NOTE:
Under the Ride Level details, the "Type: Road Bike" refers to the ride will be on paved roads (rather then off road trails). Although a Road Bike is suggested for Road Bike Type rides it is not required. Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride. This ride calendar is for club rides, club meetings, club event posts and shop rides only.
For Other Events in our area and off Long Island check out the "Other Rides & Events calendar" and the "Forums"

We will be leaving Back of American in East Islip heading to Great River and into Heckscker park and the East Islip area. The restroom break will be at Timber Point Gulf Course. Then heading North into Central Islip for a few miles before returning to the bank. Please bring your snacks and drinks for this ride.
This is a B- ride with an average speed of 14.5 to 15mph, road speeds may reach 16-17mph. Check the ride calender for any changes posted by 7:00am day of the ride.
It looks like the rain will be South of us and will miss us. 07:15am update: Ride is on. If you have lights, bring them. Rain gear is a good idea also. Off to Briermere's for pie or other treats. If you want to share a pie, bring singles and quarters. Note: we need a minimum of 4 pie eaters to share a pie. Their will be a brief stop to view the farm that has American Bison, hopefully they will be in a nearby field, so we can see them from the road. For info: phone/text Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar for any changes, which will be posted by 07:00am day of ride. Do not park in Papa Joseph's lot, park on Chapman, the side road next to the restaurant.
Were off to Briermere and maybe meet up with Bill and his Group for the rest stop, speed will be determined by the wind, who shows up, how the leader feels that day, not to exceed the SBRA guidelines for a C paced ride, no one left behind, Cell Phone 631-484-1650 call for info 7am-8pm.
We'll change-up the ride to Briermere Farms with a route change. This week, we'll return along the river road, for a change of scenery. The eastbound loop will include a section of the windy fields we love so much.
So meet at the South Street School and get ready for another trip to Briermere. As always, let's keep the group together, so no one is left alone in the wind...we'll give you a place or two to stretch your legs.
Check the morning of the ride for any weather-related delays or cancellation; the weather is unpredictable these days.
This will be the start of the Seagull Century training rides. You don’t have to be doing the century to go on any of these rides. However, if you would like to know more about this century click on this link - http://seagullcentury.org/ For some riders who did the century last year click on this link - http://seagullcentury.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/SGC_Brochure_Final_17.pdf - to see if you are in the 2017 Seagull Century registration brochure group photo.
Now, let’s talk about the training rides. Each week the ride will increase by 5 miles; give or take. This way you won’t feel so bad when you eat that extra donut. By the time all the training rides are completed I’m sure you’ll be able to do an easy 100 miles on a flat scenic course. Since these training rides are a shared effort I would hope that riders would come forward and help in the pulling. During the weeks I am unable to ride Chris Musso will be taking my place.
The first ride will be the one I did a few weeks ago; chowder/desert. It’s a scenic ride through Eastport, Remsenburg, Westhampton Beach and points east. The wind direction will determine the route to be taken. If we have a westerly wind we’ll use Dune Road as part of the route; great for those break-a-ways. If the wind doesn’t cooperate we’ll use the inland route which is different, but just as nice.
The average pace for the ride will be between 14.5 and 15.0 mph, depending on the roads and wind direction, the ride could come in a tad faster, meaning in the lower “B” range.
We’ll be making a rest, food, and bathroom stop at Tully’s around mile 22 for some great clam chowder or other stuff. Peddle for another 10 miles or so and we stop at the Beach Bakery for desert. After that, another 7 miles and training ride one is "under your belt". If this all sounds like fun, it is, come out and join us.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute changes which will be posted no later than 7:30am. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call or text if you need additional information about the ride, start location or the Seagull Century…Thanks
