A pleasant trip out to the point from Sag Harbor. One planned stop at 7-11 on the way back. I would like to be done by 11 so we can beat the traffic out of there. This can be a pleasant way to visit the point and not log 110+ miles.
For those of you who have never gone to the point, it is hilly and might surprise you. It's a good idea to go past the town of Montauk before you do the Tour Of The Hamptons.
We will be riding about 15 car free miles on the Grumman trail, free of Labor Day traffic. Our break will be at mile 14 at the McDonald's in Manorville. There is a bagel shop next door if you are in the mood for one. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 06:45am.
Bring $ or snacks for a deli stop in Yapank. This ride will average between 14.0-14.5mph with cruising speeds slightly higher. There is a rumor that a long lost bike friend will be riding with us and she has a brand new bike.
Join me for a ride around Holbrook, Ronkonkoma, and Bohemia, then down to Sayville and back up to Ronkonkoma and the ride start. We will take our break at the Gourmet Bagel Co. on Lakeland Ave., where beverages, food, and a bathroom are available.

Depending on wind, tide and position of moon we will ride approx. 20ish miles at a 10-11.5 mph pace from Ronk station. Be ready to roll at posted time with water, fully inflated tires and helmet. Newbies always welcome and well taken care of and nobody gets left behind. Be there or be square. Cancellation for any reason will be posted by 8am.

Leaving the Riverhead waterfront we ride along the North Shore of Peconic Bay, with scenic views of the Bay and a vineyard. We make a porta-potty (well maintained) stop at mile nine. At about mile 15 we stop at a deli in Cutchogue for a coffee, or snack, and a real indoor bathroom. We than head up North, passing farms and vineyards, and a view of the LI sound. Continuing East thru farmland, we than go South to Rt. 25 and head to Scoops and Grinds for ice cream or coffee which will be enjoyed in their shaded backyard, complete with picnic tables. If you are hungry, the adjacent Braun's seafood has a variety of soups and seafood wraps. Braun's has been around for ninety years, has 3 antique cars for viewing, and a tented shady area for eating. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 06:30am.

Join us as we travel scenic backroads thru the Stonybrook-Setauket area: historic places, great views, great sunsets, great folks. We are a diverse group out for an enjoyable ride and fun nite. There are places to stretch your legs ahead and wait ups after climbs. But please note this is not a "race ride". Apres ride dinner.
PLEASE - bring/use lights if you have them. This is likely the last ride at this later time...sunset is earlier and the roads we ride have lots of shady trees that add to the diminished daylight. We will have to skip some portion of the route given the daylight. Will likely cut out West Meadow Beach.
PARKING NOTE: School and work is back in full swing and parking may be tight at the RR lot. If you don't see a spot, exit the lot and go right. Park behind Sterling National Bank (just west of the RR lot and Quaker Path traffic light).
Check ride calendar for any changes or cancellations by 4:30pm the day of ride.
Off to Quogue, with 7 miles on Dune Road and a snack/rest stop at the Westhampton Bakery. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 06:45am.
Here is a ride for Jose, Ron, Valerie, Nancy (you can drive out with me) and others who are looking for easy and almost completely flat (no Mill Rd.) ride around Calverton and Manorville. We are leaving early to "beat the heat" and will stop at Bean & Bagel for our break. A portion of the ride will also include the new bike path, which has very little rider traffic mid-week. The ride will average 11.4 - 12.0, with cue sheets.
We will meet at Mi Tierrita Restaurant and ride to Smith's Point County Park with a short rest stop at Wertheim Wildlife Refuge. Dont forget to bring a snack for a break at the beach. At the end of the ride we are invited to have empanadas at Eduardo's Mi Tieritta Restaurant. The ride will average around 15mph depending on wind speeds, heat and humidity.
Yes thats right 35miles. This is for all who asked for more miles and less hills. I heard you! we will ride the same route the only difference being right when we come over Jessup Lane Bridge and heading to Cupsogue Beach. Stopping for a short break to enjoy the beautiful beach. Then on to the Post Lane Bridge and Market Deli. After a break heading back the new way on Dune. When we hit South Country Straight to Main and to KK (no hills). See you There!!!
The plan is to bike out to Montauk from East Islip BoA and take the LIRR back home. Trains depart Montauk at 3:30pm, 5:26pm and 7:33pm.Train ride back to Great River station takes approximately 2hrs (3 min bike ride from Great River LIRR station back to BoA parking lot).
I suggest riders bring two water bottles, some energy snacks for the ride and extra $$ for rest stops/lunch/train fare). We will make hydration/rest stops approximately every 20-25 miles. Depending on when we arrive in Montauk (and what shape we're in when we get there - lol) we can discuss options (extend ride to lighthouse, sit-down lunch in town, Gosman's Dock, etc.).
Please check this posting again Friday evening for any additional updates.
If you are interested in this ride or have any questions, please let me know by 9pm Fri. FYI - The LIRR has the right to limit the number of bikes they allow on each train so I need to get a rough headcount. Please call or txt my cell (number below).I’ve done this ride several times and never had a problem with LIRR but you never know.
Special note: Riders will need a Bike Permit so you can bring your bike on the train. The permit cost is $5 but it is good for life (unless you lose it) and it can be purchased on the train without a penalty fee. You will also need to purchase a one-way off-peak ticket for ride home (approx $10) and should be purchased prior to boarding. LIRR ticket machine is at the station.
The Orient Express ride. Leaving Port Jeff Sta. (7AM Sharp) on Canal Rd., to Whiskey Rd., to Ridge Rd., to 25A, to Sound Ave. & on out to Orient Pt. & back. Must be self sufficent. Newbies always welcome and well taken care of and nobody gets left behind. Be there or be square. Cancellation for any reason will be posted by 8am.
Ok so this is a totally new route for me so please help me and download it to your Garmin. We have a deli stop at mile 28. This ride is a new rote but I am sure we will have some surging however there will always be a regroup.
I WILL BE DOING BOBBY'S RIDE, SAME PACE, LENGTH, ROUTE AND STOPS

LOOKS LIKE A PERCIPITATION EVENT FOR THE WHOLE DAY SO RIDE CANCELLED - STILL MEETING AT JR'S 12:30 FOR LUNCH
Ride 23ish miles around Calverton/Manorville at a 10.5-11.5 pace and after the ride go to JR's for lunch. Hopefully other ride leaders will post also. As always nobody left behind and Newbies always welcome. Any cancellation will be by 8am.
THIS IS ONE REASON SOME PEOPLE CAN'T LOSE WEIGHT BY BIKE RIDING. Everyone had a great time on this ride for the last two years, so we are doing it again! There will be a number of ride leaders with different distances and speeds, so pick the one which suites you.
This year, however, we are starting the ride from the Calverton Memorial Park. Once we return from the ride will just drive a short distance down the road to J&R's for lunch (at your own cost). We are not making reservations for tables or giving a head-count, and will figure out the seating when we get there. Since this is a Monday, and the past 2 times were weekend days, we expect the restaurant shouldn't be very busy.

THIS IS ONE REASON SOME PEOPLE CAN'T LOSE WEIGHT BY BIKE RIDING. Everyone had a great time on this ride two and three years ago, so we are doing it again!
Since this is a Monday, and the past 2 times were weekend days, we expect less people will be able to participate and the restaurant shouldn't be very busy.
My ride will be a C+/B-, with an average of 13.6 - 14.0.
Route Change: We will be riding around Manorville and Calverton, then up to Wildwood State Park for our break. We'll return down to the bike path and then follow it around the property, back to the ride start. There will be cue sheets and nobody left behind.
Posting another level of ride to join in the celebration of Tom's birthday. Read other posts for more info but if you choose, you can join us at JRs for lunch afterwards (self pay). You can do the ride and not come for lunch. I'm not sure of exact route and mileage yet but it'll be close to what's posted.
Paceline training along cr51, 111, Mill Rd and cr24. Everyone will pull for 30 seconds then peel off for the next rider up. 5 miles cool down to the parking lot at the end of the ride. It's a great way to improve your fitness and not get dropped. Optional loop to Westhampton with a stop for a social at the Beach Bakery
Off to Briermere's with a stop to view the Bison if they are in a field visable from the road. If you want to share a pie, and there are enough riders to do so, bring singles and change. For info: contact Bill Gravitz at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar for changes, which would be posted by 07:00am, day of ride.
Join with riders of all ages for a leisurely ride to Smith Point. We'll make a short stop at the Wertheim visitors center on Smith Rd. to meet with anyone who would like to join us at that point. Leader will maintain a 12 to 13 mph cruising speed. No one will be dropped. Call me at 631 747-6378 if you have any questions. Any change will be posted by 8 am of the ride date.
Sorry, I'll have to cancel again. I had skin surgery and I have been advised not to ride for at least a week.
Scenic south shore ride around Bayshore, Islip, E Islip & Great River with a loop around Heckscher Park. There will be several segments where riders can stretch their legs. After the ride join us for "Taco Tuesday" at Jackson Hall ($2 tacos & $5 margaritas all night long).
If the ride gets cancelled due to rain, we will still meet at Jackson Hall @ 6pm.
I'll be leading Joe's South Shore ride tonight from Oakdale to Corey Beach, there won't be any food stops so be sure to pack a snack and drinks for a break at Corey Beach. Be sure to wear bright colored clothing and lights. I'm going to wear red white and blue and try to pick up some flags to put on our bikes in honor of Patriot day.
We'll need to leave on time since we're losing daylight.
Feel free to call/text 631-793-8298 if you have any questions regarding this ride.

Let's see if we get it now...soft pedal means going easy! Recovering from the hills and saving any big efforts for the weekend. This is a recovery ride for the A rider.
Come along with me for an easy ride which will start by riding up through part of Stony Brook University on the bike path, then around St. James and back to the start.
We will stop for a break at St. James Bagels, where a bathroom is available, and there will be cue sheets.
This is a C+ ride, which will average between 12.5 and 12.9.
This ride was originally posted for 9/15 with a Cupsogue destination, but the weather has caused me to rearrange my rides. The ride as listed here leaves from Maples Bar in Manorville and goes to Bean and Bagel, with appx. 15 miles on the Grumman Trail. Optional lunch at Maples Bar. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Note: the weather is iffy for Thursday. I road Tuesday and Wed. and the weather held up ok, but be sure to check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 07:30am.
Let's do Bobby's Mi Tierrita Ride. We will meet at the restaurant and ride to Smith's Point where we will have break at the beach. Please bring your own snacks if needed. When we come back, we are all invited to have empanadas with fellow rider and restaurant owner, Eduardo. This ride will try to average 15mph depending on the weather.
Thursday 7:15am update - roads wet here and some lingering showers, but looks like it is moving out here. Will delay start to 9:30am. I will be at the ride start then and we'll see what we can do!
Please note: This ride leaves from Port Jefferson Home Goods...not Stony Brook.
PARKING:Meet near the clothing donation drop bins (on the eastern side of the center) where there are plenty of parking spots. I will be riding from home, but will be at the ride start @ 8:45am for sign in.
We'll head to Poquott, Strong's Neck, Old Field and West Meadow. Back via Lower Sheep Pasture. So...there are hills, but wait ups as needed and places to stretch your legs if you wish. Will look to come in @ 13.5, given the hills.
Please bring snacks and water...there is no formal deli/rest break but we will take short breaks at both the Lighthouse and West Meadow (bathrooms may be closed at West Meadow, but there is a port-o-potty).
Any changes will be posted here by 7:45am.

9/12, 12:30pm update: Looking at the late afternoon forecast, I’m not willing to risk riding in the rain and diminished daylight. So… am moving this ride to Thursday morning, leaving Port Jefferson Station. Details will be updated tonight.
Leave work a little early...and join us as we travel scenic backroads thru the Stonybrook-Setauket area: historic places, great views, great sunsets, great folks. We are a diverse group out for an enjoyable ride and fun nite. There are places to stretch your legs ahead and wait ups after climbs. But please note this is not a "race ride". Apres ride dinner.
PLEASE - bring/use lights if you have them. And wear bright clothing. We'll squeeze another evening ride in with a slightly earlier start time. But sunset is earlier and the roads we ride have lots of shady trees that add to the diminished daylight, so bring and where whatever hi-vis gear you have. And we will cut out West Meadow, given the daylight.
PARKING NOTE: School and work is back in full swing and parking may be tight at the RR lot. If you don't see a spot, exit the lot and go right. Park behind Sterling National Bank (just west of the RR lot and Quaker Path traffic light).
Check ride calendar for any changes or cancellations by 4:00pm the day of ride.
Come along and see what the renown Kreb ride is all about ... Except for our 5 minute head start we'll tag-along Alley's tag-along of the Kreb ride as they do the North route. As they pass us feel free to carefully jump on the end of the line and hold on aslong as you can. We will have hill top wait ups once we get to the top the E. Bartlett hill in Middle Island.
Be sure to check back Thursday evening after 8:30 PM ....
Subscribe to this ride posting and get an update within an hour of my changes or check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Nothing is Permanent ... Life Happens and Things Change!!
Running late to the Ride Start ...np ... just PULL OVER and call my cell below.
This is one of my favorite rides. The scenery is outstanding and the roads are generally quiet. What more could you want on a ride? Anyway, I hope you will join me. We will make a stop at the Quogue Wildlife Refuge for a bathroom break and then head on over to the West Hampton Beach Bakery. Any changes or cancellation will be posted by 7:30 am.
SORRY SOMETHING HAS COME UP THAT I MUST ATTEND ON THIS DAY.
Not sure of exact route but likely going to Bellport. Mileage could vary by a little. Park in overflow lot south of the RR station. Maybe pizza or Ralphs after the ride.
This is the last training ride for the TOH. Unlike last week we will set a steady pace for the first 35 miles. That will be the first rest stop. The next wait up will be the top of 51.
This is a training ride at a longer distance so I want to keep the surging at a minimum. There may be a faster group that goes ahead, I will not chase. I want to ride on Sunday (think Beach Bakery).
Oh boy lets try again this week and hope that the sun shines on us and our fellow cyclists. The usual Manorville route which is lovely this time of year !
40 miles with an optional loop on Mill Hill if weather is kind.
This is going to be the same ride as Henry's last Saturday ride from Oakdale RR to Bellport Docks with a stop at the Deli for those who want breakfast. This is hopefully going to be the same ride turn by turn as Henry's last week ride that is if my new GPS is working correctly. If not I am certain we will not get lost. Of course check ride calendar at 8 am in case of rain cancellation.
Borrowing a route from Dick C. Going to Manorville for a break at McD's, bagel store or 7-11. Always check back for any changes, which would be posted no later than 6:30 am.
Join me for this C+ ride from Sayville to Bellport, where we'll stop at the Bellport dock to view the Great South Bay. Either bring a snack or you may purchase something in Bellport on the way to the dock.
This is a structured ride which will average 12.3 - 12.7, depending on wind, riders, etc. There will be cue sheets and no one will be dropped.
NOTE: Park on the South Side of the train station.
Ride to Peconic via New Suffolk and Indian Neck. Food Break at Cutchogue Deli and stops at Iron Pier and Briermere. Any changes by 7:30. My Cell 646-643-6856

Note: Park at the far end of the King Kullen lot, nearest to Montauk Highway. From Eastport, we wil ride out to WesthamptonBeach, than cross the bridge to Dune road, and head West to Cupsogue County Park. We might see some nice wave action due to hurricane Florence. There are bathrooms at the park. We will than head East on Dune road for 8 miles and take the bridge into Quogue where we will make a couple of scenic stops. Next stop will be the Quogue Preserve, where bathrooms are availabe. Our final stop will be at the Westhampton Bakery. If you don't want the hassle of bees at the bakery, we can go one block further to Goldberg's bagels. Optional: Pizza or salads at the pizza place in the King Kullen shopping center where our cars are parked.
Last week we did this ride with wet and cold conditions, let's see if we can have nicer weather. There will be an option to add on 51 and 111 depending on how smart we are Saturday. That will make for an even 50 miles.
Wait ups when necessary so let's keep it together.
I WILL BE DOING BOBBY'S RIDE, SAME PACE, LENGTH, ROUTE AND STOPS. Hopefully no Rain!

Since we'll probably hit some windy sections, let's ride like a team and make sure that no one loses the paceline and is left alone in the wind!
And now a word from the sponsors of the Thunderbirds: Thunderbird wine. Who needs that fancy expensive craft beer, when you can have the taste of Thunderbird, for a fraction of the cost! And what you don't drink you can put in your gas tank!
Depending on wind, tide, position of moon and ride leaders disposition we will ride approx. 20ish miles at an 11-11.5 average speed. As always newbies always welcome and NOBODY gets left behind. So get off your butt, and lets ride for some exercise. Cancellation for any reason will be posted by 8:00AM. Anyone for pizza at the rides end?

My apologies. I have to change the date of this ride from Sunday to Saturday. Sorry for any inconvenience.
*********************************
My yearly pilgrimage to Coney Island for a hot dog and a beer via mostly boardwalks and bike paths. The route goes Long Beach Boardwalk (BW), Altantic Beach BW, Far Rockaway BW, and over the Marine Park Bridge to Brooklyn. There'll be some city streets through Sheepshead Bay and Brighton Beach, so be prepared for some slightly more intense riding.
We'll recharge our engines at Nathan's... (limit 2 beers please)... then return east all the way on the Belt Parkway bike path, passed Canarsie Piers, through Howard Beach, and over the Cross Bay Bridge into Far Rock. From there we'll backtrack to Long Beach.
Although posted as a B+, this will be a somewhat casual ride. Aside afew long straight segments (where there's an opportunity for faster riders to go ahead without getting lost), the open-road-pace will be in the 17-18mph range, although this will be off-set substantially by much slower riding on boardwalks and some city streets. The bridges and Belt Pkwy overpasses are the only hills. The rest of the route is dead flat.
The likelihood of a couple long fast straightaways should not discourage strong "B" riders from coming along. Bring a partner. Obviously, this is a no drop ride and wait-ups if necessary will be no problem. There are an abundance of water/food stops available and restroom options all along the way, but bring snacks and gels. I have no set time frame for how long the ride will take, but we should be back at the cars by around 3:30pm.
I'm nobody's fool, let's take it easy before the Tour of the Hamptons. We'll launch from the usual place, but this time we'll land at Smith Point. While a paceline ride, this will be an easy spin ride, so if you want a workout - bring your mountain bike or fixie! Everyone can take their own pace down William Floyd parkway to the beach, but otherwise we stay together!
We'll have a short stop at the beach, with an optional stop at the 7-Eleven before the beach.
If you've wanted to try a ride at a higher level, this is your chance!
This will be a C+ ride which will average 12.5 - 12.9 and there will be cue sheets.
NOTE: for couples that ride different levels, this matches up well with Tom's C ride at 9:30AM.
Depending on wind, tide and position of moon we will ride approx. 23ish miles at a 10-11.5 mph pace from Ronk station. Be ready to roll at posted time with water, fully inflated tires and helmet. Newbies always welcome and well taken care of and nobody gets left behind. Be there or be square. Cancellation for any reason will be posted by 8am.
We'll either head north into Manorville and Calverton with a food/rest stop at Bean & Bagel or head east to Westhampton Beach and Quogue with a food/rest stop at Beach Bakery. Mileage is approximate, the north route would be closer to 27 miles and the east route would be closer to 23 miles. Cancellation for any reason will be posted by 7AM.
Join me and Brenda for an early ride from the Yaphank Firehouse out to Manorville, where we will take a bathroom/snack break at McDonald's. We will travel over some of the newly paved roads in Manorville.

We will take a casual B- ride from Sunshine Mall to McDonalds in Manorville for breakfast. The weather is looking good lower 70's so it should be perfect riding day. Please check back to website just in case weather changes, any need to cancel will be posted by 8am.
Briermere will be our rest stop will adjust speed to the slowest rider no one left behind there wiil be go aheads for the faster riders Questions call cell phone 631-484-1650 after 7am and before 8pm please.
This ride will include pretty beach view at Shoreham, then on to Cedar Beach for a brief rest stop and view of beach. Most of this ride is flat, rolling but there will be a hill or two especially to get out of Cedar Beach. We will do wait ups at tops of hills and no one will be dropped. Plus the pace will be mild with of course faster speeds on the flats. We will head out to Shoreham via Whiskey Road and return along Lower Rocky Pt Rd. There will be optional stop at McNulty's Ice Cream Parlor toward end of ride. Please bring enough snacks and water as there is no planned lunch stop. Please check back by 8:30 am for any changes day of ride.
Good ride for those looking to challenge themselves a little more. Step up from a B/B+ ride, average upper 17's to low 18's. You can ride half with me and half with Bill if you chose.
This scenic ride will head into Manorville using back roads such as Clancy, South Dayton and Barnes. We will then do long loops (cutting out some of the shorter loops) in Moriches, Eastport and Remsenberg. Break will be at Anderson's Deli. Average speed closer to 16.0 mph.
This will be an easy ride in the woods. It will feel like 55F and the winds are starting to blow so it's into the woods for me. The ride will be focused on advanced begineer and intermediate riders. Depending who shows we'll structure the ride around the folks who are least comfortable/capable in the woods.
Check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Life Happens and Things Change.
