The plan over two days (Friday and Sunday) is to ride all the Gold Coast “Hills of Long Island” plus some more hills. You can find a description of some of the hills on SBRA website under “Hills of Long Island”. We will ride up most hills turn around and come back down before moving on to the next hill. Feel free to pass on any hill you wish or simply ride up to your desire and we will meet up at the bottom. Ride up at your own pace and down at your own comfort level. I rate these rides as a B+ with no regard to average MPH but based on difficulty.
Please bring snacks and drinks with you as we will take breaks as needed.
This is the companion ride to the long-running Kreb Shop "A" Ride. This week, we have a brand-new 50 mile route, which will keep us off of the dreaded “big roads.” ;-)

Let's give the Bartlets a try again. They offer a bit of a challenge for poor hill climbers like me, but if we push on through this ride a few times we should get stronger. Although, I must say, it hasn't worked for me yet, but I haven't given up trying. So come on out and suffer with me. The pace will be a B- until we hit the hills then it will be at whatever pace you can do and there will be be a wait-up for me at the end of the Bartlets. We will take a short break at the golf course. Coffee and rolls are available or bring your own snack. Cancelations or changes will be posted by 8 am.

The Goat Ride ride was basically created by Jack Steffens, a great ride leader and hill (and dog) trainer who passed too soon. This ride has a B/B+ rating due to the effort but will probably end up at B/B- pace. We "only" climb ~1880 feet with this ride ;-).

There are bathroom stops along the way, both real and porta potties. We will have a coffee break at a deli in Cutchogue, and an actual lunch break at Braun's sea food, a self-serve restaurant with shaded, outdoor seating. Braun's has excellent seafood and non-seafood wraps. Not hungry, just get a bowl of chowder, or go over to scoops and grinds for great ice cream. Nassau Point will not be included in this ride. For info: contact Bill G, at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which will be posted by 06:45am. This is a long ride, so plan your day accordingly. SATURDAY UPDATE: Depending on when the weather clears-out, we may start a few minutes late! It looks like we'll head to Goldberg's Bagels, as Pete has a gift certificate that needs spending! :) Check tomorrow for updates!
A run out to Briermere, hopefully avoiding the predicted rains for the weekend! (Saturday is more likely the rain day).
Distance can be changed, depending on how well the group plays together, and of course the weather... And as an option, we could instead go to Goldberg's Bagels in Riverhead for a 31 mile ride. (Pete keep that coupon handy!).
Today's’ route will be similar to the Great River route with some added mileage, and a few changes. The changes will bring us through Islip Terrace or East Islip; it will all depend on the wind. The route is pretty flat except for an overpass, here and there.
We will go the usual route, heading south, using the Connetquot Park bike path. We’ll work our way through the Islip’s then down to Heckscher Park, do a loop where one can stretch the legs a bit if desired. The average pace for this ride will be between 14.5 & 15.0 +/- mph, or what conditions allow. The road speed will be between 15 and 17.0 mph, or slower if needed for safety concerns.
We’ll be making a bathroom break around mile 21. The rest stop around mile 27 will be the deli/bakery. The route back will be determined by the wind direction. Good Stuff after the Ride. Not sure what good stuff; it's always a surprise.

UPDATE as of 7/11: I checked out the extended path, so I can confidently post this as a 26 mile ride. I've also been contacted by a group member who stated that he does the path and boardwalk weekly and both (the path and boardwalk) are crowded on the weekends. The pace may come in at a "c" pace due to the wind I experienced as well as the anticipation for the crowded bike path and boardwalk. If you decide to do this ride, please be prepared for frequent stops and a slower pace. With that said, if you have something on your calendar for the early afternoon, you might want to think twice on doing this ride. If this is the case, please be assured that we'll post this again because it's a safe and fun ride. I truly want everyone to enjoy and not feel rushed doing this ride, the path is beautiful and absolutely worth every minute of riding.

This is the long-running Kreb Shop "A" Ride. This week, we’ll do the extended 41 mile route (East route plus 10 mile Mill Rd loop tacked on after The Maples rest stop).
We do scheduled wait-ups (and as necessary), in addition to one brief rest stop at roughly the 15 mile mark. Please bring adequate drinks and nutrition, as the rest stop occurs in a parking lot (no food/drinks/restrooms available).
Please park your car in the Bellport Municipal Parking Lot located at Bellport Lane & Bell Street, and then ride bike half a block over to the Kreb Bike Shop parking lot at 10 Bell Street, to sign-in for ride and hear the pre-ride briefing.
Leaving a little earlier and taking it nice and easy due to heat. Bring plenty of water!!
This is the same route I have been doing for the past few years. We get back in plenty of time to get changed and get on line for lunch. If you want to stay for the picnic make sure you sign up. You can still come out for the ride even if you choose not to stay. You should plan on getting into the park before 8 am before they start to charge at the entrance. Bagels and coffee will be served...
If the weather is a hot and humid as they are predicting I'll shorten this ride to 20 miles. If so, I will have the cue sheets available for anyone who wishes to do the full 30 miles. Decision will be made tomorrow morning.
Join in for this classic picnic ride: scenic, fun and no one dropped! Any changes will be posted by 7 AM. Note: early start 8:30 AM, to try to get ahead of the heat. Call my cell if you have any questions.
Pace will be between 18-21mph (excluding declines and tailwinds).
We will go through the Tanks on the north shore and will wait up after as needed. Our break will be brief (5-10 min) at the Blue Duck Bakery Cafe in Southold (mile 26). We'll then head to Sound Ave until Mattituck then head south for Peconic Bay Blvd.
You should plan on getting into the park before 8am before they start to charge an entrance fee. You may want to bring a change of clothes for the picnic.
Feel free to call/text with questions. Hope to see you there!
Let's meet at Indian Island County Park, and launch a ride that will take us along the Peconic, and then up to the farms of the North Fork. There will be multiple places where we can stop for a break, or even grab an ice cream to cool off! We'll return along the Peconic, to try to avoid the heat.
Since the day is predicted to be a scorcher, the pace will be on the low end of a B+, so no one overheats! Let's work together, enjoy the scenery and get everyone back to the Picnic, safely.
Don't forget to bring the Thunderbird! Who needs craft beer, when you can drink a classy product that can also be used to fuel your car! :)
NOTE – If it is too hot tomorrow we’ll shorten the ride. Let’s see how we feel midway and we’ll take it from there. Please bring 2 water bottles filled with electrolytes; I will make frequent stops so we all make it back healthy. The speed, and pace will be dictated by the group, and the temps!
It’s time for a scenic picnic ride. Really, this is my kind of ride, pie and refreshing liquid afterwards; what more could you want. So, join me for a nice ride before the picnic where we can burn some calories, not many, just enough for that piece of pie. We’ll peddle for an average pace somewhere between 14.7 and 15.0 mph. +/- depending on the wind the ride could wind up in the lower "B" range. Bring a snack; don’t spoil your picnic appetite.
There are showers there if you want to bring a change of clothes; first one back gets the showers first. My cell phone number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions, or need directions to the start. The ride will be cancelled only if the picnic is.
Ride 16-24 miles at an 10.5-11.5 pace. Newbies always welcome and nobody gets left behind. Any cancellation will be by 7:30. bE BACK IN TIME FOR THE BEST PICNIC YOU WILL ATTEND THIS YEAR. YOU CAN STILL RIDE EVEN IF YOU DON'T WANT TO STAY FOR THE PICNIC. AS ALWAYS ROUT WILL BE DEPENDANT BY THE DIRECTION AND SPEED OF THE WIND, TIDE, POSITION OF MOON AND RIDE LEADERS DISPOSITION.
We will do a 15 mile version of this ride rather than original 22 due to expected heat. We will still have a snack and bathroom stop.
Bring PLENTY of water! There will be frequent stops to hydrate!
Let everyone else get sweaty and intense while we while away the miles enjoying the scenery. There will be a break about half-way with snacks to purchase and a bathroom. Be sure to bring your helmet, water bottles, extra tubes (to insure we don't need them!) and a smile.

This ride was basically created by Jack Steffens, a great ride leader and hill (and dog) trainer who passed too soon. This ride has a B/B+ rating due to the effort but will probably end up at B/B- pace. We "only" climb ~1880 feet with this ride ;-).
I'm starting this ride at the Lakes club house and if you bring a bathing suit (or use your riding gear as I do) and towel, you can join me after the ride for a refreshing dip as my guest.
Check back to this posting early Monday morning as rain is forecast for later in the morning.

Let's give the Bartlets a try again. They offer a bit of a challenge for poor hill climbers like me, but if we push on through this ride a few times we should get stronger. Although, I must say, it hasn't worked for me yet, but I haven't given up trying. So, come on out and suffer with me. The pace will be a B- until we hit the hills then it will be at whatever pace you can do and there will be a wait-up for me at the end of the Bartlets. We will take a short break at the golf course. My apoligizes for anyone that checked this posting earlier. Change of plans, we are starting at Veterans Memorial Park in Calverton and going to Briermere Farms. Please check the morning of the ride for any changes especially the start time.

NOTE: The length of the ride can be adjusted, depending on the group.
As far as the route: We'll do scenic back roads on the way East, and ride along the river on the return.
You know sometimes as ride leader, you feel like James Garner in Support Your Local Sheriff: the town says they'll support him as sheriff and then back-out when the bad guys come! But like the sheriff, I'll have some tricks up my sleeve if riders don't keep the pace controlled! https://youtu.be/Icxh5FMcQRE
Scenic ride through Southampton and heading east to East Hampton then turning north to Sag Harbor where we'll have a rest stop. Bring a snack and drink or you can buy something at the deli. We'll eat along the waterfront and watch the yachts go by before heading back.
Note: We will be parking only 3.5 miles from Coopers Beach (one of the top ten beaches in the United States). The parking fee for cars at this beach is $50/day but it's FREE if you enter by foot or bike. For those interested in going to the beach after the ride, I suggest bringing a backpack with a bathing suit, change of clothes, towel, beach blanket/sheet, sunscreen and bike lock. They have a concession stand, full bathrooms (not just porta potties) and even outdoor showers where to rise off (not meant for bathing). They also have beach chairs and beach umbrellas that you can rent.
I'm excited to try this new route and hope you will join me! We'll start out of Grumman and weave our way towards Medford. We can stop for a quick break at Sunshine Mall (a little before the halfway) and will keep the pace between 19-22mph. There's a hill towards the end on Grumman Blvd.

Today's’ route to Great River will change up a bit towards the end of the ride, if the wind is in our favor; making this route pretty flat except for 2 overpasses. The average pace for this ride will be between 14.5 & 15.0 +/- mph, or what conditions allow. The road speed will be between 15 and 17.0 mph, or slower if needed for safety concerns.
Please DO NOT PARK in the Meat Farms parking lot. Use the west side of the bank if the east side is full. Thanks!
We’ll be making a rest stop around mile 19 at the deli/bakery. The route back will be determined by the wind direction. Good Stuff after the Ride. Not sure what good stuff; it's always a surprise.
