Please join us to check out the newly opened extension of the The Jones Beach Bike Path (Ellen Farrant Memorial Bikeway). We'll park along South Cedar Street, where there's an entrance to Cedar Creek Park. This bikeway parallels the Wantagh Parkway from Cedar Creek Park to Tobay Beach. This ride will be approximately 24 miles (round trip). Bring a healthy snack if you wish...but be advised there will be at least two riders (who shall remain nameless), that already have plans for stopping for a hot dog (or two) at one of the refreshment stands!
If you're not doing BBB, this will be a nice bike ride to get some sunshine and have some fun at the beach!
I'm including a link to check out the park information (just remember that the directions to the park listed on the website will bring you to the main entrance and you will be charged the parking fee).
Ride out to Rocky Point and back to Stony Brook avoiding the hills of the North Shore. Relatively flat ride other than the hill going up to the railroad station on 25A in Stony Brook. Sheep Pasture Road is part of the ride also, but everyone seems to love riding that.
I thought I'd post a **Mellow*** recovery ride for the day after Bike-Boat-Bike. We'll do an easy spin into the Pine Barrens and take it easy on the legs. Option for a few additional miles.
Thanks for the nice posting by Pat B. to all the ride leaders...
I tend to be long winded so click "read more" on the bottom for the entire post. - How about coffee and a little exercise for the BBB volunteers who couldn't ride Sunday?
All AM Coffee rides whether a “B” or “B-“ride will work like this. All rides will be around 15 miles unless indicated differently in the description; check the average pace. I have put together several routes, choosing one in the morning which hopefully will put the wind at our backs during the return trip.
We will stop for coffee and a bathroom about half way, or closer to the end of the ride. Coffee locations will be a deli, 7-11, Mickey D’s, Wendy’s, or a bagel shop. The average pace for the ride will be between 14.8 and 15.3 mph. The road speed will be slightly higher to produce the average. No one will be dropped.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00 M if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions

The ride is extended to 32 miles adding the one mile Old Town Road ascent.
With sunset at 8:19pm bright colored clothing and bicycle lighting, front and back, are highly recommended.
Narrow roads require single file riding along most of the route. The ride allows a few locations to break-away from the group, as instructed by the ride leader, otherwise the group will stay together.
Ride through East Islip, Islip and Bay Shore as far west as Brentwood Road. If time permits we may stop for a short break at Islip Beach on the way back. Cancellation for any reason will be posted no later than 3:30PM.

A NO PRESSURE ride to Poquott, Strongs Neck, Old Field and West Meadow. We wait for everyone on all hills. No one will get dropped or feel pressure to keep hammering on those pedals. The first eight miles are all practically downhill. We have also found a very easy route out of West Meadow and back to Marshalls without too much effort or climbing.
No real place to get food on this route. Water can be refilled at West Meadow and we can make an emergency bathroom stop at the Seaport Deli in Setauket if you feel the need.
I thought I would change it up a bit for this Wednesday’s ride and go to Middle Island. The average pace for the ride will be between 14.5 and 15.0 mph depending on the wind direction and other factors. There are a few places along the route where one can stretch the legs if needed.

The road speed will be slightly higher to produce the average.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 8:00 AM if necessary. My cell number is 631-484-3490, call anytime if you have questions, or need direction to the start.

Parking note: This is the Home Goods in Port Jefferson Station on 347...NOT Stony Brook. Please park towards the center of the lot, near the big shopping center sign with all the store names on it so that we aren't in the midst of store traffic.

Heroes and Villains...
So who'll be the heroes and ride with the ride leader and who will be the villains who try to hijack the ride?

To add mileage we can do an optional loop at the beginning of the ride through the Oakdale area around Dowling College. Cancellation for any reason will be posted no later than 7:30AM on Saturday.

It's time to get back on the bike for a FLAT 10 mile slow paced ride. BEGINNERS, anybody recovering from incidents or people that want to go at a slower pace welcome. Pace (about 10mph) and distance depend on the slowest person in the group. ABSOLUTELY NO ONE LEFT BEHIND!!! Check website after 1PM for any cancellation. Don't forget your helmet.
Since Karen has to work thought I would post an afternoon ride for those in the same boat or like to sleep in a little on the weekend without sacrificing a ride opportunity. Will make a short stop at the park but I'm not sure the restrooms will still be open. Then return via Woodside Ave.
Any cancellations will be posted by 3:00 PM.

Leave the Manorville King Kullen for another ride with one of the Early Birds groups which includes John, Chris and other famous riders. Short stop near mid point and a finish that includes a visit to Area 51.
We'll try to keep the group together, but it will be an unstructured paceline ride with an average speed in the 19 MPH range.
The Green Door Ride! We will try to get there early enough so we can have breakfast before the crowds. The route will take us to Dune Road and we will do the Ponquogue Bridge going or coming back depending on the wind that day.
The ride will be a higher B pace but we will all stay together as a group. Please check for any changes the night before and the morning of the ride.
This ride will hopefully give you a taste of riding a bike path ... you'll understand why I love riding on the 42 mile W&OD in VA ... unfortunately we'll only do the 6+ miles on the path but there are "NO CAR BACKs!!" ... there are some road crossings and even a few small hills. The rest of the miles will be done in Stonybrook and Mt. Sinai/ Miller Place. Someday we'll be able to ride to Wading River with < 1 mile on the road. Hope we don't have to wait too long. This ride will be a moderate to strong B if you stay with the Ride Leader.
Since we had an enjoyable ride on Jones Beach bike path to Tobay Beach last weekend...we decided to do it again! We'll be riding to Tobay Beach (to use restrooms) then ride back to Jones Beach for an extended break. Please plan to stay on Jones Beach for approximately two (2) hours. This will give everyone time to relax and enjoy the beach before re-grouping and heading back to Cedar Creek Park. I realize this is a busy time of year, but since we're already at the beach...let's enjoy! This ride is being posted for everyone's enjoyment and to have fun without worrying about time constraints. In the event you can't stay on the beach, you'll have the option of returning on your own since the bike path is a direct safe route. In which case, please let me or the sweep know your intention the day of the ride. I hope you chose to relax and enjoy kicking back on the beach, taking a walk, enjoying a bite to eat (concession stands are open) or finding some shade to enjoy the ocean breeze!
If you're staying on the beach, please be sure to bring a bike lock since we're not permitted to ride our bikes on the boardwalk. When packing your items, please remember that we'll be riding to Tobay Beach first, so you might want to consider carrying a light backpack to bring a towel (or sheet), sunscreen, sandals and bug spray.
This will be an enjoyable, relaxing ride...no one will be dropped.
Parking:
I plan on parking along South Cedar Street, since there's an entrance to Cedar Creek Park. Just in case you aren't able to get a parking space on South Cedar Street and park in the main parking lot (parking fee is $10 per car), please call/text me at 631-793-8298 so that we can designate a meeting place before the ride begins.

Cheez Whiz is one of a number of "processed cheese foods", a category including some types of individually wrapped cheese slices. These products contain regular cheese that has been reprocessed along with additional ingredients such as emulsifiers and stabilizing agents, such as xanthan gum or carrageenan. These products derive their tanginess and flavor from additional ingredients such as citric acid and flavoring compounds. Annatto is used for coloring. Yummy!!!

Narrow roads require single file riding along most of the route. The ride allows a few locations to break-away from the group, as instructed by the ride leader, otherwise the group will stay together.
