Note the time change ... Sorry about the second change in time ...
If you've always wanted to do the renown Kreb Ride but were afraid of being dropped then come along ... we'll be doing the Kreb NORTH route instead of tagging-along on Allie's Tag-along of the Kreb ride to the Maples. We need the hills! Maybe next week we'll tag-along on the north route. No one gets dropped but we will wait at the top of the hills of the Kreb north ride. There's no break but there will be waitups if necessary.
------------------------------------------------ Original Posting --------------------------------------------------------------
The mostly likely change right now is that the ride start may be moved to whatever is posted for the Kreb ride if the Kreb ride is doing the North route.
Be sure to check back after 10 pm on Thursday...
Subscribe to this ride posting and get an update within an hour of my changes or check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Nothing is Permanent ... Life Happens and Things Change!!

This is a B- ride with an average speed of 14.5 to 15 mph, road speeds may reach 16-18mph. Check the ride calender for any changes posted by 7:00am day of the ride.
The ride will start at Sunshine Mall at 8:30. Please note the time change. We will head east and stop at the public restrooms in Westhampton to quickly take care of business. We then head down to Dune Road and go to the Ponquogue Bridge, cross it, and head west. Eventually, we will arrive at the Beach Bakery for a rest stop. Afterward, we will continue west to the ride start. There may be one or two quick drink/snack and go stops depending on the weather.
The pace will be in the B/B+ range since it is a rather flat route, and we will do a modified pace line.
We will ride as a group and return the same way.
This is “officially” part of the century training series and hopefully for the next several rides those who are thinking of going with this group will make an effort to ride; however, the ride, of course, is open to everyone.
This ride is part of a continuing series of rides to give riders the practice to do the 100k metric century ride. We will ride along the North Shore of Peconic Bay, with water views, farmland and a vineyard. Our ride will also take us to water views at Nassau Point. Our major rest stop will be at a deli in Cutchogue, and there are some porta-potties at parks and marinas along the way. Bring snacks and water to supplement our Cutchogue stop. Don't forget sunscreen. This ride is open to riders not doing the metric century. Be sure of your ability to ride fifty miles if you wish to do this ride. We will average between 13-14mph on the ride. Changes in weather, especially wind, can change the ride destination, starting point, speed, or even cancel the ride, so be sure to check the ride calendar the day of the ride. Any change would be posted by 07:00am. For info: call/text Bill Gravitz at 631-356-3036.
Get ready for the Thundermetric (c) our first metric century; a/k/a the T-Birds Training Ride #7. We even threw in a few extra miles, over the metric distance (62.1 miles), for extra fun. We'll ride eastward along part of the Century route through Westhampton Beach, before heading north along some of the original BBB route, on our way to Briermere Farms.
1. Let's park in front of the South St. School building, and in the west lot by the flag pole, so we don't have any issues with the baseball teams.
2. I appreciate everyone's enthusiasm to speed the ride up, but let's keep the pace even, so we keep the group together! Jacking the pace up and riding off the front disturbs the ride and breaks the group up...not cool as we increase the distance.
3. Pack the large water bottles, snacks and gels. The distance is where things start to get more serious.
Let's ride 55 miles on 5/5! Be sure to bring enough water to hydrate and cash for our stop at the beach bakery. Bring a spare tube and cartridges and air up your tires for a nice smooth ride.
No one will be dropped and the pace will be according to the ride classification and wind direction.
Please check back for any changes/cancellations which will be posted here by 7:00 AM the day of the ride.
Please join Brenda and me for a nice morning ride to Jamesport and around Riverhead, with a snack/bathroom break at Briermere. This is a structured C+ ride which will average 12.0 - 12.7, depending on wind, riders, etc.
There will be cue sheets and no one will be dropped.
NOTE: Park at the East end of the Waterfront parking area.
Come join us for this festive ride. I'm not sure which way we're going yet, but we'll try to avoid the wind or go into it first. After the ride everyone can come in and enjoy some fantastic food and drinks. Bring a change of clothes if that will make more comfortable.
This will be a "B-" ride!!...Other ride leaders are welcome to join in, and lead a group at a different pace. Well, it’s Cinco de Mayo, and I have a great ride, and a fun day planned for you. Just ask those who attended last year. Ask your boss for the day off, or treat him to lunch; I just know he/she would love to come and taste some real Columbian food. The ride will start from the Mi Territa restaurant and go to Smith's Point. The first bathroom break will be around mile 10, next one at the beach, bring a snack for the beach if you want.
When the ride is officially over its back to the restaurant for some excellent Columbian food. There will be several varieties of cold drinks; Personally, I think the Cadillac Sangria is to die for, also try the margarita sangria; between that and the jelly donuts is the reason I ride. One tiny winy thing I might mention, it’s NOT FREE so bring some US Dollars or Columbian Peso’s with you; the exchange rate will be announced. For your entertainment around 6:00PM there will be a mariachi band, or a reggae band playing for your enjoyment. So, come on, let’s have another fun filled day with your friends. Non riders are also welcome, just leave me some Sangria.
The average pace for the ride will be between 14.5 to 15.0 mph, +/- depending on the roads, wind direction, and other conditions.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 11:00am if necessary. My cell phone# is 631.484.3490; call or text anytime if you have questions about this ride or need directions to the start.

Weather-related cancellation will be posted by 7am day of ride. Feel free to text me with any questions.
This is a shorter training ride out to the Beach Bakery. Southaven park is on Victory so a little different start than usual. The weather looks good for Sunday but please check an hour before the ride start to see if I made any changes.
Update – 5/5/18 - 9:45PM - Rain is predicted around noon so I have cut down the ride to around 22 miles. Hopefully this will keep us from getting wet! If there are any other changes they will be made ay the ride start. If the rain holds off we will do the 30 miles as planed.
Today’s route to Great River will change up a bit towards the end of the ride, if the wind is in our favor; making this route pretty flat except for 2 overpasses. We will go the usual route heading south using the Connetquot Park bike bath. We’ll work our way down to Heckscher Park, do a loop where one can stretch the legs a bit if desired.
The average pace for this ride will be between 14.5 & 15.0 mph, or what conditions allow. The road speed will be between 15 and 16.5 mph, or slower if needed for safety concerns.
We’ll be making a rest stop around mile 19 at the deli/bakery. The route back will be determined by the wind direction. Good Stuff after the Ride. Not sure what good stuff; it's always a surprise.
Any cancellations due to unforeseeable circumstances, or weather related problems will be posted by 7:45am. If you have any questions about this ride, or the start location, please call or text my cell, 631-484-3490.
Changing the ride to a shorter version. We'll try for about 27 max, less if needed to avoid the rain. The weather forecast is not good so check for changes. We may shorten or cancel . If all goes as planned we'll head out to Wadding River. Speed will be 13-15mph. There will be plenty of long runs for the faster riders to go.
*The ride will be on, leaving a half hour earlier. Hard to tell if we'll get more than a sprinkle. BE PREPARED NOT TO HAVE THE SNACK BREAK, as ride will be shortened if necessary.
We’ll head out of Marshall’s lot going on a southerly route for about 6 miles before heading north to St. James. Snack stop at a coffee shop about mile 12. Should be a pretty combination of roads for (hopefully) a sunny day in the 70’s with the wind at our back the whole ride. :). Remember your water bottle, helmet. Make sure your brakes are working! Be sure to pump up your tires to proper pressure before leaving the house (pressure is stamped on the side of the tire).
Please arrive at Marshall’s 20 minutes before the ride so that you are ready to leave at the posted time. Questions before ride, my email is [frchtchr@hotmail.com]. Day of ride, my cell is 631-835-1454.
My cell 6319220632. We will do Ridge Rd. Randall Rd. Shoreham hills then head east to Wading River and beyond. We can stop for popcorn and drinks along the way. You're sure to enjoy the ride.
This will be a spring B+ ride. The goal for the ride will be about 17-17.5 mph average. We will do a similar route to Bill but we will go left at Mill Road and take Connecticut to Halsey Manor adding on a few miles to the ride. No rider will be dropped. If the pace is too fast for doing the whole ride you can return to the Sunshine Mall with Bill.
Group ride at an A pace. Stop at MRB (40 miles). This will be a preview of Ron's birthday ride. Please check the route as some members might want to extend the ride and add miles.
I am posting this ride in anticipation of a Sunday rainout. If we do ride Sunday this will be a shorter ride.
Come out and join me for a ride from Bellport to the Beach. We will make a stop at the 7-11 on William Floyd Pkwy. for a snack if you want to bring one to our break at the beach.
This is a C+ ride, which will average 12.1 - 12.8, depending on the wind and the riders. There will be cue sheets and no one gets left behind.

Note: Mileage increased from 31 to 38. I don't have jury duty tomorrow. We will ride to Briermere's and pass the American Bison farm, hopefully they will be out grazing. This is the ride formerly known by the misnomer "not really hilly ride". We leave Marshall's parking lot for Strongs Neck. Along the way we have flat, some rolling, some small hills AND there is one change: an additional “real” hill to avoid a particularly bad street we’ve used in the past. (That’s the “+”) We will wait up for anyone having hill issues -- not to worry. The ride will reward you with scenic views and a stop halfway at Dunkin' Donuts. There are a few places where those with the need for speed can go ahead. Weather has been changeable, so be sure to check back the evening before and the morning of the ride. Cancellation for weather will be posted by 8:00 morning of ride. Prior to ride, my email is [frchtchr@hotmail.com]. My cell morning of ride is 631-835-1454.

We change things up a little this week! We are going to drop the distance down and bring the pace up, to work on our speed for the Century.
Hopefully the pace won't get too hot, but you never know On the Highway to Hell - https://youtu.be/gEPmA3USJdI . But never fear, we won't play devil takes the hindmost! We'll work together as a team, so no one is left off the back.
And that pace will mean we can indulge in more goodies at Briermere Farms, which comes at around 22 miles!
There are some longer distance rides in the near future...same time, same channel.

You must be an SBRA member to attend these rides. It’s only $20…
My routes are very complicated. If you have a bike computer that is capable of turn by turn navigation, do your friends a favor and load the route. If you don’t, and get lost, you can only blame yourself.
These routes are designed to teach you how to conserve at the beginning, so you will be strong at the end. If you attack the early hills, then crack and get dropped later, no one will feel sorry for you.
I will lead these rides, climbing at around 3-3.5 Watts/Kg in general. On the steep stuff, I’ll keep it as low as possible with a 34/28. If you think this is an interval workout, you’re mistaken. If we all ride tempo, we shouldn’t have to regroup too often.
The group which I am in, is the main group. If you go up the road, you best know the route because your on your own.
This ride is 72 miles with 4800 feet of climbing. The route is "Wildwood to PJ Super Hills" and is in the SBRA Ride with GPS route library. There is also a link below. There are nature and convenience store breaks at about miles 17 and 55.
Need to postpone due to a scheduling conflict. This ride is an alternate to the longer and faster hill ride led by Michael Cole. The goal is to gain strength riding hills and to move up to the next level when and if you desire. Our speed is likely to be below a B+ pace but the effort will be that or a little higher. Here is the route that is was created for the Shea Hill rides:

Looks like rain on Sunday so I am posting a longer ride. Cruising speed of 21-22. Final average about 20. If a faster group shows up they can go ahead, don't ruin this ride!
This week things get interesting: The mileage will be in the 80s, so plan on eating and hydrating while we ride. We don't want anyone bonking on the ride!
AND, we start at 8:00 AM to get those miles in...
The route will hit Briermere for a short stop, before heading south to the Shinnecock Hills and Southampton, with a return along the south shore.
Since this distance will be unknown territory for some riders, let's keep the pace in control! Pace hijacking will be STRONGLY discouraged on this ride! The plan is to ride this like a team, working together!
B/B+, 70 mile, Century Training Ride. Depending on weather conditions, I may make this ride longer, since we are getting very close to the century. I will update the post if there are any changes, so please check back prior to the ride.
This will be a paceline ride.
If you are planning to do the century with this group of riders, please try to hop aboard one of the training rides. I think it is important to practice riding as a group when doing a ride this long.
This Saturday the weather is supposed to be perfect so let's get out somewhat earlier for a nice bike ride and a cholesterol free breakfast at the babylon docks. If by chance you do order eggs at the deli I assure you we will work off any of the cholesterol on the way back. But seriously it should be a nice ride we will average road speed of 15-17 so that we can come in at a average of 14.5-15. No one should or will be dropped as I have been successful in swaying one of our clubs tops sweeps over to this ride instead of a 70-plus ride.
Please park on the south side of the Oakdale Railroad Station closest to Montauk Highway.
This is a very scenic ride through Eastport, Remsenburg, Westhampton Beach, and a tad further East. The average pace will be between 14.3 and 15.0 mph. depending on the wind and other factors the ride could come in slightly higher or lower. Road speed will be between 14.5 & 16.5 mph. The wind direction will determine the route to be taken. We‘ll be using Dune road as part of the route going either westbound or eastbound depending on the wind direction. If the wind doesn’t cooperate we'll use an inland route, which is just as nice. There will be some spots (Dune Road) where one can stretch the legs if desired.
We’ll make a rest/food stop at Tully’s around mile 23 for some great clam chowder, eggs, coffee or whatever... After that, the second stop will be at the Beach bakery; you know what that’s about. From there we go another 7 miles arriving back at the start.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 7:15 am if necessary. My cell phone# is 631.484.3490; call or text anytime if you have questions about this ride or need directions to the start.
This ride is part of our “Special Ride Series” (SRS) and is designed to better assist new people who wish to ride with SBRA. This particular event is being run as a 1-Day Session by me, with the assistance of John Bambach, for the “More experienced rider, but new to SBRA and group riding.” This ride will emphasize rider safety, SBRA club rules, basic bike mechanics and a number of things which are very important when riding in a group. If you are either new to group riding or have not been on an SBRA group ride, this is a training event you should take advantage of. Please make sure you have a working bike, a helmet (required on all club rides), a spare tube (in case you get a flat), and water or a sports drink that fits in a bike cage and will not fall out.
After the discussion portion of the session, we will take a ride, depending on the ability of the riders in attendance. It may be 10-15 miles at a C pace, or 20-25 miles at a C+/B- (or faster) pace, or one of each distance & pace.
FYI - Today this is being offered on a Saturday, but within a few weeks it will also be offered on a Sunday.
If you have any questions, please contact me at home at (631) 471-2129.
Depending on wind, tide, position of moon and ride leaders disposition we will ride approx. 17-20 miles at an 11-11.5 average speed. As always newbies always welcome and NOBODY gets left behind. So get off your butt, and lets ride for some exercise. Cancellation for any reason will be posted by 9:00AM. Snacks at the rides end?
Neil & Leslie at Campus bike, NYBC & Cathy, join forces to host a safety informative ride. We obey ALL traffic laws, (YES including stopping at stop signs) and all SBRA rules. Not crazy hills but some. Wait ups. Other ride leaders please fell free to post different paces. Light refreshments served ( as they last & contributions welcome) after the ride. Century Building, not a race! Deli stop at the 31-mile mark and another quick regroup at Exxon Station. If you did this ride with me a few weeks ago I have updated the route. If you did not do the ride last time we kept it civil for the first 52 miles. After the Exxon stop, we brought the pace up and finished at 20 mph. I figure we will do the same on Sunday.
Please check this posting again tomorrow morning. Starting location and distance may change based on input from other riders on Sat morning. Tx!
Update 5/27/18: East Islip to Northport with rest stop/food stop at Copenhagen Bakery by Northport Harbor (around mile 20). Option to extend ride to Eatons Neck beach if all riders agree (additional 10 miles). I'm posting this as a "B" ride but the avg might come in closer to "B-" due to some hills along the north shore. No one gets dropped - wait-ups as needed.
Check posting again before leaving house. Any further updates will be posted by 7am Monday.
If anyone has any questions, please call (347-922-3824).

This is a B/B+, modified paceline ride. Once again, we will be heading out to the Ponquogue Bridge with a stop at, you guessed it, the Beach Bakery. After the century, I will be using new routes to keep it interesting. This route allows me to modify the mileage depending on weather and the spirit of the group.
During the break, I would like to discuss the riding plan for the century with those of you who are planning to ride.
Questions about the Century or this ride call or text : 631 804-0751.
