First ride after our vacation, so taking it easy with a C ride, which will average 11.3 - 12.0; no one gets dropped and we will be observing spacing rules, etc. Ride route will be determined by the road conditions; decision to be made the morning of the ride; no cue sheets. We will most likely head to Blue Point, where we will tahe our break; there will be a bathroom stop.
The number of riders is limited, so if you want to ride text me (631-523-2129) with your SBRA Member Number and Emergency Contact phone number. I will respond to your text and let you know if you have a spot on the ride. Once the ride is filled, I will change to post to indicate that.
I'm filling in for John this week while he is in Italy. This will be a somewhat normal route but we will be taking a different road that was from years ago. Namely as we cross Route 25A and start down the hill on Wading River Manorville Road we will turn right on Remsen Road about halfway down before the church. We used to take this road which has some good ups, downs, twists and turns and brings us to North Wading River Road where we turn right and continue the route as usual. Please review the RWGPS route so you will know the turns. Hope to see you there!
Welcome to October and Halloween (or Samhain) month!
Meet at The Maples for a little paceline ride to the beach - Westhampton Beach (WHB.). Along the way we'll visit CR 104 /31 Hill, and the run past the airport.
Today's Mi Tierrita ride will be going to the Beach. The route is mostly flat with a small incline here and there. The average pace for the ride will be between 15 to 15.9 mph, depending on the roads and wind direction. The road speed will be between 16.0 and 17.0 mph. The usual break-a-ways will happen for those who desire. We'll stop along the way for a bathroom break around mile 10. Don’t forget to bring a snack. Do you know what AGUAPANELA is? Come and find out. Pulls are always appreciated.
Come join us for a Moriches exploration as we head down from Maples and ride around the Moriches exploring roads and dead ends with water views. All and all, 35 or so miles with lots and lots of turns (which should slow the average speed). T
We will not be making a stop to buy lunch during the ride. However, there will be a number of scenic and other stops along the way, so please bring any food or snacks you may want or need as well as sufficient hydration. Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore and discover.
To join the ride or if you have questions, please text Bill Mastro at 917-921-5358. I usually send the final ridewithgps file to those that text me. Any updates or weather issues will be posted to the ride listing by 7:15 on the day of the ride.

The SBRA October General Meeting will be held as an "IN PERSON" meeting, on Thursday, October 3rd at 7:00 pm.
Guest Speaker: Byron Lane, Certified coach, and former teacher.
Topic: You’ve worked hard this year, and now you’re in pretty good shape. But how do you keep your fitness through the long, cold winter? What should you do over the next six months so that you don’t have to start from scratch in April? Find out at the October meeting.
*This presentation is designed to address those who have a bike trainer and those who don’t, for those who have a gym membership and for those who don’t.
Please join us for this IN PERSON meeting for a chance to see some of your fellow SBRA members that you may not have seen for a while. We hope to see you at the meeting!
John Mueller is today's guest ride leader, in my absence. Thank you, John!
***No A ride at this location. A Rides happen at Kreb Eastport location, same day & time***
Remember the Allison Gonzalez Tag-A-Long Kreb ride of days past??THIS IS IT. This is the B+ Kreb ride to The Maples. Pace is UP TO 18.9 avg at end (which means cruising to 21mph on the flats).
No sprints on Victory or anywhere else; group stays together.
NO SWEEP ON THIS RIDE!!! Wait-ups within reason. If this is your first B+ ride, bring a friend along & please also download the route to your GPS device.
Park in municipal lot then cruise over to bike shop at 10 Bell St to sign in, use restroom if needed & start ride. Any questions, please text me.
Off to Nettie's for great treats, and indoor and outside seating. To join this ride, text Bill G. at 631-356-3036 with your full name and your own cell#. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 07:30am.
Come join us for a 37 or so mile ride with a stop for some of Nettie's wonderful treats. The ride incorporates a number of fun short rolling hills. Please bring hydration and most importantly an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore.
If you have questions, please text Bill Mastro at 917-921-5358. I also appreciate if you text me to let me know you are joining the ride. Generally, I forward the final ridewithps file to those who let me know they are attending. Any updates or weather issues will be posted to the ride listing by 7:30 on the day of the ride.
The usual ride out to Manorville with the Mill Hill Loop option. You can skip the hill loop and go directly to Halsey for a wait up for everyone doing the loop.
Putting Feelers out for this one. Copake Lake NY ride. I will be camping up in Copake Lake. like to organize a ride if you want to travel to a new place and try new roads. 100K ride 3200 feet of climbing. It's roughly about a 3 hour drive to Copake Lake. After ride we can have lunch at my camper and enjoy the park camp grounds. There are Hotels near the camp ground and I believe the camp ground has rental cabins and Tent sites.
I posted as a B+ for the fact I don't know the roads and looking just to have fun ride. We can even have 35 mile ride on Sunday as well or go for a hike. This is also a perfect time for all the fall colors in trees.
Please text me if interested as I will work with Campground to see if I can get a better rate.
Gettiing together for a Fat bike ride on the beach to say goodby to summer. We'll head east on the sand along the ocean enjoying the waves crashing and turn around to catch the prevailing westerly winds back. Ride is planned to end as Sundays on the Bay opens for lunch. It would be great to have a nice lunch with the group. Bring or meet with your significant other for lunch.
Feeling left out because you don't have a fat bike? Ask your favorite ride leader to post a road bike ride to compliment this fat bike ride and join us for lunch.
Always glad to get together with my SBRA friends. Please text me if your interested.
RIDE IS CHANGED TO SUNDAY, 10/6, AND NOW IS A C PACE.
This will be an easy C ride, as I haven't been on the bike for about two weeks. We will ride around Center Moriches with an average of 11.2 - 11.9 and will be taking our break at Nettie's. There are some very nice water views along the way. No one gets dropped and we will be observing spacing rules, etc. Since the exact route will be determined as we go along, there will not be a cue sheet.
The number of riders is limited, so if you want to ride, text me (631-523-2129) with your SBRA Member Number and Emergency Contact phone number. I will respond to your text and let you know if you have a spot on the ride. Once the ride is filled, I will change to post to indicate that.
MEETING LOCATION: straight back from Wendy's and Dunkin Donuts, on the EAST SIDE of the shopping center.
This is an RSVP ride. I can only take 6 additional people on this ride due to the carry-on-bicycle limitations on the NYC Ferry.
As of now... only 3 spots remain open.
Here's the plan....
Roosevelt Island 59th Street Bridge Central Park NYC Ferry from UWS to Wall Street South Street Seaport Battery Park Brooklyn Bridge Brooklyn Piers Prospect Park kosciuszko Bridge Pulaski Bridge Gantry Plaza State Park
The riding route is about 35 miles with about 1000 ft of elevation (plus 7 leisurely miles on the ferry). A 35 mile city ride with stops for sightseeing and photos can be a longer day than you might expect. I hope to be back at the cars by 3pm. Here's a link to the route:
Bring snacks and gels. We make stops fairly often, plus there will be an official rest stop somewhere along the way.
Obviously… not your typical "club ride". It's more like a day-long adventure ride. I'm very selective about the roads/paths I choose. Most will have a designated bike lane. A few will not. Some bicycle paths will have bumpy segments. I prefer to use my back-up "rain" road bike with 28mm tires.
This is a B/B+ ride ... not so much for the speed, but more for the hills (bridges) and the general confident bike handling skills required to navigate a variety of advanced cycling situations.
Contact me (text) in advance if you plan to come. Provide me with your SBRA Member # and I'll sign you in.
If you need an address for your GPS to find the start location, then use 42-25 Vernon Blvd, Queens, NY 11101
Feel free to text me with your questions or concerns.
Let's meet at the Kreb Cycle in Eastport for a ride out to the Citarella Market in Southampton Village. This will be a paceline ride, but we will work with each other so no one gets dropped! The plan is for this to be a fun ride, not a training ride, so be ready to work together!
On the way East we'll follow one of the Century Training Rides, riding through Remsenberg and Westhampton Beach. We'll probably have a rest stop around 18 miles on the way East, and we'll reach Citarella at around 29 miles. After a gourmet food stop, we'll head back on the return loop eventually doing the Casa Basso and Old Country Road.
Note: Please park in the northwest corner of the parking lot behind the Kreb Cycle in Eastport.
Due to rain forecast, maybe we'll ride, maybe not. B+ means cruise at 19-21, avg 18+-. Please, if you cannot do a B+ ride, then find an alternate ride, the trainer, or the gym perhaps. Please check this site at 7 am on Monday morning for any changes to the ride.
Things to remember: After pulling (2 min) drop to the back so everyone can get a chance to pull.
After making a turn or starting up from a stop, slow/soft pedal for a while so everyone can catch up easily. That's it for now.
Damn Rd is closed to traffic every day now so we will still detour using Connecticut, Mill Rd, and Rte 24 to Wildwood Lake. Coming back we will do the Pinehurst Blvd. detour for fun.
Check back to this posting ... esp. if the wind picks up. It will be a chilly start ... maybe light gloves and leggings? The route will go down Rt 25A and then west to Berman. Anyone know if the roadwork over Forge/Dam Rds is complete? Please let me know as most of us prefer that route back to the start.
Shared pulls will be expected ...
Contact me (631-988-6557) if you plan to join us and I'll contact you directly if there's any changes AND you'll only have to add your signature to the Ride Sign In sheet.
Off to Quogue Preserve. This ride will have several water views, rest room stops and a stop in a pocket park in Westhampton Beach, a minute from a bakery, and a quick walk to a 7-11. Part of this ride will be on Dune Road. Park in the back left part of the parking lot. To join this ride, text Bill G. at 631-356-3036 with your full name and date of ride. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 08:00am.
Starting from Belmont Lake State Park to TOB Docks, if you've never done this ride we will be riding on a dirt trail - then on roads once we get into Babylon. Optional deli stop, if desired or we can just go to the docks for a quick break. Either way, please pack snack(s) and hydration & obviously $ if you want anything from the deli.
Please note: Mileage can be added - depending upon the riders that show up.
Any changes/cancellations will be made prior to 8:00 am.
Text me/call me at 631-521-0688 for questions about this ride.

This is a C+ ride, which will average 12.1 - 12.6, depending on the weather and those in the group. The route may be flexible, due to the winds, so probably no cue sheets.
Please be aware the start is at the Mattituck Marketplace. Bathrooms available on Main Road in the CVS, across from the Magic Founatin and in the Marketplace food store.

Vaccine reaction got in the way last week, so we try again. Come join us for a Moriches exploration as we head down from Maples and ride around the Moriches exploring roads and dead ends with water views. All and all, 35 or so miles with lots and lots of turns (which should slow the average speed). There is a chance for a bonus 2.5 miles, which will be a game day decision.
We will not be making a stop to buy lunch during the ride. However, there will be a number of scenic and other stops along the way, so please bring any food or snacks you may want or need as well as sufficient hydration. Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore and discover.

Along the way, we'll do the paceline run down Route 24 and the long rise up CR 104, leading us to the stop in Westhampton Beach.
After the stop, we'll hit the Casa Basso and Old Country Road, leading us back to the finish in Manorville.
Heading to Wading River for a quick break. Cruising speed will be 14-16mph. Check back day of for any changes by 8:15am. Any questions please contact me.
Join me for my last Century of the SBRA season. Pls call or txt if you plan to come (347-922-3824).
Planning to make about 3 stops (Southold, Greenport, and at the end of the Shelter Is portion of the ride or possibly Greenport again when we get off the ferry) for hydration, restrooms and lunch but this may change as "nature" calls. Avg speed should be on the low to mid point of B+ range. I can't push it too hard because I'm still recovering from a slight strain.
Please pack proper hydration (at least 2 water bottles), food to eat along the way (Cliff Bars, trail mix, GU packs, etc), some $$ for lunch and a cell phone.
I will try to keep the group together and my intent is not to drop anyone; however, based on past experience, some riders may not be able to finish the full century for various reasons (muscle cramping, heat exhaustion, mechanical issues, etc.). In this case, please have a back-up plan to get yourself home (spouse, friend or Uber).
New RwGPS route posted below (NOFO / Shelter Is v2). I sort of reversed the route so we take advantage of the forecasted WNW wind in the morning.
Join me for this C+ ride, which will average 11.8 - 12.7; no one gets dropped and we will be observing spacing rules, etc. Ride route will be determined by the road conditions; decision to be made the morning of the ride; no cue sheets. We will either head to Blue Point or to Oakdale for our break; there will be a bathroom stop.
The number of riders is limited, so if you want to ride, text me (631-523-2129) with your SBRA Member Number and Emergency Contact phone number. I will respond to your text and let you know if you have a spot on the ride. Once the ride is filled, I will change to post to indicate that.

I will ve filling in for Mel on this ride same, route without any extended pre ride speach or photo op (sorry Mel!) check back Monday morning for any weather updates, hope to see you there!
Late posting, sorry. This will be a true B+ MOM. So, as I have said before, if you cannot manage a B+ ride, find another. That would be Gary's ride at 8:30, A-. So we will cruise at 18-22 but 19 -20 is preferable. Ave 18-19. There are some things I will discuss before the ride regarding safety and cooperation and there may be a photo opp at Wildwood Lake. We will stay together as a group which means no surging, steady pace. Remember, this is a recreational ride, not a training ride or race. Waitups as needed.
Check this site on Monday at 7am in case there are any changes due to the weather. Hope to see you there. Happy Columbus Day.
Join me for this C+ ride, which will average 11.7 - 12..6; no one gets dropped and we will be observing spacing rules, etc. Ride route will be determined by the road conditions; decision to be made the morning of the ride; no cue sheets. We hope you will join us in Albany on October 17th & 18th! More information including a preliminary list of great sessions and speakers is at the Summit Home Page.

Founded in 1990, NYBC is the only statewide organization focused primarily on cycling. We work with local bike clubs and advocacy organizations like yours to unite, inspire, and support the New York cycling community and to provide a cohesive voice for people who ride bikes across New York State. The Bike Summit is a great way for us to convene as a community and build a network for real change in New York!

Leaving from The Maples, this will be a paceline ride to Westhampton Beach, with Pleasure (Drive, that is)! We'll mix up the route this time, to keep things from being the same old thing!
We'll call this a B+, due to the long rises and rolling terrain, with a few hills mixed in... The average could be slightly lower than a B+, due to the route and the stronger winds out East!
We'll have a food stop in Westhampton Beach at 25.5 miles. Then it's back via the Casa Basso and Old Country Road leading us to the return in Manorville.
Off to Bean and Bagel, on mostly local streets in Manorville and Calverton, and on the Grumman Trail. To join the ride, text Bill G. at 631-356-3036 with your full name and date of ride. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 07:45am.
This is a scenic tour of the Nissequoge beachs and backroads. The ride starts and ends with a long flat stretch. We'll ride at a brisk B- on the flats slower up hill and faster down. We'll be patient on the hills so this is a good ride to try your hill ability. Restoom/water stops but bring snacks. Park in the rear of the lot across from LIttle Vincent's and join up for arguably one of Long Islands best slices after the ride (CASH ONLY).

This should be a normal A ride this week as Jeremy's ride will also go out led by Chris or Jeremy. Let's have a no surge ride except where those who want to normally fly. Fun for all, hope to see you there!
This week I'll be leading an A+ ride. We are going to do the route that I usually use. No golf course of pleasure drive. I won't be the protagonist on this ride...hopefully the usual crew will show up (minus Jeremy....he is away) and do their thing.
I am in Cali this week, so John Mueller has graciously stepped up to lead in my absence. Thanks, John!
***No A ride at this location. A Rides happen at Kreb Eastport location, same day & time***

Scenic ride through the Hamptons and out to Sag Harbor. Stops at Tates Bakery, Sag Harbor and possibly Wolfer Vineyard if they are open when we pass by.
Check back Friday night for possible changes and final RwGPS route. Ride is a GO. Route now posted below.
Meet at the main parking lot, just north of Wiskey Road. Casual B, may do some expert loops depending on the group. More of a taking rests and enjoying the ride type of ride. Rocky Point closes to riders in a few days.
Unfortunately, I am sick and will have to reschedule.
Come join us for a new variation on the East End Ride series, as we head up to Springs and the scenic area by Gerard's Point. We will head out on a journey that includes beautiful riding, amazing vistas, and the scenic inlet by Gerad's Point, and did I mention water views. Weekday Southfork rides, like this one, start at the Hampton Bays LIRR train station (there is free parking) to avoid as much as possible the morning trade parade traffic jam that exists during the morning rush beyond Hampton Bays.
Overall, we will be running much of the ride as more of a tour, enjoying the scenery, surroundings and views; nonetheless, riders should be able to maintain at least 15-16 mph on the flats when necessary (like our interludes on Montauk Highway). Our ride ends at the Amaganset train station, where we will take the train back to Hampton Bays. Train ride is supposed to be a bit over 35 minutes. Please bring funds for the train ticket and a bungee cord to hang your bike.
We will be making a brief stop where one can hopefully buy some food (not sure it is open), so, its a good idea to bring some food, snacks and sufficient hydration. We will make a few stops where one will have time for a quick snack or sandwich, but we will have an eye to make sure we make our return train. Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore and discover.
To join the ride or if you have questions, please text Bill Mastro at 917-921-5358. Registraion may have to be limited, as we don't want to overwhelm the train on the return trip. I will share the final (I'm always tweaking) ridewithgps file with those who contact me. Any updates or weather issues will be posted to the ride listing by 7:00 on the day of the ride.
This will be an easy C+ ride around Center Moriches, that will average 11.8 - 12.5 and will be taking our break at Nettie's. There are some very nice water views along the way. First time for this ride coordination ... I plan to start 7 miles into Robin's Wed Hill ride ... and expect to be passed somewhere within the first 10 miles on the same hills that Robin is doing ... if we get to the turn around at "my street" first I'd be surprised! I hope having us in front doesn't get the hounds chasing the hare and generate too much of a challenge for the Big Guys ;-). There's a cutoff at the 18 mile mark if we're too beatup in the hills ;-) ...
CHANGES: Anyone who wants to start with me should figure to hang on my ride rather than jumping between the different paces AND depending how I feel when I reach the start of the 7% climb up Zophar Mills, I may wait for you until you descend Gabriel Mill Rd ... total distance of 0.5 miles.
Contact me (631-988-6557) if you plan to join us and I'll contact you directly if there's any changes AND you'll only have to add your signature to the Ride Sign In sheet.
Please call or txt if you plan to join (347-922-3824). If I don't hear from enough people, I may cancel or change this ride. So pls check posting Thurs morn. Change will be posted by 7am.
Halloween Ride!! Come join me for the last ride of the SBRA year. Let's ride the forecasted wind out to Montauk (SW@14mph) and celebrate with a nice cold beer at THE END (Pumpkin Ake at Montauk Brewery). This will be a one-way ride and we'll take the LIRR back home. I plan to make stop in Southampton for some breakfast treats at Tates bakery and then another hydration/rest room stop in East Hamptons before taking the final stretch to Montauk (THE END). Well, it's not really all the way to THE END. The metric takes us into the town of Montauk. For those of us who want to take it all the way to the lighthouse (I usually do), pls tack on another 10 miles plus some add'l elevation. Group pic at the lighthouse. If time permits, we'll also grab some lunch out there. If we run tight on time, we can always pick up deli sandwiches in town and eat on the train.
Pack sufficient hydration and food to eat along the ride and bring some $$/credit card for lunch and train fare home. No bike permit required anymore for LIRR. Tickets can be purchased at station or you can use the MTA TrainTime app.
Trains leave Montauk at 12:58pm, 2:46pm and 4:52pm. It's about a 75 min ride back to Speonk so you can make it back home in time for the trick-or-treater's.
An easy roll out to Bean and Bagel on less traveled roads with long straightaways. Cruising speeds 15-17 mph. Check calendar before leaving your home, any changes will be posted by 7:00 am.
Meet at The Maples for a howl of a ride to Westhampton Beach. This wll be a structured paceline ride, but let's keep this one in control!
The outbound loop takes us down Route 24 and onto County Roads 104 and 31, past the Airport to the Beach. We'll then have a stop at around 24 miles, for a food stop.
The return loop takes us up the Casa Basso, and onto Old Country Road and finally back to Manorville.
