Too many fast people are coming to my and Bernie's rides. We do not mind splitting the ride to accommodate you, but your speeds are coming in at 18+mph. Other fast riders that decide to stay with us often push the pace without realizing it. Today our "slow" group went up the longest hill of the ride at 19mph. Quite annoying to say the least on a B ride with a split for faster riders
In order to maintain my sanity, avoid whistling, stay pleasant and avoid the "Attitudes", I'm asking for Ride Leaders that have been attending to post along with me. We did this for a few years and it worked very well helping people move up ride levels safely.
I would LOVE a B ride start with a B/B+ and a B+ going out from the same place at the same time.
I'm not speaking for Bernie, but I think he would feel the same. Him and I could take turns during the week to go B/B+ with the other groups when we feel chipper. Our slower new riders would appreciate it also.
Off to Bean and Bagel, with its indoor bathrooms and outdoor tent and tables. To join the ride, text Bill G. @ 631-356-3036, with your SBRA, emergency and cell numbers, your full name, and date of ride. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 07:15am.

This ride includes about 15 miles along Dune Road, with several active Osprey nests along the way, along with ocean and bay views. Along the way we will check out a food truck, with food, drinks and ice cream available, for a possible stop on our way back. Porta-potties are available along the route, and a rest room is available in the King Kullen parking lot. On our return from the Inlet, we can stop at the food truck. We also have an option of stopping at a pocket park in Westhampton Beach, seconds from the Beach Bakery with its rest rooms and goodies. Shinnecock inlet has great views, and benches. We'll try to prove it on this ride, where we'll head east on Dune Road and stretch our legs to Ponquogue Beach. After a short stop at the beach, it's time to turn around and head back on Dune Road. So you'll get to double up those Dune Road miles and increase your speed endurance.
To keep from really killing people, we'll stay together on the return leg and ride like a team. If the group wants more miles, there will be options for that, too!
So, dust off the bike, get out the big bottles, dial-up the video and let's ride! See you at South Street School!
I'm going to do this ride one more time since you like it. Next weekend we will do Manorville or Eastport. The route will take us to Farmingville, Middle Island, and Ridge. Around mile 20 there will be a rest stop at Taco Bell or Dunkin Donuts. From there we will head back through Middle Island, Yaphank and finally back to the start. Pulling is always appreciated, never required. There will be a break-a-way or two for those that want to go. If it gets too hot we can cut the ride down by about 2 miles.

Enjoy this scenic ride west from Captree Boat Basin, past Cedar, Gilgo and Tobay beaches to Jones Beach, where we will ride several miles on the boardwalk, then continue on past a few abandoned beaches, uturn, and return back to Captree. The ride should come in at 37 miles, possibly a few miles less. Pace will depend on the winds, the group, and others using the bike path and boardwalk. There are bathrooms every 5 miles or so. Bring plenty of water and snacks, sunscreen and a sense of humor. We will have a snack/lunch break on the boardwalk, I"m not sure what will be available, so try to be as self-contained as possible. Meet at the north west end of the parking lot at Captree, and we'll look for the start of the bike path together. If you are over 62, parking is free. If you are under 62, parking is $8. Please check the ride calendar before you leave your home: high winds, high heat and humidity or rain will cancel this ride. I will post any changes by 7 AM. One more thing: text me your SBRA ID#, emergency phone # and your cell phone #, ride is limited to 12 people.
This ride will be a B- pace until we hit the hills, then it will be whatever pace you can do. No worries--there will be a wait-up after the hills. Our break will be at the golf course. You can purchase coffee and rolls, etc or bring your own snack. Cancellation or changes will be posted by 7:30am. Please text me if you plan to come on the ride and be sure to identify yourself, as I may not have you in my contacts. SIGN IN AT RIDE START.
Park in the overflow lot for a nice easy ride around...not sure where! Maybe the Artist Colony, maybe to Corey Beach. Helpful if you let me know you are coming but not mandatory.

There is a total of 825' of climbing (with the equivalent downhill too!), most of the ride is rolling, neither of the main hills are steep, more of a long slow climb.
Join me for this C+ ride, which will average 12.2 - 13.0. This will be a paceline ride, where the group rides together and stays together! There will be no getting to the front of the paceline and then pushing-up the pace; that's a Fred move - save that for some other ride! So, if you can ride in a straight line and know how to maintain the pace, come on down!
Today's’ route to Great River will change up a bit towards the end of the ride, if the wind is in our favor; making this route pretty flat except for 2 overpasses. For a change, let’s go to Yaphank today… There is a nice break-a-way before the deli for those who want to go. Around mile 20 there will be a rest stop at the deli and then we’ll head back. Depending on conditions we might add a mile or two; no more than that.

Weather doesn't look promising, so check back for cancelations but just in case the weatherman is wrong! This will be a controled steady pace of between 20-23 on the flats with dead wind. This ride is a Base miles or active recovery you choose; but the effort should be on the light side. Please respect those that rode hard on Wednesday and keep with the plan. Short stop at the Exxon/ 7-11.

I am going to follow the new Ocean Parkway bike path, as it was written up in Newsday on July 30, 2021. We will depart from Captree Boat Basin and make stops at Cedar Beach Marina and Tobay Beach, where bathrooms are available. Our "half-way" point will be at Jones Beach State Park, where we will take our break. The Newsday article shows the round-trip ride to be about 27.5, so I am figuring 28 will be our distance. Since it may be a bit humid, you should have plenty of hydration with you. Due to the fact that this is a "mulituse" path, with pedestrians, runners, and skaters (to mention a few) using it, I have posted this as a C+ ride. As usual, the pace may also depend on the winds, who is in the group, etc.
Park next to the greenway entrance in the west lot. Parking fee is $8; those over 62 are free (yea).
At the end of the ride, we may stop in at Tiki Joe's Beach Club, at the Captree Boat Basin, for a quick bite to eat.
