This will be a 41 mile ride leaving Veteran’s Memorial Park, to William Floyd, around to the “Jet’s on Sticks,” through Grumman, to Area 51, and home (see below for further details.)We will maintain a steady 20 to 23 mph on the flats; faster on the declines and slower on the inclines.Maintaining the same power to the pedals, no matter the terrain or wind, will make for a steady ride; and that’s my goal.I hope to see you there.
Any changes will be posted by 8am on the day of the ride—precipitation lurks, so be sure to check.
WE WILL START WITH CHRIS'S GROUP AND STAY AS LONG AS WE CAN. I WILL BE RIDING AT THE REAR AND NO ONE WILL BE DROPPED. BE MINDFUL OF THE SPRING SHOWERS AND CHECK FOR UPDATES BEFORE HEADING OUT.
Park in the King Kullen parking lot, close to Main Rd. in Cutchogue.
We'll head east from Cutchogue, out to Orient Point, on this scenic cycle. There will be a short deli stop in Greenport at mile 18, a longer lunch break in Orient Beach State Park at mile 30, and a short break at Horton's Point Light House on the way back to the cars. Bring 2 water bottles and snacks as needed. Depending on the wind, group, etc. I plan to average in the 13.6 range. Definitely check the ride calendar by 7:30 am, morning of the ride, for any changes or cancellations. If it is a wild and windy day, we will do a totally different 50 miler from a different start location, so be sure to check in before leaving your home. Call me with any questions.
Tour historic community, once the Vanderbilt estate, part of which became known as the Idle Hour Artist's Colony. Ride thru the Mews, original farm, the canals, mansion (was Dowling College), the Connetquot River, views of the Bayard Cutting arboretum...and more! Meet at southwest end of the lot.
Changes: Let's plan for an average pace of 18-19mph; ride is a go as long as it's not raining at the start; may shorten the ride to 35 miles depending on the ever-changing forecast.
Starting from the northwestern lot of Patchogue YMCA, we'll weave our way through Patchogue toward Bellport, then head for Smith Point getting onto William Floyd Parkway (sprint section). We'll take a 10-15 min break then head back up. To be safe getting off William Floyd, we'll make a right after CVS onto Parkwood, left onto Maplewood and left onto Robinwood. There's another sprint section on Sills Road.
Added a few miles from the last ride and made it a little easier getting out of and back into Patchogue. Hoping to have a fast B+ ride depending on who shows.
This will be a steady pace line ride. Cruise at 20-22 witha final average around 20.5. One stop in Orient.
Because of the weather please check back for any changes. All changes by 630. This route can be made shorter if necessary and start later. I don't plan on going out in the rain.
Come on my C paced ride of 18-22 miles at 10.6-11.6mph. Newbies always welcome and nobody gets left behind. Any cancellation will be by 9am. Park on North side of RR at end of road. Bring water and a snack as route will be determined at ride start due to wind, tide, position of moon and leaders disposition.
Update – 7:15am – The ride will be delayed till 10:00am. There is a slight possibility of rain later in the afternoon. Therefore, the ride is shortened to 30 miles. If the weather improves we can always go back to the 36 miles. We can decide this during the ride>
Today's’ route will be similar to the Great River route with some added mileage, and a few changes. The changes will bring us through Islip Terrace or East Islip; it will all depend on the wind. The route is pretty flat except for an overpass, here and there.
We will go the usual route, heading south, using the Connetquot Park bike bath. We’ll work our way through the Islip’s then down to Heckscher Park, do a loop where one can stretch the legs a bit if desired. The average pace for this ride will be between 14.5 & 15.0 +/- mph, or what conditions allow. The road speed will be between 15 and 17.0 mph, or slower if needed for safety concerns.
We’ll be making a bathroom break around mile 21. The rest stop around mile 27 will be the deli/bakery. The route back will be determined by the wind direction.
Any cancellations due to unforeseeable circumstances, or weather related problems will be posted by 7:30am. If you have any questions about this ride, or the start location, please call or text my cell, 631-484-3490.

My ride will bea "B-" ride +/- a wee bit!!...Other ride leaders are welcome to join in, and lead a group at a different pace. Well, it’s Cinco de Mayo, and I have a great ride, and a fun day planned for you. Just ask those who attended last year. No need to ask for the day off this year, it’s on a Sunday! There is going to be good tasting, real Columbian food. The ride will start from the Mi Tierrita restaurant and go to Smith's Point. The first bathroom break will be around mile 10, next one at the beach, bring a snack for the beach if you want.
When the ride is officially over; its back to the restaurant for some excellent Columbian food. There will be several varieties of cold drinks; Personally, I think the Cadillac Sangria is to die for, also try the Margarita Sangria; because of that and the jelly donuts is the reason I ride. One tiny winy thing, I might mention, it’s NOT FREE so bring some US Dollars or Columbian Peso’s with you; the exchange rate will be announced. For your entertainment there will be a mariachi band, or a reggae band playing for your enjoyment. So, come on, let’s have another fun filled day with your friends. Non riders are also welcome.
The average pace for the ride will be between 14.5 to 15.0 mph, +/- depending on the roads, wind direction, and other conditions.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 10:30am if necessary. My cell phone# is 631.484.3490; call or text anytime if you have questions about this ride or need directions to the start.

Let's start riding again! This is a beginner ride, mostly flat, with a speed of 11mph as a constant. This is a short ride. It does NOT provide a bathroom or snack break. Bring your own snacks if you feel the need to get some energy. (There are bathrooms in Marshall's.). We’ll be riding in Stony Brook and St. James. Some important details:
1.BE READY TO RIDE AT START TIME!
2.MAKE SURE YOUR TIRES ARE PROPERLY INFLATED!
3.BRING YOUR HELMET AND WATER BOTTLE!
If you get there by 12:45, that should not be a problem. Remember that you must have a helmet and a water bottle. Cancellation for weather will be posted by 11:30am morning of ride. Questions before ride, please email me at (frchtchr@hotmail.com). Day of ride, my cell is 631-835-1454.
Info change only ... Bernie did his 50 miler on Saturday and all the SBRA rides brought the sunshine ! My lead of Bernie's 55 mile route will make a short stop, on the way out, at Westhampton (bring a quick snack); refreshment stop at Tully's and maybe a quicky again in Westhampton on the way back.
Also, there will be segments on this ride where faster riders can drop the hammer (or "push the pedal down") and go ahead BUT be expected to wait at the end of the run.
If Bernie's ride goes on Saturday (or Sunday) then this will "just" be a repeat ... if Bernie's ride gets cancelled then this ride will be become his ride lead. Check back on Sunday evening to see who you'll be drafting .
Early and late hills on this ride. Wait ups on 25a, Little Flower and 51 hills. The idea is ride each hill at a steady pace so we can keep the group together without stopping. Let's see what happens.
Off to Quogue, with some miles on Dune Road, several scenic stops, and snacks at the Westhampton Bakery. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar for changes, which would be posted by 08:15am day of ride.
Due to the rainy weekend and me working temporarily, I need to get a few miles in. Short meander around backroads. Brief porta potty stop so bring water and a snack if you desire one. Park in the lot south of Wendy's.
Off to Briermere's, with a quick stop to see the American Bison herd, if they are in a field viewable from the road. Briermere's has coffee and tea, and a wide variety of baked goods and pies. Bathrooms and picnic tables are available. If you are interested in sharing a pie, and at least 3 other riders are interested, we can buy a pie: so bring singles and change. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 07:15am. Note: Veteran's Park has porta-potties.
I thought we would change it up this week go to Middle Island today. The average pace for the ride will be between 14.0 and 15.0 mph +/- depending on the roads, wind direction and other conditions. The road speed will be between 14.5 and 16.5 mph. Around mile 17 we’re going to stop at the senior citizen discount bagel shop. There are a few places along the route where those who wish can stretch their legs a bit.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 7:30am, if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call or text anytime if you have questions about this ride or need directions to the start.
On Tuesdays we’ll be riding the hills north of Stony Brook, getting up to B- average over the coming months. If you are interested in getting better at hills and can do a C+ pace, now is the time to join us. To start this series, we’ll do a low C+ on the flats and everyone will bike at his own ability (or lack thereof) on the hills. Take the hills at your own pace and we’ll meet at the top. No pressure there.
We go from the ride start to the lighthouse in Old Field. We have our break there at the overlook, so bring your own snack. There is no bathroom stop on this ride.
Questions before ride, my email is [frchtchr@hotmail.com]. Morning of ride, my cell is 631-835-1454.
This ride will leave Veteran’s Memorial Park for a 41 mile loop around the jets and into Area 51 (see below for details). In consideration of those tapering down for the Tour of Battenkill, we will keep this at the low end of the A class.I am looking to maintain a steady 19 – 20mph, nothing more.I hope to see you there.
Bean &Bagel will be rest stop cell phone 631-484-1650 for questions please call or text after 7 am or before 7 pm no one left behind check 2 hours before if weather is questionable
Starting off prior to dead low tide; we will ride west to Democrat Point and do a little exploring. Parking should be free weekdays until 5/20 (that's how I read it). If you are 62 or older, it's a good idea to get a Golden Park Pass. This will be anywhere between hard pack sand and soft sand so bring your Fattie to the beach.
If the time doesn't work for you don't blame me; blame the tides (we could go 12hrs prior).
I'm taking Mike F's Taco Tuesday ride this week. We'll enjoy the quiet streets of Great River and East Islip, and will also do 2 loops in Heckscher State Park where we can stretch our legs a little.
This 22 mile B- ride will average 14.5 mph with cruising speeds of 15-18 mph.
Get comfotable with riding on hills with this moderately paced hill-ride. The ride will likely have stretches where we soft-peddle and/or wait-up, so that no one is dropped.
The roads are quite scenic as we tour through Stony Brook, Old Field, Setauket and Poqott. Mostly we'll be on country roads which have "a few" rolling hills. You'll be treated to some great water-views.
Crusing speed will be a B- pace, 15-17, with average speed in the C+ to C+/B- range 12.5-13.5 as the hills will slow us down.
Ride 13-17 miles at an 10.5-11.5 pace until dusk. Wear bright gear and have lights. Newbies always welcome and nobody gets left behind. Park on South side of RR in lot across the street. Daylights burning so wheels down at 5:30. Any cancellation will be by 4:30.
Check Tuesday evening as this ride may be delayed until Thursday.
Note the ride will start from the WEST parking lot on Rt. 112 ... The start begins in the middle of "Got 6 Minutes".
Hoping not to wimp out again due to Overton technical sections but planning on doing the Rock Garden + and SOME of other BDs including the Wild Turkey berm + the new section of #6.
Overton has a number of diamonds that are do-able by Intermediate riders ... Got 6 Minutes, BD #1, #2 and #5. There are waitups and the BD's always loop back to the Blue main.
The trail will not be that quiet as I expect the metal crushing or fertilizer grinding ;-( to be going on .
Check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Life Happens and Things Change.
Running late? PULL OVER and call my cell below ... we'll wait but make you feel lousy about it ...
Gordons route to W.Hampton Bakery. Due to possible enforcement we will obey the bike signs at the bridges and dismount and walk our bikes over the bridges. we will be breaking at the Bakery. Canceled recovering from surgery.

Today's Mi Tierrita ride will be going to Smith’s Point. The route is mostly flat with a small incline here and there. The route on the way back may change depending on the wind.

This is the companion ride to the long-running Kreb Shop "A" Ride. We make every effort to keep both ride groups together, but if there is a split, we let the A ride go ahead.
**If 19 ride average is an issue for you, please consider joining Fred McKenna’s B+ ride, also leaving the lot at 8am***
Please park your car in the Bellport Municipal Parking Lot located at Bellport Lane & Bell Street, and then ride bike half a block over to the Kreb Bike Shop parking lot at 10 Bell Street, to sign-in for ride and hear the pre-ride briefing.
We do scheduled wait-ups (and as necessary), in addition to one brief rest stop halfway through ride. Please bring adequate drinks and nutrition, as the rest stop occurs in a parking lot (no food/drinks/restrooms available).
Ride east from Sayville through Bayport, Patchogue, Bellport then north and east through Yaphank and Manorville with a food stop at McD's in Manorville about halfway through. Optional bathroom stop at Southaven Park both on the way out and the way back. Pace will be at the higher end of the C+/B- range. Cancellation for any reason will be posted by 6:30AM.
Training ride for the Metric Century but all are welcome. Park in lot closest to Montauk Highway. Our break will be at Briermere at around mile 20. Keeping the pace in the C range since we are adding miles each week. Contact me with any questions. Always check back for any changes.
FANY Ride Hill Training rated as a B for overall average speed but is more like a B+ in effort required.
We will ride through Upper Brookville, Matinecock, Locust Valley, Lattingtown, Dosoris Island, Glen Cove, Old Brookville. The rest stop at about 20 miles. Distance may vary depending on who shows up.
Sixty mile ride from Sunshine Mall to Quogue. Pace will be about the same as last week, since we are adding 10 more miles. The average should be a fast B to slow B/B+. As we get ready for the century, we will use a modified paceline and employ shorter pulls than in the past. There will be two stops -- one at Beach Bakery the other at McDonalds in Manorville.
As the title implies, it's time to start working on those long pulls down the highway, which some will find hell. But, it will get you ready for those long pulls into winds that we almost always have on the Century!
So, we'll start by heading west - heading up William Floyd, then southeast along Route 24, before we head up to Briermere Farms for a break. Then it's down to Hampton Bays and a return route back through Eastport. The distance will be about 66 miles, so have two big water bottles and snacks. Also, save some energy for the rolling terrain and the winds of the final leg of the ride.
This is a long ride, with several stops, as well as a lunch stop at Braun's sea food in Cutchogue, so plan your day accordingly. This ride will be changed if the wind is strong, the change could be a shortening of the ride, or a different ride altogether, so it is vital that you check the ride calendar for changes by 07:15am day of ride. From Riverhead we will head out along the scenic Peconic Bay, with a bathroom (porta-potty) stop at mile nine. There will be several very quick scenic stops with water views on our way to a deli in Cutchogue (mile 16) where we will take a short stop for coffee, etc. and a real bathroom. We continue Northward with views of farms and vineyards on our way to a view of the L.I. Sound. We than head South to Nassau Point and its views and rolling hills. Note: if you do not wish to do the hills, you can hang out at the beach and we will pick you up about 15 minutes later on our return to the beach. We than ride on for some views off Indian Neck road before heading back to Cutchogue to Braun's Sea Food. Braun's is a self service take out restaurant with plenty of outdoor picnic tables, their chowders, wraps, etc. are excellent. If you don't want lunch, in the same parking lot is Scoops and Grinds, where the ice cream is wonderful, and so are their coffees. Both stores have bathrooms. We than return to Riverhead. For info: call/ text Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Note: Park in the public lot along the riverfront, go to the end of the lot (you will see a building under construction). Closest street is McDermott. Ride speed will be a low end C+/B-.
It's off to Manorville. The average pace for the ride will be between 14.6 to 15.0 mph +/- depending on the roads, wind direction, rider ability or other conditions. Naturally, the road speed will be higher (15 -16.5 mph.) to produce the average. A rest/ food stop at McDonald’s or the bagel shop is on the schedule around mile 12. There are a few places along the route where leg stretches can be done for those who wish to do so. There is no obligation for anyone to do this; you can hang back with me.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 7:30am, if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call or text me anytime if you have questions about the ride

Parking Lot on Greeley. Similar route to last ride with the addition of Idle Hour Loop. One short breather about 15 miles. Not a scenic tour of Sayville - a loop without many turns to get 25 miles in before dark. Lights recommended (just in case).

We'll have a break at Smith's Point at mile 16, with an opportunity to pick up snacks at the 7-11 or deli along the way. Bathroom stops if needed at Wertheim Preserve. Intrepid Tag Along leader, Alley Gonzalez is currently on hiatus)
This is the companion ride to the long-running Kreb Shop "A" Ride. We make every effort to keep both ride groups together, but if there is a split, we let the A ride go ahead.
Let's give the Bartlets a try. They offer a bit of a challenge for poor hill climbers like myself, but if we push on through this ride a few times we should get stronger. Although, I must say, it hasn't worked for me yet, but I haven't given up trying. So come on out and suffer with me. The suffering will not be long however, since most of this ride is actually flat. The pace will be a B- until we hit the hills then it will be at whatever pace you can do and there will be be wait-ups for me at the end of the hills. We will take a short break at the golf course. Coffee and rolls are available or bring your own snack. Cancelations or changes will be posted by 8 am.
Bean &Bagel will be rest stop cell phone 631-484-1650 for questions please call or text after 7 am or before 7 pm no one left behind please check 2 hours before if weather is questionable.
Let's hit the North Fork this week with a ride starting from Riverhead to Greenport with a little earlier start time. We will meet behind Twin Forks Bicycle store. There will be one long stop in Greenport and a couple of shorter stops, so bring a few snacks and water.
Usually, I encourage any rider who wants to try one of my rides to give it a go; however, this is a GROUP training ride for the century. If you plan to ride the century with this group, I would hope you would make every effort to jump on. If you have been riding with us and can't make it this week, no problem.
It is going to be between 65-70 miles, so you should come prepared to do that distance and be able to maintain a 16.5-17.5 pace, no faster and hopefully no slower unless the weather is an issue. I don't want to be put into a position where I need to be a speed cop, so, if this pace is not to your liking, please jump on someone else's ride.
Also, please make every effort to have the route on your Garmin, mobile phone, etc. so that we all know the course.
We will use a modified paceline. Everyone this week will have an opportunity to pull so that we get used to taking turns during the century.
Rotating paceline 1min. max pulls at a steady pace, to keep us moving and the group together. We ride to Briermere for a short break, before returning. Anticipate 19-20 MPH Adv. speed. This ride is more about distance than speed. Please check the route posted below.
A pretty ride through the Hamptons and north shore, the rest stop will be in Cutchogue. We'll take brief water breaks along the way. Please be prepared to leave on time.
Leaving the bank we will be heading to Bellport. Our food stop will be at the Bellport Deli. Depending on the weather & route this ride may be a few miles more or less than posted.
This is a B- ride with an average speed of 14.5 to 15 mph, road speeds may reach 17-19mph. Check the ride calender for any changes posted by 7:00am day of ride. Any questions call Mike at 516 448-8545
Park in the lot nearest Montauk Highway. We all liked last week's route so we wil be doing it again, with a few modifications to add a few miles. Our stop will be at Briermere around midride. Also an opportunity for a quick stop at McD's in Manorville cloer to the end. Check back for any changes. I can't ride Sunday so let's hope Saturday's weather cooperates!
Today's’ route will be similar to the Great River route with some added mileage, and a few changes. The changes will bring us through Islip Terrace or East Islip; it will all depend on the wind. The route is pretty flat except for an overpass, here and there.
We will go the usual route, heading south, using the Connetquot Park bike path.

Will ride around the SCCC course twice to hit 50 miles. It's 27 miles to the first rest stop in Hampton Bays, bring enough water & snacks. Changes posted by 7 a.m.
Leaving Eastport we will head out to Westhampton, take Dune Road to Cupsogue County Park, than head out to the Quogue Preserve. We will than go to the Westhampton Bakery for our snack. There will be a bathroom break in Westhampton at mile nine, and again at Cupsogue and the Quogue Preserve. Bring a snack to enjoy at Cupsogue, while we are viewing the Atlantic Ocean. cOME ON THIS 18-22 MILE RIDA AT A 10.6-11.6 PACE. Newbies always welcome and well taken care of. Bring water and a snack if we do not stop as direction depends on the wind direction, tide, position of moon and leaders disposition. Nobody gets left behind. Any cancellation will be ny 9am.
We'll bike from Bayport to Bellport. There will be a Bellport deli stop 14 miles in. If weather is pleasant we'll have our snack at the dock; otherwise we'll stay in the deli for warmth.

What is better than a bakery stop followed by a trip up 51 and 111? Nothing you say! So let's do it. Steady pace to the bakery followed by a brief stop. Then off tp 51 and 111.
East Islip BoA to the famous Copenhagen bakery in Northport where we will have our food/rest stop. This ride is posted as a B/B+ due to effort required for the hills, however, average speed come in more like a "B" level ride. Consider this "hill trainiing" for intermediate level riders. We will cover the Vanderbilt rollers and hills in Northport, Fort Solonga/Kings Park and Smithtown.
No one gets dropped. Wait-up's at the top of each hill. Water breaks as needed.
Please call my cell number below if you have any questions.
Here's a chance to sharpen your cornering and paceline skills, and get stronger! Meet at the Memorial Park, and we'll do some paceline work on the one mile loop inside the old Grumman grounds. (A/K/A the Thunderdrome!).
Every lap will have the fun of some corners and a small rise. Everyone takes a turn pulling into the wind... If you get tired, slow down and we'll catch you on the next lap. Distance can be increased, depending on the group.
Leave the carbon fiber wheels and the small chain ring behind, you won't need them!
We will be leaving East Islip BOA and head to the Great River area. Then we will make our way to the Babylon Dock area. Then off to Islip Beach before returning to the bank. Our break will be in Babylon or East Islip, the group will decide. Please Note: The Baker will have a surprise dessert for us after the ride.

Winds may change this ride. The strong winds predicted for tomorrow, if the forecast is right, will change this ride from the route going to Briermere which is very exposed to the wind, to riding in and around Calverton, with a break at Bean and Bagel. Strong winds may slow down our speed, and possibly limit our ride distance. We will still be leaving from the Maple's parking lot. Note: there is a high pollen alert for Tuesday. Be sure to check the ride calendar by 07:45am for any further changes. Off to Briermere's, with a brief stop to view the American Bison herd (if they are in one of the fields we can see from the road). Brieremere's has restrooms and picnic tables. If you want to share a pie, bring singles and change. Coffee and tea are available, along with a variety of wonderful baked goods. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 07:45am.
Get your hill practice served many different ways by the hills of the Three Villages. Our break is at the Oldfield lighthouse; bring your own snack. There is no bathroom stop on this ride. On the non-hills, we expect to cruise at 13-15mph. On the hills, each does his/her own best effort and we meet at the top — no pressure there. There are spots where faster riders can push ahead.
Prior to ride day, my email is (frchtchr@hotmail.com). Morning of ride, my cell is 631-835-1454. Cancellation for weather no later than 8am morning of ride.

We can all go for coffee and a bagel at the end of the ride and chat if you want.

But first – let’s work up an appetite with a ride. We will be going to the Yaphank area using Woodside and Long Island Ave. or we can change the route as needed. The average will be about 14-15mph; naturally the road speed will be between 15 and 17 depending on the wind...

The average pace will be around 12.3 - 12.9, or so, unless those in the group wish to go faster.
Join in for this training ride for the Montauk Metric Century. I've reworked the route, took out any glitches (hopefully) and added in a tour of downtown Orient. First brief stop will be at mile 21 in Greenport for bathroom and snack, then we'll take a stop at Orient Beach State Park at mile 32 to enjoy the scenery. Lunch stop will be at mile 41 at the deli in Orient. After that, its rollers home along Soundview. I'm thinking we'll average in the low C+/B- range in order to do the miles, deal with the wind, and arrive home with a bit of energy to spare. Bring snacks and water, plan to be out through the afternoon. Check the posting before you leave your home, any changes/cancellation will be posted by 6 AM. Call on my cell if you have any questions.

This is the companion ride to the long-running Kreb Shop "A" Ride. We make every effort to keep both ride groups together, but if there is a split, we let the A ride go ahead. Route is East to The Maples.
We will be looking for hills on the Gold Coast. The roads are in great shape and a few miles may be added at the end of ride. The rest stop at about 20 miles.
ROUTE: We will take off from Riverhead waterfront behind Twin Fork Bicycles and proceed to a course that will take us through Southampton and up to Sag Harbor. We will be crossing over from south to north by way of Shelter Island, including Ram Island. Once in Greenport, lunch will be at the deli or pizzeria near the ferry (like last week). After lunch, we head west back to Riverhead using a similar route as last week.
STOPS: There will be multiple stops along the route and one long break in Greenport at mile 50.
BATHROOMS: Finding bathrooms is always a chore, especially with large groups. I did the best I could in this regard.
You will NEED:
Money for south and north ferries and lunch.
Water
Snacks
Sun Screen
ENERGY
SPEED: I am posting the ride as a slow B/B+ but if the wind is an issue the average may be in the fast B area. Cruising speed, depending on wind speed and direction will be around 16-17 mph. Naturally, tailwind and downhills will increase the top number.
MODIFIED PACELINE: It doesn’t make a difference how long you pull. A short pull also helps the group. Let’s make the exchange at 5 miles or LESS. Wheel behind a wheel, and don't cover a wheel.
EVERYONE IS EXPECTED TO MONITOR THEIR OWN SPEED AND THE LOCATION OF THOSE BEHIND THEM TO AVOID HAVING LARGE SPACES BETWEEN RIDERS.
If you can, please download the route onto your Garmin, iPhone, etc.
FINALLY: Based on feedback I've been getting, there may be a lot of riders this week, so the ride may be split. If there needs to be two groups, Tim Mayr will lead the other group.
Park in the lot closest to Montauk Highway. This is a metric century training ride but anyone is welcome. We will be doing two loops-one north to Manorville with a stop at McD's then one south with a stop at the Beach Bakery. Check back for any changes which would be posted by 6am.
Sayville to Bellport (this time we go up North and without the brakes rubbing). This will be a B/B+ paceline coming in at the low end of the B/B+ classification
Quick stop at Deli or coffee shop in Bellport before we make our way home
No, not the decade, but the mileage and the time! We'll be doing eighty miles at eight-thirty. So, Thunderbirds, set the alarm earlier and pack the large water bottles, snacks, gels and two tubes; it's going to be a long ride.
Chances are that I'll be dancing / riding with myself; but if you're looking to do an even B+ pace and some distance - the ride is on!
No surges on this ride, we need a smooth pace to keep everyone together.
The route will include William Floyd P'way, Briermere Farms, part of the North Fork, a run to Hampton Bays and Westhampton, before we head west to the finish.
I changed this ride up a little bit to add afew more miles. Our main deli stop will be in Babylon village. Restrooms are open at the docks and in the deli. Any cancellations or changes will be made by 6A.M. Saturday.
We will be leaving East Islip BOA and head to the Great River area. Then we will make our way to the Babylon Dock area. Then off to Islip Beach before returning to the bank. Our break will be in Babylon or East Islip, the group will decide.
This is a B- ride with an average speed around 15 mph, road speeds may reach 16-19mph. Check the ride calender for any changes posted by 7:00am day of ride.
Minor Change: Just in case your parking is away from Atlantic Blvd ! We will wait at the bike statue located near the park bathrooms and the beginning of the Jones Beach Bikeway until 9:15. Also, dress appropriately as it will be in the upper 50's to mid 60's with breeze from the water at 8 mph.
CHECK BACK to this posting after 6 AM Saturday for any changes!
We'll beat the traffic but have to get there early to get parking. Parking at Cedar Creek Park is for Nassau residents only but parking is available around the park. Here's the route AND a good parking area: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/30043559. Zoom into the map to see where I will be parking.
We will probably do up to 15 miles as we can ride along the bike path until we find a good location (food & restrooms ;-). The air show starts at 10 so we should have plenty of time to scout out a good location. Bring SUNBLOCK!, food and a blanket if you can manage it as the stone gets a bit hard for a six hour air show. Here's a link to Newsday's show info: http://longisland.news12.com/story/40503363/guide-2019-bethpage-air-show-at-jones-beach .
This ride is open to ALL levels of SBRA riders. I may be leaving the beach at about 2 depending on weather and show factors.
Join me for this C+/B- ridefrom Bellport to ???. Our destination will be determined by the winds, so it may be Smith Point, or it may be Bohemia (Cookie's Deli). Wherever we go, we will take a break and there will be a bathroom available.
As mentioned above, this is a C+/B- ride, which will average 13.0 - 13.6.
RIDE 17-22 MILES AT A 10.6-11.5 PACE AROUND cALVERTON. Newbies alwasy welcome and well taken care of. Any cancellation by 8:30am. Nobody left behind. As always route depend on wind, position of moon, tide and ride leaders disposition.
Join me for a casual ride to see a portion of the Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach. Please note, if you are planning to see the entire show, please join Norms ride at 9am. Air Show is scheduled from 10am-3pm.
I'm expecting to arrive at the Air Show around 1:15pm. Ride starts at 11:30am from North Massapequa. We'll ride along the Massapequa Preserve using the bike path and then take some backroads to get to Cedar Creek Park. From there we'll take the bike path to Jones Beach and then do the additional loop to Tobay Beach. I'm planning to leave Jones Beach immediately after the Thunderbirds complete their routine (usually between 2:30-2:45) to avoid large crowds on the bike path after the show.
You can purchase food and drinks at the Air Show. However, if you would like to bring your own, you may want to consider taking a backpack with you. A small towel might be a good idea too (to sit on).
If anyone has any questions, please call. My number is posted below.
Fast paced A ride. Cruise 22-24 mph. This is flat for 45 miles so the pace will be quick. The roads are straight, fast and wide. Amanda might be posting a tag a long so if this seems too fast please check her ride. If the group is as large as last week we will ask one of the ride leaders to help out and recieve ride leader credit. Then you can ride your speed.
Please down load the route or become familiar with it. Last week was a lot of fun so hopefully we can do it again!
Final average pace will be more than the Charlie Birds but less than the Early Birds!
This is a tag-a-long to Jim's ride. Average pace will be between 18-19 mph. Roads are straight, fast and wide. We'll start with Jim's ride, so anyone that wants to try his and needs to drop back is welcome to join my group. If the groups are too large, we'll ask one of the other ride leaders to help out.
Looking forward to a ride as good as this past Sunday!! Brian... don't forget your $$$!
Leaving the bank we will be heading to Wertheim.
Any questions call Mike at 516 448-8545
Today's’ route will be similar to the Great River route with some added mileage, and a few changes. The changes will bring us through Islip Terrace or East Islip; it will all depend on the wind. The route is pretty flat except for an overpass, here and there.
We will go the usual route, heading south, using the Connetquot Park bike path.
Good Stuff after the Ride. Not sure what good stuff; it's always a surprise.
Any cancellations due to unforeseeable circumstances, or weather related problems will be posted by 7:30am. If you have any questions about this ride, or the start location, please call or text my cell, 631-484-3490.
Ride start changed to Riverhead Senior Center due to an event in downtown Riverhead. This is a long ride, with several stops, as well as a lunch stop at Braun's sea food in Cutchogue, so plan your day accordingly. This ride will be changed if the wind is strong, the change could be a shortening of the ride, or a different ride altogether, so so it is vital that you check the ride calendar the day of the ride by 07:15 am. From Riverhead, we will head out along the scenic Peconic Bay, with viewing and bathroom stops. At mile 16 we will stop at a deli in Cutchogue for coffee/tea and a real bathroom. We will than head North, viewing farms and vineyards on our way to a viewing stop of the L.I. Sound. We than head South to Nassau Point and its views and rolling hills. Note: if you want to skip the hills, you can hang out at the beach and we will pick you up about 15 minutes later. We than ride on for some views along Indian Neck Road before heading back to Cutchogue to Braun's Sea Food. This is a self-service take out setup with plenty of shaded, outdoor seating. Their chowders and wraps are excellent. Adjacent to Braun's is Scoops and Grinds, the icecream is worth the ride. Both stores have real bathrooms. We than return to Riverhead. Note: Parking is in the public lot along the riverfront, go to the end of the lot (you will see a building under construction). The closest street is McDermot. For info: contact Bill G. at 631-356-3036.
This ride is on, not cancelled. I was changing the starting point to the Riverhead Senior Center and hit the cancel button instead of the change button. See the cancelled ride for all other information.

UPDATE: This ride is a go. Barbara Abraham will be taking off at 10am, pretty much the same route. So if you have any concerns about your pace, you'll have options. After the initial route, I'll likely take a loop down to Stony Brook - Sand Street beach and Duck Pond - for some extra miles and more pretty views. Or you can opt out when we return to ride start. Lunch over at Green Cactus afterwards for those interested.
Short ride to work off your holiday BBQ's! Join us as we travel scenic backroads thru the Stonybrook-Setauket area. There are places to stretch your legs ahead and wait ups after climbs. But please note this is not a "race ride"...

By combining and changing some routes, i have a new and longer route to the beautiful scenic Shoreham Village beach overlook. This ride will be partly flat and partly rolling. No giant hills. Come out and celebrate Memorial Day and the threat of more sunshine !! (can it be true!) with cycling friends. We will have a stop at Bagel Lady for bathroom break and you can pick up food to bring to Shoreham Beach where we will have a short break about halfway through ride.

This is the companion ride to the long-running Kreb Shop "A" Ride. We make every effort to keep both ride groups together, but if there is a split, we let the A ride go ahead. We do scheduled wait-ups (and as necessary), in addition to one brief rest stop halfway through ride. Please bring adequate drinks and nutrition, as the rest stop occurs in a parking lot (no food/drinks/restrooms available). This week's route is East to The Maples.
Please park your car in the Bellport Municipal Parking Lot located at Bellport Lane & Bell Street, and then ride bike half a block over to the Kreb Bike Shop parking lot at 10 Bell Street, to sign-in for ride and hear the pre-ride briefing.
We will be looking for hills on the Gold Coast. The roads are in great shape and a few miles may be added at the end of ride. The rest stop at about 20 miles.
The weather forecast looks good, so let's do a leisurely ride through Belmont Lake State park to the docks. Please bring snacks and drinks, we can stop at either 7-11 or the deli for anything you may need, but this won't be a long rest stop. The restrooms in the park and at the docks are open. I recommend that you bring some insect repellent for on the trail.
