BMX practice rides start at 6 PM ... here's the site: http://www.shorehambmx.org/ for more information. I'm planning to bring my Mtn Bike in the car and maybe take a lap or two after our road ride. The regular BMX folks pay $6 for the practice session ... I'm hoping that the people who run the place give us a lap or two for free to gain our interest. If ALL (and it must be 'ALL') the SBRA riders show up with Mtn Bikes we will vote and maybe take a short Mtn Bike ride in Shoreham North instead of a road ride.
**** Suggestion: Since we're riding at 5 and watching the BMX until 8 ... you might want to bring some dinner to eat while watching the BMX riders. ****
Since this ride starts relatively late in the day ... if you have a headlight bring it along and rear flashes are also a good idea.
A lot depends on the weather ,,, so be sure to check back to this posting after 3 PM on Thursday. Call my cell if necessary ....
I"ll be at the ride start, ready to ride. Looks like the rain will hold off until the evening.

You DO NOT have to be doing the century to go on any of these rides. Each week the ride will increase by 5 miles or so. By the time all training rides are completed I’m sure we will be able to do an easy 100 on a flat course, in Maryland, at a B pace. We may take turns at the front, this way you can enjoy the wind in your face and be the first to smell the roses or the road kill.
For this Seagull training ride the route will be almost the same as the “Chowder/Dessert” ride with a few extra miles added. It’s a scenic ride through Eastport, Remsenburg, Westhampton Beach, and points east. The wind direction will determine the route to be taken. If we have a West wind we will use Dune Road (wind at our back) as part of the route; great for those leg stretches. If the wind doesn’t cooperate we will use an inland route which is just as nice.
The average pace for the ride will be between 14.5 to 15.0 mph, depending on the roads, wind direction, and the group. The road speed will be between 15 and 16.5 mph. We’ll make a rest/food stop at Tully’s around mile 22 for some great clam chowder or fishy stuff. If Tully’s is closed we can go to the Market. Peddle another 13 miles to the Beach Bakery for some sweet goodies or a bagel and then go back to the start.

We'll cover paceline etiquette, how to ride smoothly in a group, and how to keep from getting dropped by a group. We can also cover cornering and other factors that can make you a faster rider.

I know we did 51 miles last week due to the flooding on Dune road so, this week we’ll do 50 miles with some rollers here and there. I probably can’t work the wind as well as last week but there will be enough turns to give you a change of wind direction. The average will come in around 15 mph with road speeds between 15 & 17 mph. Faster riders will have their spots as well. The rest of the group will hang with me and the sweep. You are not obligated to do this; you can hang back with me and do a nice steady pace. No one gets left behind.
The plan for the upcoming weeks will be around 55, 60, 65, 70, and 65. This schedule will enable you do the 100 with no problems. If you personally feel you need to ride more than 70 miles that can be arranged also.
We will go to Manorville with one food stop at McDonalds or the bagel place and another pee stop along the way. I really suggest you bring 2 bottles filled with G2, Gatorade, Powerade or something with electrolytes in it.
Please check the ride calendar for any weather, or last minute cancellations which will be posted no later than 7:30AM if necessary. My cell number is 631.484.3490; call anytime if you have questions about this ride or need directions to the start.
