No remorse for an Australian driver

In Koroit, Australia, The Standard is reporting that a 21 year old woman was fined $4000 and her license was suspended for 9 months after the vehicle she was driving struck a cyclist. The cyclist suffered injuries including a spinal fracture and spent 3 months in recovery.

Records show that, on her way home from a supermarket, she used her phone 44 times, sending and receiving 22 text messages to seven different phones. She received a text message 51 seconds before calling the equivalent of our 911.

Two days after the incident, the driver told police, "I just don't care because I've already been through a lot of B***S*** and my car is like pretty expensive and now I have to fix it. " " I'm kind of pissed off that the cyclist has hit the side of my car. I don't agree that people texting and driving could hit a cyclist. I wasn't on my phone when I hit the cyclist."
