I still believe we might still be able to ride Rocky ... I will be there before 9 AM and check out the trail a bit ... otherwise we will head further east at 9:01 ....
It's a maybe and could be a fool's errand if the predicted rain arrives ... can't start off the Rocky season by beating up wet trails ... depending on how much precip arrives we may change the venue to Calverton or BSP. Check back to this posting Sunday night.
A DEC Permit is REQUIRED for parking and trail access. Probably will skip the West side trails this time around.
Check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Life Happens and Things Change.
Running late? PULL OVER and call my cell below ... we'll wait but make you feel lousy about it ...

On Tuesdays we’ll be riding the hills north of Stony Brook, getting up to B- average over the coming months. If you are interested in getting better at hills and can do a C+ pace, now is the time to join us. To start this series, we’ll do a low C+ on the flats and everyone will bike at his own ability (or lack thereof) on the hills. Take the hills at your own pace and we’ll meet at the top. No pressure there.
We go from the ride start to the lighthouse in Old Field. We have our break there at the overlook, so bring your own snack. There is no bathroom stop on this ride.
Questions before ride, my email is [frchtchr@hotmail.com]. Morning of ride, my cell is 631-835-1454. Cancellation for weather will be no later than 8am morning of ride.
Join me for a ride from Riverhead to Mattituck, where we will take a break at the Deli on Love Lane. We will return through Jamesport, up and around Riverhead, and end up at the start.

After a 5 mile warmup we'll head North-NorthWest to Mt. Sinai for a bagel break ... and then head home with the wind at our back. A new route on known roads. Once we head North the pace will be a B with B+ effort into the wind. Short pulls into the wind ... when you hear "Nice Pull ..." you'll know it's time for teamwork.
Check back for changes/cancellations which would be posted by 7 am. Park south of Wendy's for a short, easy meander around back roads. Short stop for a snack (byo).
Were off to Westhampton Bakery for some goodies and exercise it will be a slow easy ride no one left behind please check back day of if weather is questionable I will post any changes 2 hours before ride.

THIS RIDE HAS BEEN CHANGED FROM MONDAY, APRIL 1, TO THURSDAY, APRIL 4, DUE TO 18 TO 20MPH WINDS; GUSTING TO 30MPH. AND TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY, WIND CHILLS WILL BE 30 - 38 DEGREES. THURSDAY LOOKS MUCH BETTER.
The objective of this ride is to get lemon scones. For those of you that haven’t had lemon scones at Main Road Biscuit in Jamesport, pucker-up. We will be stopping there 32 miles into the ride. If you don’t like lemon scones, they also have muffins, biscuits, and cookies. I think they use organic sugar—healthy! Don’t worry about getting fat, it’s why I made the ride 56 miles. And to ensure proper digestion, we will keep the ride steady; between 18 and 20 mph, with an ideal cruising speed of 19 mph. Although we will make a speed exception for the “tanks,” where there’s always a tail wind. So come out and enjoy some sweets, with a side of aerobic endurance.
We will be leaving Bank of America and head to Great River and East Islip for a 22/24 mile ride. The ride will be at a B- pace with an average speed of around 14.5 to 15mph and road speeds that will reach 16 to 18mph.

Changed ride date for better weather and shortened to 14 miles. We will go as far as Fire Island National Seashore (Sunken Forest). The boardwalk there is like a wooden rollercoaster. On the fat bike it's a blast! Rolling out to the New Inlet opposite Bellport from the East end of Robert Moses field 5. We will use the wind to our advantage on the beach and scoot through the small towns in the middle of the island against the wind. This is a great scenic ride. Group will stay together at a social pace. Few things are open this time of year so carry what you need. This ride can only be done preseason, and this may be the last one. So come bring your fatty to the beach for some fun. Ride should take about 4-4.5 hours.
Update!! changing the start to 9;30 to give the fog a chance to rolll out. shortening the miles just a bit ..
Today we are starting at Sunshine Mall and will do a slightly longer distance than last weeks ride. Anyone can join, not just those doing the Century. We will be heading east and our stop will be in Manorville.

Recovery Ride for the A crew. We will ride a Double Paceline where ever the Shoulder is wide enough. Zone 1. Make sure you’ve watched Paris Roubaix, cause that what we’ll be chatting about while we recover.
Last year we had "fun" with this ride. Firsta 60 miles 19-20 mph average, last 26 might be faster if we have the legs. One deli stop andof course we stop at the Exxon Station. Check the route and your bikes before you come.
If there are strong winds out of the west, I may change the destination...we will see.
Join me for this C+ ride from Sayville to Patchogue, via some loops and "off the beaten track" roads. We will stop at a the ferry dock in Patchogue for a bathroom break and make a deli stop for a snack.
This is a structured ride which may average 12.1 - 12.7, depending on wind, riders, etc. There will be cue sheets and no one will be dropped.
NOTE: Park on the South Side of the train station.
Check the start time tonight as I might move the ride to 8:30 AM.
Blame the wind! I don't care to do the road with 30+ gusts ... the wind chill will be back down to ~ 34F.
Note the ride will start from the WEST parking lot on Rt. 112 ... The start begins in the middle of "Got 6 Minutes".
Hoping not to wimp out again due to Overton technical sections but planning on doing the Rock Garden + and SOME of other BDs including the Wild Turkey berm + the new section of #6.
Overton has a number of diamonds that are do-able by Intermediate riders ... Got 6 Minutes, BD #1, #2 and #5. There are waitups and the BD's always loop back to the Blue main.
The trail will not be that quiet as I expect the metal crushing or fertilizer grinding ;-( to be going on .
Check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Life Happens and Things Change.
Running late? PULL OVER and call my cell below ... we'll wait but make you feel lousy about it ...
This is a makeup B training ride for the washed out one last Saturday. All are invited.
Modified paceline.
Forecast is for sunny skies. If the wind cooperates and the group is willing, we can increase the mileage. Hopefully the average will be a fast B or slow B/B+.
Check back for changes and the Ride wih GPS route.
On Tuesdays we’ll be riding the hills north of Stony Brook, getting up to B- average over the coming months. If you are interested in getting better at hills and can do a C+ pace, now is the time to join us. Update – 4/21 – 7:35am. Well, I guess the Easter bunny wants me to change the start time...It looks like this mess will be over in an hour. So, I am going to DELAY the start to 10am; giving the roads a chance to dry. If there are any other changes I will post by 8:30am. However, I think the ride will go! Any questions, text me 631.484.3490, nice things only.
Today's’ route to Great River will change up a bit towards the end of the ride, if the wind is in our favor; making this route pretty flat except for 2 overpasses. We will go the usual route heading south using the Connetquot Park bike bath. We’ll work our way down to Heckscher Park, do a loop where one can stretch the legs a bit if desired. The average pace for this ride will be between 14.5 & 15.0 +/- mph, or what conditions allow. The road speed will be between 15 and 16.5 mph, or slower if needed for safety concerns.
We’ll be making a rest stop around mile 19 at the deli/bakery. The route back will be determined by the wind direction. Good Stuff after the Ride. Not sure what good stuff; it's always a surprise.

*** It appears that the rain will linger around until about 10:00 AM, so I am delaying the ride start until 10:15 AM. ***
Since the delay could cut into peoples' holiday, i've flattened the course out and decreased the distance to about *** 39 miles *** , so we'll get back a little faster. But, the Easter Bunny said we should have a treat, so besides Briermere, we'll visit Area 51!
Thunderbirds, this time we'll take a ride out to Briermere Farms, before heading south to find Pleasure Drive and the airport climb. Then we'll wave at the giant swordsmen, as we travel towards home.
Since it's a holiday and the Easter Bunny may have a tight schedule, we can shorten the route if the group needs to get back early to catch the bunny.
Need to get back for Easter Dinner? Take this approx. 1hr C ride from Ronkonkoma RR station. Newbies alwasy welcome and well taken care of and nobody gets left behind. Any cancellation by 8:30am. Ride pace will be 10.6-11.6mph.
Come on, burn off some calories before you pig out!
Join me for this mid-morning ride, which will still give you enough time to get home for a holiday meal!
This will be a C+ ride from Sayville to either Bellport or Ronkonkoma - direction will depend on the prevailing winds, etc. There will be a break & bathroom stop wherever we go.
This is a structured ride which will average 12.1 - 12.7.
NOTE: Park on the South Side of the train station.
Check in for any changes due to the weather. If the roads are wet or a mess from Saturdays rain I will cancel. Heading east then south to Woodlot, Longwood Rd., Yaphank, looping through River Rd. Gerard & back. Park on side lot by TJ Max (Shoprite no longer Pathmark) MY cell 631 9220632.
Ride is still on. Note: This is a loop ride, so if we stay on the Grumman Loop we are never more than 5 miles from our cars. Bottom line, If it rains, we won't drown. The additional 5 miles on roads can be modified to keep us a short distance from our cars. Breakfast at B&B with 2 loops on Gruman trail and 5 miles on Roads. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 07:30am day of ride.
This ride will be a short 31 mi loop around DJ’s Area 51.A perfect area to transition from the weekend rides to the week ahead of us.We will leave Veterans Memorial Park and maintain a cruising speed of 19 to 22mph; nice and smooth.I hope to see you there.
ride moved from Monday to Tuesday to take advantage of a nice, sunny day.
Park in lot across from Kreb's. If the wind isn't too bad, I'd like to head to Smith Point. The ride can be shortened to 20 miles or less if we don't go all the way to the beach. Check back for any changes which would be posted by 7 am. Pace might be in the low C+ range but don't let that deter you from coming if you are a C rider.
Meet near the Dunkin Donuts at the Pine Plaza parking lot, corner of Pine Rd. and Rte. 112. We'll head south, stopping at the Wertheim Wildlife Preserve at mile 18 for a short break, and then at Smith's Point for lunch at mile 23. You can pick up food at the deli, 7-11, or bring your own. This isn't the most scenic route, but we will get the mileage in. I'm aiming for mid C+/B- range. Check back after 7:00 am day of ride for any changes. Call my cell if you have any questions.
This morning it might be nice to take a ride through Bellport and Patchogue stopping for a break at Mickey D’s around mile 20. Naturally, the road speed will be higher (15 -16.5 mph.) to produce the average. Depending on the wind and the route back we might be +/- a mile.

The weather is looking good for a mid-week flight to Briermere Farms. So put in for a vacation day, and get ready to ride! We'll have some 60 degree weather and some sun, or at least that's what's predicted! Plan on a controlled paceline ride on a new route to Brieremere.
The return leg from Briermere sees us riding through Area 51, along the infamous Alien Highway. So, keep an eye out for any suspiciously fast riders, who may have alien technology in their bikes. We humans will stay together and ride as a team!
Since schools are closed this week, the parking should be open at the School. But let's keep our parking at the east end of the lot, so we don't bother any office workers - who may still have to come into work. If there any parking issues, just a half block east of the School on your left is Ryerson Avenue; it's a quiet road that is lightly traveled and should have space for parking.
We'll start by doing the Westside extension and maybe skip the Waterbottle and Half Pipe BDs so they'll be something left for Fern Valley and maybe even try Shorty for the first time this year.
DEC Permit is REQUIRED for parking and trail access.
Check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Life Happens and Things Change.
Running late? PULL OVER and call my cell below ... we'll wait but make you feel lousy about it ...
Note: This ride was originally scheduled for Friday, but changed due to a rainy forecast. Off to Briermere, with a quick stop to view the American Bison, if they are in a field near the road. If you are interested in sharing a pie, bring singles and change. I supply the papergoods and cutlery. If you are celebrating Passover, just bring your own snack. Briermere's has bathrooms, and coffee, not tea. There is a lovely assortment of goods available at Briermere's, but if you are on a diet, bring your own snack. Brisk winds will change the speed of the ride, or possibly the ride destination or starting point. It is necessary to check the ride calendar for changes, which would be posted the day of the ride by 07:45am. The ride was also changed to a C+.
Today's Mi Tierrita ride will be going to Smith’s Point or the Marina. The route is mostly flat with a small incline here and there. The route on the way back may change depending on the wind.
The average pace for the ride will be between 14.5 to 15.0 mph, depending on the roads and wind direction. The road speed will be between 15 and 16.5 mph.
We'll stop along the way for a bathroom break around mile 10. Don’t forget to bring a snack for the stop along the way.
Do you know what AGUAPANELA is? Come and find out; PARKING: Use the area of the parking lot on the SOUTH side first
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00 am if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call or text anytime if you have questions about the ride or need directions to the start...

Join me for this ride from Bellport to Bohemia, where we will take our break at Cookie's Deli. Looks like the wind may be out of the west (but we know the weather people lie), so we will ride into it for the first half, but then have a good tail wind on the return!
This will be a C+ ride, which will average 12.3 - 12.8.
Thunderbirds, it's time for a metric century! We'll head out east and make a rest stop at Briermere Farms, before we head south to Pleasure Drive. Then it's the airport climb and down to the land where Money Talks (Westhampton Beach and Dune Road): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lqdErI9uss (I'll take a Ferrari, if anyone offers one!).
The return brings us up the rise past the Casa Basso, and into some winds from the west. So, save some energy for the return run!
Let's work together, so no one is left out in the wind!
UPDATE – 04/27/2019 – 7:25am – Predictions for the wind today are. The winds will be, 20-24mph with gusts to 37. I just don’t feel like riding in this. Therefore I am building a sail bike and going to CANCEL the ride. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.
It's off to Manorville. The average pace for the ride will be between 14.5 to 15.0 mph +/- depending on the roads, wind direction, rider ability or other conditions. Naturally, the road speed will be higher (15 -16.5 mph.) to produce the average.

Hey let's get into Rocky Point trails before it gets too warm and the tics & inch worms come out. This will probably be my last post for RP until October! So come join us. We will do the main trail (no Westside Loop) and the group can decide on some of the lesser diamonds such as Mogul one, two & three & Dragon Coaster. We can do wait ups where the trails meet back up. Hence about 13 miles.
Please bring sufficient water & snacks for about 2 hours of riding. There may be two levels such as C+ and B- depending who shows.
With Friday's rain, there is slight chance of cancel if trails threaten to be too muddy so check back by 8:30 am morning of ride. If a cancel is necessary we will do a road ride out of Coram Pines (movieland) center instead at same time.
All the good stuff! 51 backwards then head to Pleasure Drive and MRB for our first stop. (34 miles in). Then the tanks..backwards! Stop at the Exxon Station for a quick break the will head up Edwards to 51, 111 and back.
Make sure your bike is in repair or bring a cell phone. I can only help with flats.
This is a training ride, not a race so I want to keep the pace around 20 mph. The Charlie Birds and Early Birds offer faster and slower rides.
I am starting this ride a bit earlier to hopefully get a headstart on the wind which should be in our face on the way out. We will make a food stop in Sayville and use the restrooms in DD. We will take a quick break at the deli in West Islip to refill our water bottles and a snack. Any changes will be made by 6:00 AM
Due to the forecast for 40 + mile an hour wind gusts tomorrow I am moving the ride to Sunday. Same start time , same route.
I chose this ride so that we will not be that far from our cars if the weather turns on us. We can do a couple of loops on the trail (10 miles each), stop at Bean and Bagel, loop up to Sound Ave. and back, and do another loop South of the trails. Bring rain gear just in case. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes or cancellation, which would be posted by 06:45am.

Ride changed to Monday, from Sunday. Other changes, new location is the Riverhead Waterfront, not senior center. No stop at Scoops/Grinds or Braun's sea food, they are both closed on Monday. Lunch will be on the way back from Nassau Point at either the deli or diner in Cutchogue. This is a scenic ride, with views of Peconic Bay and a vineyard. We will stop for a bathroom break (Porta Potties) at mile 9, and stop at a deli in Cutchogue for real bathrooms, and a chance to snack and buy coffee, etc. at mile 14. The ride than heads up to the L.I. Sound for a brief viewing stop. We than continue on to Nassau Point. Nassau point has a series of hills, if you wish to skip this part you can hang out at the beach, located just before the hills. Since Nassau Point is a peninsular, we will pick you up on our return. On our return we will stop at Braun's Seafood for lunch. This stop will be long enough to order and eat lunch, there is plenty of outdoor seating. Braun's is a takeout restaurant, not a full service restaurant, and bathroom are available. Adjacent to Braun's is Scoops and Grinds, which has ice cream and coffees. From Braun's, our return is 14 more miles. The ride will be at a low end C+/B- pace. Brisk winds will slow the pace. This ride is weather dependent, so be sure to check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which will be posted by 07:30am. This is a long ride, with multiple stops, so plan your day accordingly.
Questions before ride, my email is (frchtchr@hotmail.com). Morning of ride, my cell is 631-835-1454.

Naturally, the road speed will be higher (15 -16.5 mph.) to produce the average. Depending on the wind and the route back we might be +/- a mile.
