overlook view and the other a stop at Cedar Beach. There will be a quick bathroom break at Sassy Bagels then on to Shoreham where there are no facilities. Next stop Cedar Beach for bathroom and beach break. This is a mixed elevation ride. Some flat, some rolling and a couple of climbs to get to and come out of Cedar Beach. We will wait at top of hills so no worries. Pace will be faster on flats and tailwinds!
Please bring lots of water, snacks & sunscreen. You can make a purchase at Sassy Bagels to bring along and eat at beaches but i prefer short stops rather than waiting on long lines.
Sorry, had to cancel as not enough interest ... I'll have to get the miles by riding some of them on at least one SBRA ride.
If you're interested in doing this ride PLEASE contact me as I think it will take at least four of us to do the work comfortably. Contact me via my cell # below or click on Stormnnorman above and use the contact email. If I don't hear from other riders I will cancel and probably do another ride.
Always check the posting before leaving for the ride as Life Happens and Things Change.
I couldn't do two rides at once last Saturday so Bernie was good enough to let me use his route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/30037769 . I know many of the roads but haven't done this route so the more riders that load the ridewithgps the better ... my Garmin 820 has hung up in the past ;-( .
I've done an 80 miler on the Monday before the RR Century and not suffered a consequence but for some people it is better to begin tapering off the distance/effort before this date and riders should take that into consideration.
If you didn't get a chance to ride BBB, this is an opportunity to get some mileage in. Starting at Maples, we'll take a scenic bathroom stop at mile 18 at Cupsogue Beach, and a food break at the Beach Bakery mile 26. Bring snacks and water, sunscreen and whatever else you need to stay happy. I"ll aim for a mid range C+/B- average, depending on group and wind. Check the ride calendar for any changes, which will be posted by 8:00 AM, or call my cell.

Low level C+/B- to the lighthouse in Oldfield and West Meadow Beach. Rest stop/ bathroom break at the beach
Get your hill practice served many different ways by the hills of the Three Villages. Our break is at West Meadow Beach; bring your own snack. Bathroom stop at the beach. On the non-hills, we expect to cruise at C+/B-. On the hills, each does his/her own best effort and we meet at the top — no pressure there. There are spots where faster riders can push ahead.

While many people are participating in today's century ride, some members do not want a long ride or only have a few hours to devote to riding today, like myself.
So, I am posting this C ride (average 11.6 and 12.1) for those who want to get out for a few hours, at a relaxing pace. Join me for this ride around Holbrook, Ronkonkoma, and Bohemia, then down to Sayville and back up to Ronkonkoma and the ride start. We will take our break at the Gourmet Bagel Co. on Lakeland Ave., where beverages, food, and a bathroom are available. Adjustments to the route direction and/or distances may be made due to the prevailing winds and/or temperature changes.
We will take a 30 mile tour of Islip town. Some of the roads we are already familar with while some others will be new to most of us. This is the first time doing this route, I am still working on developing it, and hopefully by ride time I will have it down pat. I am figuring the ride to be 30 miles at a B- pace with road speeds from 14-16.5, with wind to our backs maybe 17mph. Depending on my final route we may possible be a mile or two plus or minus. I am hoping for a minimum of 30 miles and maximum of 32 miles. We will take a break around 14-15 at the Islip Terrace Bagel Bakery. Please don't eat too much at this break as I have hired a specially talented baker who will be supplying cup cakes at the finish.
Any cancellations due to weather will be posted by 8:00am, feel free to contact me if you should have any questions 516-983-4827.
Please park in Sayville Railroad parking lot south of the RR tracks in the lot next to Greene Ave.
It's off to Manorville. The average pace for the ride will be between 14.6 to 15.0 mph +/- depending on the roads, wind direction, rider ability or other conditions. Naturally, the road speed will be higher (15 -17 mph.) to produce the average. The route might vary slightly from last week depending on conditions. A rest/ food stop at McDonald’s or the bagel shop is on the schedule around mile 16. There are a few places along the route where leg stretches can be done for those who wish to do so. There is no obligation for anyone to do this; you can hang back with me.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 7:30am, if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call or text me anytime if you have questions about the ride
This ride is for those who don't want to do a full metric century (67 Miles). HOwever, it's one way from Hampton Bays to Montauk where we can join the other century riders for food, drink and merriment . You'll need a way to get back to the ride start or home. Any questions, give a call 631-588-5763.
Pace line ride out to the Main Road Biscuit. Pace is between Cahrlie Birds and Early Birds. If you are looking at race pace the Early Birds is for you. Please download or become familiar with the route.
Saftey first. Please make sure you do a ride you feel comfotable riding. It's ok to push yourself but no one should be riding in the red. You put yourself and everyone else at risk when you do so. These rides are suppose to be fun.
After the big ride, it might be nice to do an easy controlled paceline ride out to Riverhead, to do some active recovery for those tired muscles. We'll stop at Goldberg's Bagels in Riverhead to grab a nice bagel and / or coffee. And of course, we can all brag about the great averages that everyone had on the Century!
Then it's a spin through some rolling terrain including Middle Road and Deep Hole, with an easy pace up the rises!
Ride to Babylon with a quick stop in town for coffee. We will try to come in with a 14.0mph average, which means we will be cruising at 15.0-15.5. Ride is very flat with 2 small hills over the railrod tracks
Today's’ route to Great River will change up a bit towards the end of the ride, if the wind is in our favor; making this route pretty flat except for 2 overpasses. We will go the usual route heading south using the Connetquot Park bike bath. We’ll work our way down to Heckscher Park, do a loop where one can stretch the legs a bit if desired. The average pace for this ride will be between 14.5 & 15.0 +/- mph, or what conditions allow. The road speed will be between 15 and 16.5 mph, or slower if needed for safety concerns.
We’ll be making a rest stop around mile 19 at the deli/bakery. The route back will be determined by the wind direction. Good Stuff after the Ride. Not sure what good stuff; it's always a surprise.
Any cancellations due to unforeseeable circumstances, or weather related problems will be posted by 7:30am. If you have any questions about this ride, or the start location, please call or text my cell, 631-484-3490.

This is a C+ ride, which will average 12.5 - 12.9, depending on the wind and the riders, and there will be cue sheets.
The Century is over and on the books so now it’s time to enjoy a ride! This will be an easy b/b+ on the low end of the b/b+ range. Making it later in case any Century riders want to come. Check the morning of the ride for any changes.
I'm in ER @ SBU for Bonnie; hoping to ride this ride on Wednesday
I'm done with piling on milage in training for the RR Century ... time to begin working some hills. This ride was created by Jack Steffens, a great ride leader and hill (and dog) trainer who passed too soon. This ride has a B/B+ rating due to the effort but will probably end up with a B pace. We only climb ~1650 feet with this ride.
Recovery is about heart rate and/or power not speed! I will be monitoring heart rate and power and keeping in the zone 2 area. Pleae check the route below.
No way to know on Monday how wet tomorrow will be at ride time. Please check back at 7:45 for decision on ride time or possible cancel.

Thiswill be a nice ride around the Holbrook area. The average pace for this ride will be between 14.0 & 15.0 mph; naturally the road speed will be higher to produce the average. We can all go for coffee and a bagel at the end of the ride and chat if you want. If the route changes a bit we could stop at Mickey D's. We'll see, group decides.

A new course with long rocking highway runs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuyR6SZGEqs , that eventually gets us out to Briermere Farms at around 26.5 miles. Kick in the pedal and let's get a little bit faster...we don't have to ride a hundred miles. The return will include some rolling terrain, including Deep Hole, with a new twist.
So, clean-off the bike from the Century, dig out two water bottles and let's rock!
No booze on this cruise, but a chance to grab some of Briermere's goodies and coffee!
SORRY HAVE TO CANCEL THIS RIDE. MAY SEE YOU AT BBB

So I'll be at the ride start, will consult radar and made changes to the ride then. We may do stretches of the route that keep us close to the ride start. And we will be slow going on any wet roads...
Bring your rain jacket and a towel for after just in case (ugh...I guess I really want to ride a little bit tonight LOL!).

This will be a steady 41 miles on some of the most pristine roads a cyclist is likely to find—seriously! We will maintain a cruising speed between 20 and 24 mph; whoever is pulling will decide the pace—just keep it steady. I hope to see you there.

Let's give the Bartlets a try again. They offer a bit of a challenge for poor hill climbers like myself, but if we push on through this ride a few times we should get stronger. Although, I must say, it hasn't worked for me yet, but I haven't given up trying. So come on out and suffer with me. The pace will be a B- until we hit the hills then it will be at whatever pace you can do and there will be be wait-ups for me at the end of the hills. We will take a short break at the golf course. Coffee and rolls are available or bring your own snack. Cancelations or changes will be posted by 9 am.
Our second hill ride. Explore the hills, reservoirs, lakes, streams, (a waterfall if I don't miss it) mansions, coast on this scenic tour of our neighbor to the north. The first 30 miles are an increase in elevation. It eases up after that with the next 20 miles are rolling with an overall down hill and the final 18 are pretty flat. It is two miles shorter than last year's route. Two strategically placed deli type stops with bathrooms. Breakfast on the Ferry isn't half bad!
Allow at least a half hour to park and purchase Ferry Tickets $33 round trip can be purchased online in advance. Port Jeff residents can park in a Village lot for Free. Brookhaven Residents can park in the Brookhaven lot. All others must pay to park or park on a residential street a number of blocks away - allow 45 minutes if you're thinking of that.
Celebrating Manny’s Birthday, XXX, plus a few bonus miles.

Today's’ route will be similar to the Great River route with some added mileage, and a few changes. The changes will bring us through Islip Terrace or East Islip; it will all depend on the wind. The route is pretty flat except for an overpass, here and there.

This ride was basically created by Jack Steffens, a great ride leader and hill (and dog) trainer who passed too soon. This ride has a B/B+ rating due to the effort but will probably end up at B/B- pace. We "only" climb ~1880 feet with this ride ;-).
I'm starting this ride at the Lakes club house and if you bring a bathing suit (or use your riding gear as I do) and towel, you can join me after the ride for a refreshing dip as my guest.

This is a Tag Along for the usual Shea Hill Route. The biggest difference will be that we will roll out 10 minutes early and do a real warmup all the way to Wading River. The A ride will probably catch us around the Wildwood Wait-Up. We will then ride with the A group for the rest of the ride.
The Generals Hill ride with the General missing. We'll help Lisa carry on the tradition by filling this week. Same start time, same route, same regroups.
NOTE: Ride start location changed. We all know what this ride is about; burger and a beer $6.00. Tacos $1.00 and half price beer; if you can’t make the ride stop in, and join us for the eats. Ok, now let’s talk about the ride.
We’ll be going to the Yaphank area, the Patchogue area, or the Holbrook area. It all depends on the riders and the wind. Most riders like the LI Avenue run, so if possible that will be choice one. Note: the ride starts at Rudi’s. I have spoken with the owner and parking will be allowed on Wednesdays. Please park along the north side of the parking lot first. Then use the west side if spots are full. DON’TPARK in reserved spaces.
I know this is a new ride start location. Click on Rudi’s above and then click Google Maps. If you need directions please call me at 631.484.3490, or text. Any cancellation due to weather or unforeseen circumstance will be posted no later than 12:30PM.

This is the companion ride to the long-running Kreb Shop "A" Ride. This week’s route is to The Maples. We make every effort to keep both ride groups together, but if there is a split, we let the A ride go ahead. We do scheduled wait-ups (and as necessary), in addition to one brief rest stop halfway through ride. Please bring adequate drinks and nutrition, as the rest stop occurs in a parking lot (no food/drinks/restrooms available).
Please park your car in the Bellport Municipal Parking Lot located at Bellport Lane & Bell Street, and then ride bike half a block over to the Kreb Bike Shop parking lot at 10 Bell Street, to sign-in for ride and hear the pre-ride briefing.
This ride WILL BE an easy 31 mile loop.I will not exceed a cruising speed of 18mph.The Kreb ride is a great ride for anyone looking for a faster ride. But for those looking to cut it back, or step it up; as the case may be, count on a steady 17 to 18 mph.
Cancelations or changes will be posted by 8 am.
This is the old North Fork BBB route, leaving from Mattituck.

This is a warm up for the Orient century on Sunday. I'd like to keep our speed between 18-20 mph with a max pace of 24 mph (unless we are on a decline or have a tailwind).
Beaver Dam has some rough road. Sprint section on William Floyd to Smith Point. After a quick break at the beach (5-10 min), we'll turn right onto Parkwood Dr and cross over William Floyd back towards Smith St (safer than crossing over several lanes of highway). Instead of taking Horseblock Road to Sills (rough road) we'll turn onto Yaphank Ave to Long Island Ave to Sills.
In the event of rain, I'll post an update by 7am Sat morn.
We will be leaving Bank of American in East Islip heading to Great River and East Islip area. Then we will head to Bohemia and stop at McDonalds around mile 23 for our break. Any questions call Mike at 516 448-8545

Naturally, the road speed will be higher (15 -17 mph.) to produce the average. The route might vary slightly from last week depending on conditions. A rest/ food stop at McDonald’s or the bagel shop is on the schedule around mile 13. There are a few places along the route where leg stretches can be done for those who wish to do so. This ride is most flat...with some hills, especially the closer we get to Plainview. Since this is a shared bike path with pedestrians and other riders, a C+ should be reasonable pace. There will be a break in Bethpage Park before heading towards Plainview via the Bethpage Bikeway in Plainview. Please bring snacks/water since there won't be a food stop. The restrooms will be open in the park.
Please check back on this post for any cancellations/changes for this ride
Riding from VMP in Calverton we do the Tanks and head out to our first rest stop in Greenport; then it’s out to Orient State park and the Cross Sound Deli stop. On our return we stop at the MRB for a break before heading back to VMP via Mill Road (sorry no 51 & 111). Posted as an A, I hope to come in between 19-20 MPH. Cruising speed will be higher.
Note: 6/25 updated the route to avoid 25 between Burnham and Edwards. Included re-group points (these will be at the end of long runs and some turns as we usualy do). This is a twist to the usual route so please review the route and put it on your Garmin/Wahoo. Amanda will be leading a B+/A group slightly behind ours.
thanks to: Amanda, Jim, & Mike Cole for their assistance with the route.
Ride Leaders: Tag-alongs and Companion rides welcomed.
Parking is free before 8 a.m. in the Old Silvermine Lake ski area. It takes about 1.5 hours to get there from the Uncle Giuseppe parking lot on Rte. 110 near Northern State Parkway, where we will meet at 6 a.m. to drive up together (or you can drive up on your own). Be there by 7:30 a.m.
There are water and bathroom stops, bring your own food.
Ride is rated B+, not for average speed (it will be lower) but for the effort & bike handling skills needed on the climbs and steep descents. There is some paceline riding, but we will climb and descend at our own pace, with waitups at top and bottom.
If interested, please contact me before so I have your email and phone number in case of changes, etc.
Get your muscles ready to work! On the way back we'll stop at Main Road Biscuit and head back to VMP via Mill Road (no 51 or 111). Wait-ups as needed.

Today's’ route will be similar to the Great River route with some added mileage, and a few changes. The changes will bring us through Islip Terrace or East Islip; it will all depend on the wind. The route is pretty flat except for an overpass, here and there.
We will go the usual route, heading south, using the Connetquot Park bike path. We’ll work our way through the Islip’s then down to Heckscher Park, do a loop where one can stretch the legs a bit if desired. The average pace for this ride will be between 14.5 & 15.0 +/- mph, or what conditions allow. The road speed will be between 15 and 17.0 mph, or slower if needed for safety concerns.
We’ll be making a bathroom break around mile 21. The rest stop around mile 27 will be the deli/bakery. The route back will be determined by the wind direction. Good Stuff after the Ride. Not sure what good stuff; it's always a surprise.
